  • This week we’re extremely excited to welcome Cleveland Cavaliers big man Jarrett Allen for his first appearance on The Old Man and The Three! JJ and Tommy open up the episode by taking a look at the recent play of the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, and other Eastern Conference contenders to find out how likely each could make it out of the east. Then, Jarrett joins to discuss whether or not he thinks he should’ve been an NBA All-Star this season and his improvements and developments on the Cavs and how it compares to his play from when he was on the Brooklyn Nets. He also gets into what it was like playing with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on the Nets. Jarrett also explains how the Cavs had an amazing record when Darius Garland and Evan Mobley with both injured. Then, he talks about Donovan Mitchell’s incredible (maybe MVP-like?) season, the expectations the Cavs have for this year’s playoffs, and what he learned from last year’s series against the New York Knicks. He also shares amazing insight on how his role as a big has changed over the last few seasons as the league changes, and his mindset about blocking dunks. Lastly, they close it out with a draft of their favorite baked goods.

From a Portuguese fan, we have so much more sweet pastries, even specific to different regions of Portugal, than pastéis de nata but that will forever be a number 1 for me regardless. I could live off of these things. Bummed I didn't cross paths with you when you were in Portugal, would love to say "Hi", congratulate you on your basketball player retirement success in the media and beat you in a free throw shooting contest in the nearest court. 😉 One of my favorite players to watch growing up. Before Kyrie came to the Nets they were a fun team to watch. Jarrett Allen played wonderfully. You could see his development as you watched him play, and then they trade him away for the Beard. You can understand why they went for the superstars to go for the ring, but it turned out to be a mistake, and one of the biggest mistakes was trading the Fro.

I was very surprised at the beginning of the season when the Bucks seemed to be everyone's favorite in the East. They basically added Dame and lost Jrue. As much as I love Dame, I just don't think that's a tremendous upgrade, not because Dame _isn't_ great, but because Jrue _is._ It's obviously a big upgrade on offense, but it's also obviously a big downgrade on defense.
The Giannis-era Bucks have had fantastic defense, particularly interior defense. With Jrue they also had maybe the best perimeter defender in the world, which is how they won a title. The offense was a little suspect because they lacked creation and penetration outside of Giannis, and with Dame they get better shooting, penetration, and creation, but no longer have good perimeter defense while still playing 100% drop coverage. So it's different than their title team; it's hard to say whether it's better or worse, but it's different.
I feel like some people think a team can just lose Jrue Holiday without losing defensive equity, and that's just not true _(not Jrue?)._ I thought the Celtics might really struggle on defense this year when they lost Marcus Smart _and_ Grant Williams _and_ Robert Williams, but they added Jrue and Porzingis, and are somehow significantly better. I don't think people should lose sight of the fact that the Celtics basically replaced DPOY Smart and defensive utility guy extraordinaire Williams and one of the best, most switchable centers in Williams with Jrue Holiday and got _better_ on defense _(Porzingis is perfectly fine on defense but he's no Time Lord; they're obviously leveraging Derrick White and Al Horford a lot as well)._ Jrue's offensive stats are fine but not amazing so I think people overlook just how valuable he is.

We love the Jarrett Allen. More dunks buddy. Also let's get Evan injected with some of the scarier PEDs. With darts from afar if he's not cooperative
a few posts back I said DG is #2 herky jerky man, which is insane; he's behind both Luka and SGA at least...though he needs to study some steve nash tape, just run on through bud...getting his lunch eaten in the paint every time.
Celtics game happened since this, what a feather in Sir CC's big hat. Then almost came back against the hawks, if not for uh 0 of the 4Q shots going in. I feel good going into the playoffs if everyone's healthy
