Loved your video and my hubby won't let me order off internet with a card so I made my own strainer lids. I went to the local hardware store and bought a small sheet of screen (screen door screen) and cut it into little circles the same size as the jar mouths I was using, Just screw on the rings and VaLa! The screen sheet was 1.50 and I already had the jars and rings because I can my garden veggies. Much love!
We are just now getting back into chickens and I'm so happy I found this video. The only one I've seen so far that actually helped! My grandmother would just let them run in the garden toward end of season. Thank you for this video!
Thank you! We love doing this for our girls, even more during the winter months when things freeze and die outside. I literally just started a new batch just a few moments ago! This is so easy to do. Please let us know how it turns out for you.
Thank you! We built it ourselves and made video on how you can make one easy too! I’ll link it below if you want to build one ruclips.net/video/_Znao8oZ_d4/видео.html
Hey y'all I love sprouts for the chickens but have been having trouble lately, thanks for the refresher and reminder that it's a good protein swap instead of tractor feed. BTW best part of the Video was that little picnic table for them to feed from. Lol please tell me you have a video or something on how you make it I love it. Thanks y'all.
Such a great, easy treat to offer. I was thinking they were so polite, and then you got bit ( unintentionally). I love that mini picnic table ❤. I recently put up a second roost bar and thought of you green recreational perch to make with the scrap ends. I definitely need to do all the above. ❤😊🐓🐓❣
Great idea with the rotation. I’ll try this method out for our chickens. They are so fussy and won’t eat any greens, but they roam free and eat lots of bugs and worms off the grassy areas. I know some people claim that their chickens even eat grass clippings. May be we should build a bigger enclosure and keep a space in there for scraps and sprouts like you’ve done. I loved the video of you guys building the coop. Very cool.
Thanks for watching our other videos from our library. Our chickens do like to eat grass also. We grow grass for them on a grazing box so that they don't de-root it from the yard. Most of our yard is dirt since we live in the desert.
You’re very welcome! I continue to learn and apply what I am learning from you. I’ve built a simple but awesome, covered and secure coop with included run. I think it’s beautiful and my hens will move out in two weeks! Very exciting as you will know. Thanks again.
Great idea! we tend to get a lot of seed sprouts coming up in our nature garden from where the wild birds throw their feed everywhere! We let our girls have free graze of that but you've inspired us to grow some indoors especially for our Quails and "Bill and Ted". Maybe we'll make a complimentary video 😉
Good to hear! Let us know how it goes! Have you guys tried making grazing boxes for your chickens so that they don't completely destroy what is growing?
@@Helsteeds works like a charm, they get unlimited grass (or sprouts some times) and they can't pull the roots out. New sprouts grows over night and they get to have some more first thing in the morning.
@@BockBockBouquet the area our girls are i think has more plants and shoots than they can eat, but in our avairy / converted tiki bar all the plants we try to grow last no time at all! Haha so this would probably be a good solution for them.
Thank you!!! Lol it happens! A little goes a long way. I would just feed them all, or they are delicious to eat for yourself on salads and sandwiches 😋 I suppose if you rinse them and let them strain they could store in the fridge for a bit. If they sit in standing water too long they start to stink and get moldy

I'm currently feeding my 3 wk.old chicks scratch & peck chick starter. Is it ok to feed these micro greens to my babies for a treat? We absolutely Luv your video's!!
Thanks so much! Yes you can. Now would be the time if you are going to start introducing treats to introduce chick grit into their diet. You can mix a little into their feed so they can help break down their food. They need grit to break down roughages like vegetation. We do have a video where we break down every week of raising chicks in this video here ruclips.net/video/icq7otYnlfQ/видео.html

The orange chicken is so greedy! It's great to see all the chickens enjoy the sprouts so much 🙂
hahaha! They all act like if we've been starving them any time we give them anything! Sprouts are fun!
Outstanding information . ! Thank You . !
thanks Kelly love this idea I have been soaking grains but will try growing sprouts now, yay super sprouts super eggs!
We love doing these for our chickens, and we get to eat some on avocado toast also ;-)

Aww, you should grow them some. They are yummy for us too!

Have you tried growing oat and or barley seeds in mason jars and if so how did they do?
You get less rot if after the first soak, you remove the floating debris..
Great tip

How long will the sprouts stay fresh?
Thank you! Depends. If they stay too wet they start to spoil and stink and melt.
Will oats do the same

Is it possible in cold climate, I mean were houses are not centrally heated.
Yes broccoli is a cool weather crop so it germinates and sprouts quite well in cooler temperatures
If I could just sit there 24/7 and feed my little stinkers greens and snacks all day, I’d die a happy man. Also, is Elvis a cross breed?

What size are the jars? 32 oz?
is mungbean sprout good for chicken feeds?
Not familiar with it, I would do a little research when in doubt.

How do I grow them in a grazing box
We lay out potting soil, some fertilizer from the store and drop the seeds in. Water it once a day and they grow rapidly too! Weather has to not be freezing though or it will die.
How much do they need per day and is this instead of grain?
Hello we feed our flock chicken feed (layer feed) free choice in a feeder available to them at all times. This is just a treat we grow for them 😊
Cute girl.
What size jars are those for a gauge?
These ones are the quart, 32 oz. They come in all sizes from teeny tiny 4 oz up to a gallon in mason jars
