    thank you for this. I speak in a very laid-back way, with my voice falling into my throat, in a lower range, that's why I think it's harder for me to project my voice well, I should speak with a more projected voice

      Butterfly Kiss Awww I feel you, I used to go home after school and chatter to my mum all evening, but she'd tell me to be quiet, she did not know I had no friends to talk to all day at school, I was a very lonely child. I love people and I am very social now, but it has had an effect on my confidence now.
      all I can say is don't give up the fight now.

      Ariana Danii I believe it’s because that’s how you’re adjusted.. but it can be changed .. I’m like this, I started to sing in headvoice/falsetto like everyday for a while and then it began a common thing for me to do (switch into hv/flsto prematurely) I think the best way to help is try to (not physically or you will hurt yourself) push through your instinct to do that .. try to develop some form of chest/mix.. but I’m not professional yet...! It’s just a thought.. it won’t be over night 💗

      Ariana Danii same I can‘t belt high notes I can just sing them using my head voice and my head vooce is still kinda breathy so it sucks. I think you need to strengthen your head voice so you can hit high notes with your mix or belt them

    Mask work is great but proper breath support is a key factor that is also a big part of projection so that your throat doesn't tighten. It is all well and good to use the mask for projection but if attention is not paid to having a low, well supported breath flow the voice quality may be strong but not pleasant to listen to.

      I don't fully understand this, but this is where my problem lies. No issues with 4:45, that's what I always do when I sing quietly. I just can't project that sound though... 🥲 + breath support is an issue for me!

    I like when you mentioned we should practise singing by learning to talk differently. There is probably so much that I do wrong in singing because I don't know how to talk that way, like opening my face, projection, dropping my jaw and possibly modify some vowels and keep the tongue behaving (stuck at the bottom teeth but sometimes the sides of the tongue touching the top back teeth) But I believe when teachers talk about SLS, they mean something fundamental, but maybe leaving out these other techniques.

    Thanks for the video! I'll try to start doing this practice 😀 I'm not sure if I'm gonna do it right though. Hoping I will for my choir group. I prefer singing with my real voice as an Alto but since we lack Sopranos, I sing with them. My main problem is that my high notes come out loud and clear whereas my low notes come out barely a whisper when singing in Falsetto. Falsetto is my go-to when singing from G4 up. Everything below that is sung with my real voice so when a song moves from like C4 to G4, well, my voice changes as well. I have to start being consistent 😪 and I've been told to work on projection so here I am! I'll return when I improve. Lol.

    I also use the craziness of imitating animals and sounds and people when teaching. You present this as fun too!! Then there's the practicing every day OUTSIDE the studio during your everyday activities I think is essential. That's how I learned...inventing ways to use exercises while walking down the street or talking to people in a funny way.
    Thank you for amplifying on these concepts.

    First of all I wanted to tell you that I am a huge fan of your channel and totally love that you are giving us these free lessons :)
    I have been singing for over 4 years just for fun all the time I was bored and I am scared that I might've ruined my voice due to singing during my voting break. Also my voice feels kind of limited as it's very hard to sing any higher notes. I can't hear if I hit the right chords so I also wanted to ask if you have any advice on that?
    thank you very much and sorry for taking your time :)

    • @MadeleineHarveyVoice
      @MadeleineHarveyVoice  8 лет назад +12

      +Simon Spampinato Thanks for your feedback Simon! Your voice is an amazing instrument, and can respond to the slightest relaxed coordination to find balance again. If you feel that your voice is stiff, or limited, try spending some time doing some slight movement around the neck like gentle neck rolls. This will disengage any muscles around your larynx that may have some habitual tensions. Here is a video on singing really high that I'm including... Not specifically so you can sing really high, but this exercise is great at moving the voice in a relaxed way, while building more flexibility on your cords. I hope this helps!! Happy Singing! ruclips.net/video/9lRRF6lJtJE/видео.html

    Of course I'm not going to do the Baby voice for the recording's but I will definitely try some to add some of the the highlighted vocal tones and maybe deeper in places, depending of the scenario.

    why do i feel like my reckless crazy baby voice hurt my throat a lil...how to direct it more forward to the mask from there? #doingitwrong

    • @MadeleineHarveyVoice
      @MadeleineHarveyVoice  8 лет назад +21

      +Mimi Fly OH NO! Not pain! If that sound is hurting your throat, it's because your larynx is raising up a little. So stop using it for now. A good work around is to make a sad face, (Seriously) and whimper. This gets your tone moving forward and your breath supportive without too much fussiness from the larynx. Practice the whimper with short, medium volume sounds. And then increase the volume and the time that your holding out your whimper. This will activate that baby frame of reference and be easier to recreate when you go to sing. I hope this helps! Looking forward to chatting again!

      No, not falsetto. Use a heady-mixed or bright mix. You don't have to imitate her. Just make your voice really light and youthful

    I have some hard time defining crazy baby voice. It is basically high pitch, crying / brat voice no? Does men need to go as high than women ? Just asking ) thanks a lot for your amazing videos, it helps immensely !

      Thanks for your question. Yes, it's basically like a little whinny baby cry thingie. It's great for bringing your vocal cords together and your tone forward. You do not need to cry super high in pitch to benefit from the baby sound. GO as high as it feels comfortable. Feel the sense of balance and access as you play with pitches using this sound. When you get really familiar with it, simply back off of the crying sensation (just a little) and see how your tone warms up a bit. I hope this helps!! Happy Singing!

      Yes it helps, I took singing lessons in France few years ago and my teacher was always insisting to "smile" and make the voice resonnate in the cheekbones, but your videos are fantastic, I make much more progress with them. Which method did you learn ? Thank you !

    Madeleine, I feel difficult to make that baby sound. In another video, "How to Sing with More Power & Edge", you teach the "edge" sound. Is the edge sound related to the "baby voice"?

    your videos are too useful.bt I hav one question to you..why does my voice sound so different when I listen my recordings..its sounds as if sm other person is singing..and thats nt me..I feel I sound good live..but not wen recorded..why??

    • @MadeleineHarveyVoice

      +Indra Desai Excellent question! What you are hearing when you sing is your voice resonating inside of your head. It's going to sound warmer and fuller because what you are perceiving is a smaller resonating space. What other people and recording devices hear is what happens to the sound once it leaves your body..It bounces around the room and thins in the sound wave. That's why we sound different from room to room and in the shower. The more you work on developing your voice, the more supported and compressed your sound will become. That means that the sound wave will be more focused as it bounces around the room acoustically. I hope this helps answer your question! Lots of love to you! Happy Singing!

    I need help.
    When I sing I have a really quiet voice.
    I try everything to make it louder but nothing really seems to work.
    I feel weird when I sing with some of my fellow singers as they have loud big voices. And I don’t. What can I do ??
