VIDEO IDEA: ask your film crew to try and decorate a cake WITHOUT your help! Since they watch you design cakes so much, they’ve got to have picked up some lessons!
Yeah that would be interesting
I’m so impressed by his sculpting skills to make the skull!
My toddler and I love your videos!! We had started watching when my son asked for some "BIG water" so I got up, filled his monster cup with water from the fridge and when I got back into the dinning room he had managed to skootch himself (in his highchair) from the end of the table all the way past the middle to reach my phone so he could press play and continue to watch "the Cake" (as he likes to call all of your videos). It was super cute that he couldn't wait to keep watching. He had toys with him so it's not like he did it out of boredom or anything, he just really loves watching your show!!
I love that so much!!!
Jenn J my son loves his videos too
I've been waiting for you to post so I can say I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW YOU ON NAILED IT!! I was so hoping you'd get on the show and was kind of hoping they'd make people do one of your cakes but it was still good. I legit screamed but I sounded like I was being strangled cause I instantly remembered it was 3 in the morning
Khari Lnnn which episode is he on? Xx
Sarah Adams season 2 out of this world
I was hoping they'd make the contestants do one of his cakes also!!!

I would appreciate it!
You are so good at that🎂
What KAY said!!
Or an Alice through the looking glass cake
6:21...it feels so satisfying cutting off those straws😍
it's insane because he knows exactly what he wants the cake to look like and it's such a specific design and he nails it! EVERY TIME!
Hey Joshua! I’m not really a huge baker, but i am an artist and I love all the cakes you make. I’d like to suggest you make a vintage cake with a lot of flowers and muted colors (with lots of gold of course 😉). Keep on doing what you are doing, and tell your team i love them haha ❤️❤️
Cute idea! I second this.
Yasss I third this.
He allready done that type of cakes...gold and with flower...serch true the videos

The water color was GORGEOUS! It was my favorite part of that cake I wish you would have done more of it. Maybe you should do one just with watercolor. Maybe a ode to a watercolor painting of sorts.

I just watched the ep of nailed it and it was so funny.
I'm so glad your back, Missed you last week. I love the dream catcher. This would of been perfect for my daughters wedding this past Saturday. Excellent job Josh.
your work just simply stunning
Can you please make a Quinceanera cake with tres leches cake please please 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!!!!!!
Could you decorate a tres leches cake? I feel like all of the moisture would keep any fondant or buttercream work from drying/staying
Jill Kealling you would have to freeze the cake first before putting on buttercream and all that
Jill Kealling and it would work because a lot of people make tres leches cakes for Mexican weddings and for sweet 15
gothca, good to know. Thanks!
Jill Kealling and you can’t really put fondant it on it
Make A Peackock Cake Plz
This is one of my favorite cakes you've made yet
That bull skull is so cool, you made it very realistic!
Now I'm hungry 😟😟😟😟😟
CoCo Moco
Me too 💔🌚😭

To the people saying ‘cultural appropriation!’. It is possible to appreciate the beauty and meaning of a dream catcher without being a native. (as well he mentioned in another comment his great grandmother is a Native American)
Mat Meg yes thank you. People see light skin and automatically get offended. Its like they cant tell the difference between an insult and compliment
Most modern/developed societies are a melting pot of cultures anyway, so many people have mixed heritage. Some of the people saying it's cultural appropriation probably aren't even native American themselves - it's fine being anti-racist/anti-fascist but I think we should allow the people it would actually concern to be the judges of whether something is appropriation, not try and speak on their behalf as if we know whether it really is offensive to them or not, as they might not agree with us anyway.
An example close to home is in the past some UK councils have tried to rename Christmas to something more generic so as not to offend people of other religions... who don't even care!
It's a beautiful cake, anyway. Love the skull!
Okay but it's a religious symbol, not a fucking decoration for whites.
Also: his grandmother being part First Nations doesn't make him one. There's a lot more to being First Nations than "My granny was one sixty fourth Cherokee princess"
AdeptLen Some Natives feel that way, and I respect that. However, I would ask that you consider something. The commercialized "dream catchers" are a derivative of the original. While they may be inspired by something sacred, the ones sold in stores and such are not, especially since they have changed enough from the original to essentially be their own separate thing. Furthermore, not all First Nations people mind it as much as you do, as said "appropriation" is often done by ignorant white people just trying to show appreciation for Native cultures. Some of the First Nations people are also more open and willing to share their culture with outsiders than others are. I know, for example, that the Eastern Band of the Cherokee shares and demonstrates a decent amount of their culture. In fact, thanks to James Mooney, a white anthropologist, we have a lot recorded on Cherokee culture from before the removal and Trail of Tears. More and more indigenous peoples are now writing about their cultures that were passed down to them. Sometimes, while not ideal, sharing and possibly having something appropriated is the far lesser of two evils.
Even so, the verdict on dream catchers really belongs to the Ojibwe people to decide, as that's where dream catchers originated.
