Love the pajamas! Steph has smile markers not wrinkles. It is fun to go on a trail and make it usable again when others just get scared. Awesome to see you not in a paved parking lot. Stay safe!!
If you keep heading west you will arrive in Nagano very soon and you will find hundreds of super good hot springs there :) (just 1~2 hours from Kofu). And I'm sure you can find more defenders there~

Great video again you two , all ways. Look foreword to your videos . Cheers and keep safe . From Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
Hello guys, beautiful track and vlog,. your thumbnails are amazing. I feel the winch is the most important recovery tool. Enjoy your fantastic adventures around the world . Happy trails!!! :-))
I really like your trip, and I keep following it until a new episode, and here get further experience abroad even though I don't travel far, excited and keep going throughout the countries ...
Nice video ;) But two things - synthetic rope does not gather kinetic energy so it won’t hurt you in case it breaks ;) And attach the rope to both ends of tree protector so you don’t divide it (tree protector) strength by half ;) Have a safe trip!
That's true but it's not the rope I'm worried about it's the metal hook and shackle. I worked offshore for most of my life and I've seen so many close calls from flying shrapnel. We regularly move heavy gear around in excess of 100 tons. When a shackle / hook breaks it's a scary thing to see. Also choking a sling does indeed reduce the working load but in slinging and rigging courses they teach as a rule of thumb to reduce safe working load of a sling by 25% for each choke. Definitely not enough to worry about in a static pull situation like this using a sling with such a high working load.
Yes!, this is a very important point: the tree protector or extension shouldn't be looped onto itself like you did. You lose a lot of strength (the tree protector can weaken itself when looped like this), making the winch pull more dangerous, and it can also damage the tree. Always attach the hook to both ends of the tree protector or extension. Great video though. I just found your channel and you both have a really great presence that is fun to watch.
Excellent adventure, love it!!! So now, this is the reason your overall has a double zip : you just zip it over your clothing - easer than sneaking in, and since you have 2 legs, you have 2 zips! Thanks for sharing that with us :-)
@@leighdearle5965 😁 I've just put a new video up with a talking bit will you have a look and let me know what you think? I think I'm slowly starting to get a little better, thanks Andy
Ha ha thanks mate 😜 I hope to redesign eventually and make some nice fold down aluminium steps. Not sure if Steph will let the plastic ones go though... She's sentimentality attached to them 🤣
That was good stuff 👍👍👍👍 For me the trip in is most times the best bit 👍 Love the way you both work together 🤗🤗🤗 Thanks for sharing. Keep going don't stop. Take care and stay safe. From 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
We often use the drone to scout trails and look for rock climbing areas. It wasn't so tough or dangerous on this trail that we felt the need to fly the drone 😉
Guys love your videos. Wish everyone can do something like you guys do. Have a question or help I want to ship my vehicle from Australia to Pakistan for overlanding what’s the best advise you can give in terms of transportation and shipping information would be ideal thanks
The front and rear diffs were locked but it's like most 4x4s unless you have actual after market lockers then you'll still spin at the tyre of least resistance. Four Wheel drives are in reality only getting power to 1 tyre at the front and one at the back when the diffs are locked. Maybe one day I'll invest in real lockers...
They're ok I guess, still wearing faster than expected and they are very cracked and deteriorating fast. I will go straight back to Cooper STT pro when these are finished 😉
Again a nice video! Two thoughts of mine: the tree strap - I wouldn't looped it through, I'd wrap it around, connect the two ends with a shakel, preferably a soft shackle and then connect the winch cable! The bag over the cable is a very good idea (wrap it more than once around would make sure it stays on the cable! Be careful with driving through branches with an open window, a nasty scratch o your pretty face would be the smaller problem! It could take an eye! Bon chance
Thanks for the advice. I worked offshore on oil rigs most of my working career. In all slinging and rigging courses it's taught that by choking a sling you reduce the safe working load by approximately 25% in a straight pull situation. We regularly moved and lifted loads in excess of 100 tons, I've seen some big stuff go wrong and a lot of very close calls. Choking this high work load sling in a static pull situation like this has a very small risk. The safe working load of the sling after being choked still far exceeds any load it would actually see. By choking the sling it stays where I want it to be 😉 Most important is to keep clear of line of fire just in case and we both were.
@@leighdearle5965 ok, I see your point and most likely it's one of those things - more than one road lead to Rome. I've been in the military for 20 years trained in crazy things and been off roading and overlanding for most of my life - my way has been pounded into me! Worst I have ever seen was a broken shekel going through a windshield and taking out the driver's lowers face - VERY drastic! Be careful, be safe
100% with Georg on this. Retired military and an overlander, I'd never chock my tree protector in the manner that you did. You have to think, the more force on the rope will tighten the chock, in some cases making it difficult to release and on some tree's it will damage the bark. Using a D shackle between the two loops is far more effective and less damaging. Other than that, I loved this weeks episode. Keep them coming guys and keep safe.
May I know what are the processes to send your vehicle to Japan and would be nice if include the costs :) thank you. Also, does it require permit to sleep in public?
We don't have full lockers only the standard diff lock. Maybe I hadn't locked it at that stage. Even with it locked we were still spinning on 2 tyres, one front one back. Maybe one day I'll invest in air lockers...

Where did you get the tray that is under Grizzly?
Hi nice little trip. Why don’t you use the central lock, or is there no central lock at the defender?
The front and rear diffs were locked but it's like most 4x4s unless you have actual after market lockers then you'll still spin at the tyre of least resistance.
Four Wheel drives are in reality only getting power to 1 tyre at the front and one at the back when the diffs are locked.

Why didn‘t you use difflocks?
Toyo's look like they're holding up well... are you still disappointed with them?

Yeah dude, that tree strap setup directly to the winch hook had me sweating. Super dangerous! Georg described the proper technique.

how has the canvas been on keeping the rain out of Grizzly? Any times when it hasn't been as good as you would like?
The canvas has not leaked at all and we are happy with the design.
We do get a bit of condensation now and then but that's normal in a pop top camper.
what was the plan after japan? before the whole corona shiz

Euro 4x4 parts.
No lockers ??
I was thinking the same as I saw one rear wheel spinning and the other wheels standing still :)

Maybe I hadn't locked it at that stage.
