wAveURonKiLLcAm two more people agree with him though....
Tbh it’s not the movies fault. They have 30 major characters which is impossible to handle and the plot is really rich
The fact that this movie was created is unexpected, it being good is just a great feat

@@Luchiop Cause he´s still a 5 million dollar man, which he was 15 years ago. He handled his career in such a shitty, indifferent way that everytme he delivers a brilliant performance that wins him accolades and the audience love,he doesnt do any work the next two years more or less (Traffic,21 grams,Sicario are good examples) and people forget he exists, like he´s trolling us. He is not A list or B list,he is an icon for sure. He pissed away his best years, between 2003 and 2007 all he did was a great but small turn in Sin city. People will forget you then,no matter how good you are. No explanation for this which i wouldve liked to hear. He was hot shit.
Many actors are billed so you should be more specific,Eric Roberts and Michael Madsen are also billed in their world. Those who know about him know he is one of the greats, through faults of his own way too few knew who he is. He is one of the 20 best living actors imo but his paycheck and fame does not support that one bit. '
      '
He made more films in 96-97 than between 2004 and 2011 for gods sake, the guy got lazy, banging hot chicks and boozing. I would do the same but still...he is underrated. Up to him to make the leap to overrated.

The Sicario duology is SO slept on. That scene with Angel, the man who was hearing impaired, really touched me. Just that small detail gave Alejandro's character so much more depth to learn that his daughter was also deaf. Alejandro's character is so intriguing because he walks the line between monster and avenging angel. Benicio Del Toro was perfectly cast in this role as was Josh Brolin. And that ending, wow.

Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River are all companion pieces and have simple titles so it would've been nice to keep the actual sequel of Sicario in that same vein. Also Sicario 2 Day of the Soldado is a bad title in general.

Late response, but my take on the scene is he's NOT going to kill the kid, but use him (blackmail; threaten his family) to get deeper into the cartels? It's the ultimate revenge and why that scene works so well: Kid thought he killed Alejandro, but three years later, Alejandro shows up at his "office" and wants to "discuss" being a Sicario / Soldato. Killing the kid would be too "black and white" for the Sicario movies, or Alejandro as a character, IMO.

Which is exactly why I like Chris. You can tell Chris is really passionate about movies and what he does. He actually lives and breathes movies. Jeremy just comes off (and based off of his reviews) as a guy to just enjoys popcorn flicks and doesn’t really go much deeper than that. He’s more there for the casual audience whereas Chris generally sees a movie as more than that but as an art form.

Good review Chris. So I thought Sicario 2 was gonna be just a by the books action movie sequel following the partnership of Alejandro & Graver characters...totally surprised (in a good way) what this movie did and what this story has turned into. Sheridan's script gets a little convoluted, but the constant dread, and the brutal intensity of this world sucked me in again just like the first film.
I'm ready for the third "Sicario 3:Ronin" already!

  • @UnbelievabIeMontages
    @UnbelievabIeMontages 6 лет назад +42

i disagree Chris, I think you missed the point of the first Sicario. yeah there was a story of Emily Blunt's experience, but you forgot the other stories with Silvio and Alejandro. Three stories all colliding each other at the end presenting their final destinations. There's also great visual commentary on how broken the war on drugs is. A cycle of violence that starts over and over.

Robert M. Dunn The ending of the movie, when the kids were playing a soccer game that was interrupted shortly by distant gunfire, showed how despite all the CIA's efforts to track down and kill Alacorn, in the end it amounted to no significant difference. What good did prohibition do other create an environment in which organizations like the mafia could fester and grow? We are repeating the mistakes of the past.

That gray area is explored a lot in the design choices, something I picked up on immediately. Almost every character is filmed in shadow with light only showing parts of their face, or shadows hiding all but their outlines. Many of the characters are dressed in black and white or all-gray outfits. The cinematography and use of video surveillance, news footage, etc. and having many characters looking through doors and windows at other people/situations all plays towards one thing: perception. People are making tough choices full of moral dilemmas, and we only see parts of that whole picture. Really smart filmmaking imo.

When I saw this film my perspective on the characters and the whole “good guy bad guy” concept was completely warped from what the writer had in mind due to the audience I was with. All of the immoral actions taken by the main characters were not received by the audience as necessarily bad things, but taken more as just making them look like a badass and glorifying their immorality and flaws in how they choose to achieve their goals. So while that may not have been the writer and directors intentions, the basic viewer as far as I could see will misinterpret the films intentions as a whole

I’m disappointed in the review. While you’re right about the movies point, the character development - especially with one of the teenagers - was nil. It’s a well made movie, but I miss the original’s organic quality. It unfolded beautifully. This one bounces from one scene piece to another to simply advance the plot. I didn’t think it was any more than a B.

      Disliked the movie.
Benicio is great. Brolin is great.
      The screen play is weak.
I’d unsubbed from stuckman a while ago because of his whiney tone in reviews but he seems to be the only critic with an interesting perspective on this film.
      It’s a C in my book.

These are two of my favorite movies. Edward Norton in The Bourne Legacy actually describes Brolin and Del Toro’s characters perfectly. They’re the Sin Eaters.

When you say "complex" i think you meant the themes not the plot. It's plot is actually much more simplified than the first one and less interesting, in my opinion.

Sheridan always opts for simple plots in order to give emphasis to the characters, he’s pretty open about it too. Sicario as a plot isn’t really that remarkable, it would be really easy to be a by the numbers typical drug movie, it had really interesting themes and characters that were all elevated by incredible direction, cinematography, soundtrack and acting.

I've been putting off this film for some time, but i just watched Sicario 1 and Soldado back to back. Gotta say: I need a 3rd one.

The movie starts off great but then feels like they didn't know what to do with the story and just basically said "fuck it" and it shows in the end. This movie could've been so much better. Nowhere near as good as the first one.

i felt nearly the same way on every aspect you described about this movie. i definitely felt a became a much more complex story from the original. Not to say the original isn't, but the way this story was crafted allows it to become more not only because of the reality that it deals with, but with the fiction it creates to become it's own unique story through it's use of multiple and parallel narratives. The ending was shocking and I also felt it a direct and subtle homage to even the Godfather. It's a very well made movie that isn't getting the reception it deserves and you are right; it has to do with people's personal politics. Critics made it clear with their review titles and such.

Also Shout out to the soundtrack. Trying to recreate the same sound of the original while sounding unique was done really well considering the original composer died. So really well done there.