This is true. My grandfather was 100% Tyendinaga Mohawk (Bay of Quinte) but I grew up with ZERO immersion in that culture/heritage. My dad and his sister passed for 100% white their whole lives (and so have I) and did not know much about it either, since grandpa died when they were still very young. I do not consider myself Mohawk despite my genetics, because I was never taught anything about it - and technically, I could never join, because it has to be maternal line, not paternal. Being immersed in that culture and heritage that makes a huge difference.
That being said, it's not just white people who do cultural appropriation. Practically every race and culture does it on some level - Japan does it A LOT in popular culture. Does that make it ok? Not really. But do many of the people here even know what tribe the dreamcatcher is from? Do they know its meaning? Its use? Does Joshua know? I'm guessing no. To him, it's just something "cool" and "trendy", which is what makes this so sad. Both sides are being hypocritical.
Also...it would be interesting to see if any Christians would be offended by a fun, neon-colored Crucifix cake. I wonder...
Wow Josh this is stunning, love it.
I just finished season two of nailed it and I nearly screamed when you were on it, I was so excited
Try to come early as possible, but there was 246 comments....
I had a dream that I smacked my abusive ex in the face with a nail file and idk how to make that a cake but I would want to commemorate it lmao 😂😂
Carly Winchell with a nail file?? Hahah
This cake has become my new goal!! OMG I´m In LOVE
That's by fare my favourite cake. It combines all of my favourite things skulls, watercolour and dreamcatchers. Amazing work !
I'm always super confused why you post in the middle of the night but oh well hello Joshua I love you and your cakes :D
whereismyaesthetic maybe is UK time!! 😁
Where I live it's 12pm
Different timeszones maybee?
In the UK I get it around Ten, half ten, in the morning😊
Umh.... Do you know how timezones works? 😁😁
As someone who's Native American I see nothing wrong with this at all. Stop getting so dang offend folks.
Katelynn Barnes lol! Yes!! I love that you said this because most people who are actually Native wouldn’t be and aren’t offended by things like this. It’s only white people who feel guilty because they’re told they should.
My favorite so far! And I LOVE you cakes👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Your cakes are always so amazing you are such an inspiration
Does it kinda kill anyone else to see him cut into at the end? I guess cake is like a Tibetan mandala- meant to remind us of the transient nature of life.
Wow you are so bad a$$ when it comes to designing cakes. Kill it!
I have been watching your videos non stop for 2 days. They are incredible! You are so talented!
So cool!!! Incredible work Joshua!!!
Normally I myself give people the benefit of the doubt for doing things that border on cultural appropriation, especially because the respectful use of different indigenous cultures' designs and styles can actually help celebrate and educate people about the various native cultures in the Americas, but putting a dream catcher on a wedding cake is way too far.
Symbolically, this akin to drawing Muhammad and offending Islam's iconoclastic identity, putting a menorah on a Christmas tree and reducing a pre-Christian symbol of Judaism to a decoration adopted by another faith.
Perhaps someone with particular native heritage could make or request this wedding cake, yes, that's fine, and possibly Joshua himself too has native heritage he somehow wants to share, I don't know, but to use a dream catcher as a decoration on a larger item loaded with its own symbolism and spiritual connotations without that more appropriate context completely destroys any opportunity to teach about its religious significance and cultural history, being a spiritual symbol that was popularized as a symbol in the mid 20th century in efforts to further recognize the independence of native nations and wellbeing of indigenous peoples, much of which has made relatively little gains politically today.
Another reason why this is completely out of line is a glaring geography problem. Dream catchers originated from the plains and woodlands Ojibwe cultures around central Canada and parts of the Great Lakes areas of the US. They have NOTHING to do with the southwest at all, and taking a religious symbol from one place and superimposing it on another is deeply offensive not just for the Ojibwe and other cultures related to it, but to the indigenous cultures of the southwest.
It's obvious to me that Joshua isn't intending on defaming on disparaging any ethnicity, but it is a conversation worth having. I hope that he and others could take this opportunity to learn more about the origins of the various more en vogue indigenous American motifs so we can all continue to celebrate them.
PLEASE like so JJR can see this! Thank you!
cinnamonbeard it's not a wedding cake
Not only that, but having claims of Native heritage isn’t necessarily sufficient in being able to say one isn’t appropriating another’s culture. There’s a question being raised in the Native community if one person can appropriate another tribe’s culture. Thinking about it, a tribe from California is going to be drastically different than a tribe in New York. So not only is just being able to say ‘I’m Native’ is a valid excuse anymore. Without appropriate understand of the past and culture of the tribe you are representing can actually be detrimental. Indigenous peoples weren’t allowed to express themselves, but he can put it on a cake
You really need to find something better to do than be offended by something that isn’t meant to be anything but a beautiful price of edible art.
I bet you aren’t even native, haha. It’s usually only the guilty white SJWs that are offended by so called “cultural appropriation”.
Bro get a life it's a cake it's not that deep
Aren't dream catchers from a closed religious tradition? Also they might be protected by the native American crafts act.... Cool cake, just something to consider.
