The grading doesn’t take into account the difficulty of the shows so we got 5th, UIL we tied with first but lost the tie breaker (idk how it’s graded) so we made second

The way that they work is you pretty much tally up the amount of judges that picked for you in visual and music categories, so say 3 judges picked for your band in both categories and 4 judges picked for the other band, the other band would win
Hey now, I wouldn't say it was a letdown, but last year's was a bit more exciting and impressive. They also still scored super high... And you can forget that vandegrift is some of the best in the US.
