An eleven-year-old orphan, Carl, is adopted into a loving family. The new father, Zeb, bonds easily with the boy. But Zeb’s wife, Annika, sees a different side to Carl. Zeb is surprised by his wife’s resistance to their new son and isn’t sure if it’s Annika’s or Carl’s dark side that is being revealed.

The ending was very fake. I worked in a psychiatric hospital for 14 years. That mentally disturbed boy would’ve stopped or calmed down that easily. He would’ve tried with all his strength and might, fueled by his hatred, to kill his adopted Mother. I’ve seen children his age in fits of rage, have the strength of a grown man. Also, I’m a very patient and loving person, but I would never have taken a child back into my home that had threatened to kill those 2 girls if they told on him. That is endangering your family’s lives and future. Just my opinion.
My heart goes out to anyone suffering with mental illness issues. I also had to deal with mental illness in my family. The power of prayer helps a great deal. Love & Peace to everyone out there❣️🤗🙏
The woman who suggested this boy should tell them about him being extra difficult, that was not fair to other children...boy is clearly very messed up, manipulative and that's breaking family
I've met a lot of people who've been through hard times in their lives, but most of them didn't end up like this kid. This kid is a psychopath and psychopath doesn't get from hard experiences, it's an inborn lack of a sense of empathy, I think a psychopath cannot be fixed unless he wants to be fixed. But still, they are incapable of emphatizing others but rather they use their mind to do the right thing. This is the reason why you see people never cry at the death of loved ones, they just cannot feel the sadness, and it's not their fault, they were just born that way.

This movie tried to leave you with the warm and fuzzies. The next scene would have been her releasing him and he grabs the knife and attacks her. Carl was profoundly disturbed and a manipulative sociopath with most likely psycotic tendencies. Only a moron would go to bed at night with an unlocked bedroom door. This boy will never live a normal life and anyone around him is in danger.
That's what makes the ending sad. Even if he wanted to change, who's going to ever believe him? All the evil things he did before will haunt and scar him for the rest of his life and likely spend time in an institution for troubled children.
Very good movie. Kept my attention.

It's a really hard being a parent period. Even biological parents gives up on their own kids because it is very hard at times. But, yes it is sad that that boy was taken in without really finding out who he is, before making that huge decision.😢

Look up the movie "Child of Rage." Also, there are a couple of documentaries on the life of Beth Thomas. Her mom died when she was a baby, so the dad neglected her and her brother, except for when he had sex with her--as a baby and she remembered! No love at all. Just anger. There is a documentary about RAD and how they put Beth in a treatment center teaching what they had in this movie--who's the boss?😊

This film is proof that you cannot save every child. Also it sends out a message that everyone isn't meant to be a parent and have kids even if you're a Christian ✝️ it's beyond what you can do.

to look into Carls past and what's going on in his head, rather than to just dump him on a family, not knowing what angle to effectively approach him with or whether he needs meds or traumatized by his past. And Zeb's hands is a bit feely to be a minister , it does'nt look good. ( although this is just a movie ).

11': That woman has no boundaries. My hypothesis would be that this boy was a victim of mother on son incest (it IS a real thing. My mother was a perpetrator, she raped children of both genders, starting when she was 9 or even younger, and she was eventually fired from her job as a secondary school teacher for performing 'virginity tests' on 11-13 young girls).
13': It gets even worse. She clearly disliked the child from the start and is trying to pick up a fight with him. As she is older, and more experienced, she succeeds... I don't know how she ever managed to get authorised as foster parent, she can manage with kids who came from 'normal' households but not with kids who were abused.
16': Replying 'I don't know' when asked what one wants is TYPICAL of children who were raised in abusive families. That woman is completely incompetent. I don't think I am going to watch this movie until the end, it is too triggering.

Definitely more likely Karl’s diagnosis would be conduct disorder, and if he were 18, antisocial personality disorder, not reactive attachment disorder as the psychologist said in the movie
Screen title: The Boarder, "Inspired By True Stories"--Stories, plural? Now there's a depressing thought! Well produced and acted with an inconclusive conclusion, leaving the intention of this film vague. All I really got out of it was depression.

I appreciated that this was a Christian family, but I was very shocked and did not appreciate when the Christian mother yelled out Jesus’s name in vain when she was frustrated at one point in the movie. That was very offensive and not necessary at all.

where did this movie come from... this was one of the most powerful, intense, movies ive ever seen in my life...BAFFLING... came out of nowhere......the one flaw i do have to agree with yall about is... you guys are right about the last scene trying to leave you warm and fuzzy and joyous...
however.. he is simply the type that an hour later would killl the new dog... he threw pooop around the room, he tried to molest his sister, he pushed his mom in front of a car, he attempted to murder an innocent girl with a knife, he killed the family dog.... enough was enough... by the mom continuously trying, she was jeapordizing the whole family's safety. Still very entertaining and kept my attention way more than a standard noname youtube movie would...
Could have had a better ending.
Whether or not the ending was unrealistic, it still proves what happens to infants when they become victims of the worst kind of abuse are sexual assault, but doesn't mean they should be let out into society too soon unless they get help much earlier before they end up like this kid. Even if the kid broke through, I have a feeling he'll be spending time at an institution for troubled children for more than a year.