Nick MacKenzie Dream Catchers were said to trap bad dreams and allow good dreams to pass through. It's more of a cultural thing than a religious thing really. A lot of their traditions stem from their beliefs though. I have several handmade ones along with one a family member gave me. Being Native American I find pride when people show appreciation from my culture. I'm also Irish and love when people show appreciation for Irish traditions as well.
With that act you just can’t make it and sell it saying it’s authentic. That’s why you can buy dream catchers from Spencer’s and other places that are made in China
AMAZING!Love it.Its so beautiful
Dude, you are stupidly talented. I’m having a really difficult time in life and you’re making me smile every night. Thank you for that.
‘Southwestern inspired cake’?
“Today I’m making a Northern Europe inspired cake!” *makes an entire Gothic Cathedral*
Like just google a random Native American tribe first, it’s not that hard.
andtuf southwest has alot of inspiration that come from both indian tribes and Mexican people. Its not just native Americans.
Oh look, another offended person who likely doesn't have one ounce of Native American blood. I guess I should be offended by everyone who uses celtic and viking symbols since I am 56% Northwestern European.
I've never met an offended Native American, but I have met a lot of offended people who aren't connected to their culture. Everyone uses something from someone's culture, it's what makes a place diverse and beautiful. It's not wrong unless you're mocking their culture or literally degrading their culture.
Cierra Rouse I just find it frustrating when symbols and images from native culture are used decoratively with no attempt at understanding or even mentioning the culture they hail from. It’s a particularly persistent problem for native people in the US since it leads to a dominant cultural perception that those people and their culture no longer exist (much like the Vikings you mentioned.) This then makes it incredibly hard for native people to campaign for their rights and treatment since they first have to convince the people around them that they’re still here and hurting. Celtic knots and other symbols can be reliably traced back to their culture and people, whereas symbols like dream catchers and eagle feathers are stripped of any culture of origin and called ‘tribal’ or ‘southwestern’. Use all the dream catchers you want, just name drop a quickly googled origin first. It’s not hard. (And by the way, there are plenty of videos on RUclips where native people react to things like tribal makeup or Halloween costumes, and they’re usually not big fans.)
andtuf its bullshit though. My culture is spread literally everywhere i dont get frustrated im happy because I want people to enjoy my food ,my decor ,my culture ,my people. Why .. WHY do you see it as bad why do you WANT to get offended. Damn kids these days. Growing up I need get offended over this. Now I cant throw a rock without hitting one of you.
You're saying that due to people appreciating and finding beauty in Native American symbols, that they're no longer being related back to Native Americans?
That's not a fair statement to make. I am sure there are ignorant people out there who use symbols without knowing their origins, but that happens to every. single. culture. in. the. world.
There will always be ignorant people, but there are also plenty of people who do fully understand the culture. Vikings never wore horns on their helmets, that myth has stuck around for ages and now that's all you see when a viking is represented. It is actually said to be a mockery of their culture because horns makes them look more intimidating and demonic.
It's one thing to defend a culture that is being smeared... it's another to claim that people are taking 'away' from a culture by appreciating its beauty. The more a culture becomes appreciated, the more people are aware that they exist... it's when people ignore a culture, that it starts to die.
It's a cake. If you want to have a debate over culture and heritage, take it over to some appropriate place.
There's /enough/ negativity going on in the world. Don't bring it in here as well, please.
I fully agree!
Same. It’s just a cake. Dream catchers are dream catchers. If you like them, so what?
By FAR MY MOST FAVORITE CAKE!! EXACTLY MY STYLE ..And it matches my heritage..Mohican Indian..ty..LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!
Ooh! I just bought two dream catchers for my bedroom!! Perfect cake 👌
Using my people's culture as literal decoration is disheartening. I'm not watching this channels content anymore.
Dr Bunni It made for a beautiful cake. He wasn't being disrespectful or anything. It's art. If you look to get offended by everything, that's disheartening. Dreamcatchers are everywhere. And bull skulls are not exclusive to our culture. Plus, this looks like an art deco piece you would find hanging in Arizona or the like.
I don’t think he meant to make it offensive. Besides I’m sure there are many cultures that started off appropriating other cultures practices. I agree he should’ve given credit where it was due, but we should be more open to share our culture with other people
Oh fuck me. Enough seriously. I would love for him to make a mexican inspired cake if he wasnt white you wouldn't have a problem with it.
Stop being butthurt.
WYNOLLO TV He did a sugar skull! You should see the comments on that one.
Sydney Wheeler i commented how much i loved it. Its funny that those offended AREN'T EVEN IN MEXICO
Got I love this show so much. It provides so much inspiration and recipes for my own amateur cake making. You’re maple Italian meringue buttercream changed my whole world.
Thank you for making this! My sister wants a cake for going back to college/birthday and this gave me the perfect inspiration for her cake!
I m dreaming about how the dream catcher cake tasted it’s so cool thank you. You’re the best.
My favorite cake so far. But too pretty to eat. Like a piece of art.
