Just to add a little context: Rubens was not a communist, he was a democrat. When Brazil received the coup d’ Etat he was a congressman and made a speech against the coup. After the coup, his mandate was revoked by the new regime and he was exiled out of the country. He have decided to come back and he was working as an engineer. That’s the context off the movie. He had some friends that were consider by the regime a threat and the help that he offered was delivering briefs with some notice to the families from the people that were in exile (all of them were consider communist by the regime, and for this brutal regime, it was justificate to pursue, torturate and do whatever they want if a person was a left wing)
Os militares e apoiadores da ditadura colocaram esse "fantasma" de comunismo para dar desculpa para o golpe. O Brasil nunca teve a perigo de comunismo. Nem em 64 nem agora
@@JesusGivanildoH was targeted becaus while on th Partido trabalhista - workers party - he engajed in creating new work laws that would protect black people. Workers rights/ welfare stat was one of the reasons for the coup. And let’s not forget it was fistered by the US!
Btw the prison scen was filmed in downtown Rio de Janeiro in one of the places people were tortured and today that is occupied and in use by the military police.
I've never seen this before inside a movie theater. People were sniffling all around, and lots of tissues... Especially during the ice cream scene (I don't wanna spoil) and at the end. Mind you, my wife's mom has the same ''problem'' ( I don't wanna spoil it) Eunice has. Go watch it, it's a must-see. The main actress can speak so much with just a look. Incredible.
I'm brazilian and I still didn't get to watch the movie, but I get really happy everytime I read the comments or watch international reviews about I'm Still Here and Fernanda's amazing performance. My country has a long list of amazing, innovative artists and artistic movements, but most of the times the world only see us as an under developed country they can copy without giving any credit. It is really touching to see a talented brazilian actress I really love and a movie about our History being praised around the world, especially in the times we're living today.
Thanks for this review. Fernanda is just a power of nature playing Eunice Paive, you believe the whole time u are not watching a movie, but seeing how this period of time unwraped in Brazil. Love Demi, bit Fernanda has the best performance for sure.
Walter Salles managed to tell the tale of such a cruel time not only in Brazil but in other South American countries as well in a respectful and sensitive way. Fernanda Torres and all the cast pay a beautiful homage to the Paiva family. I'm Still Here deserves to be acknowledged.
Fernanda Torres delivers an extraordinary performance in I’m Still Here, demonstrating her mastery of nuance, depth, and emotional intensity. With every scene, she captivates the audience, balancing raw vulnerability with a quiet strength that lingers long after the credits roll. Her ability to convey complex emotions with subtle expressions and precise timing is a testament to her artistic maturity and deep understanding of the craft. What makes her portrayal truly remarkable is the authenticity she brings to the role-every gesture, every silence, every glance feels deeply lived-in, as if she is not merely performing but embodying the very essence of the character. This level of commitment transforms the film into an immersive experience, making it impossible to look away. Her Golden Globe recognition is well deserved, not just as an acknowledgment of this singular performance but as a celebration of a career defined by excellence, fearlessness, and an unwavering dedication to storytelling. Hats off to Fernanda Torres. Congrats Brazil for this masterpiece 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The president of Rio Carnaval this year just said they wil screen the ceremomy during the parade.lol Im.dreaming about the memes if the movie and Fernanda wins in the middle of brazillian carnaval I dont know if foreigner can realize how huge is to have the cerenomy in the middle of the biggest show on earth 😂❤
I'm Still Here is a very powerful, ultra-realistic and intimate political plot, which is based on a theme of profound importance to all of us, the family. In addition to leaving us deeply connected with the sublime interpretation of the character Eunice Paiva (Fernanda Torres), the film also shows us that resilience and humanity is the best way to combat facism, Masterpiece. I loved your review.
"I'm Still Here" and Fernanda Torres deserve Oscars! With the alarming rise of authoritarianism globally, this film's powerful story of resistance against dictatorship is more critically relevant than ever. It serves as a vital reminder of democracy's fragility and the urgent need to defend human rights and justice. The film boasts an exceptional script, crafting a compelling narrative that resonates deeply. The masterful direction brings this story to life with impactful visuals and a palpable emotional core. Fernanda Torres delivers a nuanced and truly masterful performance, embodying the strength, vulnerability, and unwavering resolve of a woman confronting unimaginable adversity. Her portrayal is both captivating and deeply moving, connecting with audiences on a profound level. "I'm Still Here" transcends mere entertainment; it's a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a potent call to action against oppression, making it an essential and compelling cinematic experience worthy of the highest accolades.
