Pit Boss Woes! Trouble with Firmware update. 1600 Elite PSE plus other issues

  • I have definitely had my share of issues with this grill. I'm not giving up just yet. If you have one of these newer 1600 Elite PSE grills, follow along. Also, please feel free to share any of your experiences. So far, they are sending me a new lid, a new fire box, and now a new controller.
    Let me know if you have successfully upgraded your firmware on one of these.
    Fingers crossed the new controller fixes the issue with the grill. I can wait on the app.

    Same exact thing has happened to me except for the burn put issue my controller finally completed the firmware update with a newly sent controller and now it won’t even power on!

    I’m on my Second Pro Series Elite and I’m having the same exact experience as you…TWICE! I returned my other PSE1600 exchanged it for the exact same one 8 months later just built it this morning just did my burn off and it’s the same BS all over again.

    I have a new pitboss and a weber smart connect hub to monitor. The grill also has a difficult time keeping the temp even. It fluctuates between 170 to 350 when the temp is set to 200. They sent me a new control board but we will see if its fixed. The factory P setting on the replacement was set to 0 so it was cramming pellets like i never seen before.
    I would be paitient while doing the firmware update. These have slow processors that take a long time to update. Maybe call tech support and have them walk you through the update so you can blame them.

    April 2024 and the app is not working. Customer support says they are waiting for an app update. I see this seems to be a reoccurring problem with Pitboss.

      I've been reading up on this issue and a few people posted that same response over a month ago. Told to wait for the app update. How long do we have to wait to use our $1k+ grill? This is a scam for sure!

    I'm having this exact same issue. When I first got the grill it worked fine. Then after one use the control board would power up with the flame and as soon as it showed the degrees and stuff it would shut off and.go black. The sent me a new board. I just installed it, now I'm having the exact problems you mentioned. On top of that I notice my original board would say "heating to" or "smoking to" next to the degrees. Now with the new one it only says "heating to" even if it's in smoke mode. Does your do that or will it say "smoking to" when you put it in smoke mode

      I really don't remember what it said. I don't have this grill anymore.

      @cavyboy99 NO, not really, I finally got all the things worked out. I have been a big fan of the Pitts and Spitts for over 6 years. I have had 3 of them. The last one was just too big and heavy. I wanted to try the Pit Boss, but in the end I just wanted to get another Pitts and Spitts, but a smaller one with big wheels.

    Sounds like a controller issue - Its been 3 weeks now and I was wondering if swapping out the control board has solved the problem?

      Yes, the controller did fix the issue. Once installing the new controller (came with version 40) it updated without issue to version 42.

    Question I was having smilier problems with one I just purchased last week. I have v32 on mine and it got to about 38% and failed the update. It tried a couple more times also failed. I'm using 2.4ghz and my router is about 8ft from the grill. I've tried many thing with CS with no luck. They are sending me a new controller should be here this coming week. Any suggestions what to do after installing new controller? They said they are upto v64 now.

      No, not really, my new controller worked. It did have to update, but Ididn'thaveanyissues. The thing I remember is, I really didn't know it was updating until it shut off and back on.

      I got my new controller yesterday and got it installed and it updated to v62 and worked just great! Glad I ran across this video thanks for posting it....@@Bobsbbq

    So glad i didnt buy this i had the the 850 an wanted a upgrade looked at this and the lockhart...ended up goin with a traeger timberline xl

    your bottom (under the burn pit) looks like mine, ashe everywhere, guess I need a replacement. I am thinking of just returning, this thing has been a nightmare over the last 2 weeks, they are sending me a new board too, as mine wont connect to wifi. It connected then some reason last saturday decided to disconnect and wont reconnect. I did a lot of troubleshooting on my own, then called them and they were so brain dead trying to say its and isp issue, which has nothing to do with wifi. it wont connect to the internet untill it connects to wifi. Anywho Ill look at your other videos too.

      That's crazy, I just started seeing a couple of times that my wifi wasn't connected. It used to always connect. I will keep an eye on it though. Thanks for your comment 👍

      @@Bobsbbq yeah I'm really not too happy with pit boss. I live the size of it but the problems are crazy at least with these 1600 elites. I also got a lot of ashe coming out of mine at the bottom. The lid access like it has a huge gap in the middle top, tons of smoke and heat cones out that, like 10x the amount that comes through the sliding adjuster on the back, no matter the position it's in. Last week I had to put 3 blankets on it too keep temp near 200 (set at 225) when it was 48 for the low with no wind

      I just bought the 1150 ps3 and I also have problems and ask and embers coming out from the ash dump underneath. The lady on the phone sounded clueless. Also on mine they did not give us the vst smoke setting only on the 1600's which I'm upset about as I only am getting smoke at 180 and that's it. Anything hight and zero smoke output. That lady pretty much said oh well thays how it works. This is my second pitboss and I had an 1100 pro which was better then this new stuff. I'm disappointed in pitboss and their customer service 😒

      @@reddemonspeed31 I'm returning my smoker tomorrow. This weekend has a 16 pound brisket go to waste. If get the smoker, with my extra meat probes I got (not the ones it came with) reading 225, then 30 minutes later it would start rubbing off all the way to 400 only way to get out to stop was turning it off waiting 15 minutes then turning back on only to have it do it again 30 minutes later.
      I'll not ever buy another pit boss either.

    The P setting should be P4 default on my unit anyway.