I love Demi Moore, I thought she was incredible in The Substance. But it’s a fiction/horror film, and capturing the audience’s attention in that genre is “easier”. It’s much harder to do so in a slow-paced drama, over 2 hours, in a non-english language. And Torres do it
This movie shows exactly how middle class people lived in Rio when these facts really happened. It's so real that is almost incredible. There's something strange however: Fernanda Torres is not Fernanda Torres. While watching the movie i was thinking: it's not possible, there will be a moment when she will show herself, but in the end who appeared was her mother that is not Fernanda Montenegro as well. It's a kind of magic.
Fernanda Torres deserves to get de Oscar this year. I watched I’m Still Here twice, the first to enjoy the film and the second time to analyze it deeply. All in all, I can't help to think this is the best film of 2024.
I’m Still Here is one of the most powerful and deeply Brazilian films I’ve ever seen, probably my favorite. It captures the resilience, love, and pain of a country that still carries the scars of its past. My great-grandfather was a political prisoner during the military dictatorship, and watching this film felt incredibly personal-like a tribute to all those who suffered and resisted, and at a moment so many democracies around the world fear perishing. It’s a film that deserves to be seen, felt, and recognized on the biggest stages. If you come across this comment, I urge you to watch it. You won’t forget it. I’m Still Here and Fernanda Torres deserve to finally bring Brazil our first Oscar! 🇧🇷❤️🇧🇷❤️ #ImStillHere
I am glad you enjoyed the story of Still Here. Walter's direction is brilliant, and Fernanda Torres' performance is simply impeccable. As David Fear wrote for Rolling Stone, "To say that Torres delves into the role of Eunice Paiva would be an understatement." It is a film that has a lot to say and says it with so few words...
Be careful, this comment contains spoilers. Thank you for the review, this film is very important for us Brazilians, a film that rescues a memory that was being lost, a memory that shows us what we should never return to. Eunice Paiva was an extraordinary woman who made her difference in the world, graduating as a lawyer at the age of over 45, fighting for human rights and the rights of the indigenous peoples of Brazil, Brazilian indigenous people owe a lot to Eunice who helped create several reserves that today protect the Amazon and the forests of Brazil that still remain. Fernanda performs in her gesture, her gaze and her contained pain. It shows the strength of this woman who, despite everything she went through, remained standing and raised her children and formed them with dignity and resilience. Fernanda didn't need to dishevel her hair to convey the feelings she wanted and that for a performance is something complex. Eunice died with Alzheimer's, her memory in life is gone, but in history her memory will remain alive forever.
According to Marcelo Rubens Paiva, in the book "I'm Still Here", at the moment the family photo was taken, where the photographer asked them to smile, Veroca is the only one who doesn’t smile because she was in London and learned about everything happening in Brazil from other exiled Brazilians who told her. Those living in Brazil had almost no access to any information.
This movie messed me up!!! I came home crying and called my dad, who lived in Brazil during that time but never shared anything about it. My dad was drafted to join the military in Brazil, like all young 18 yo Brazilians did. Growing up, he would tell me he wanted to be a journalist but never moved forward. On that phone call, after watching the movie, I learned why. He was allowed to leave his military role after a year and he was motivated to be a journalist after all he saw, but his family and friends discouraged him because journalists were "disappearing" at the time...
Every dictatorship dehumanizes its targets. This movie, instead of picturing the vicious way the dictatorship treated its objectors, humanizes them. It's a human film above all labels and, because of this, it dialogues with so many people.
Thank You, você está certo, foi um tempo duro e sombrio no Brasil durante 20 anos e por nada, hoje somos Livres, e sim o Filme é real, Fernanda é ótima e Obrigado por recomendar< Abraços do Brasil para voçê.
Hey. You may flooded with other movies that you should watch. Take your time and watch some. For instance, Fernanda Torres is notorious in Brazil for her work in comedies and the 2007 “Basic Sanitation” by Jorge Furtado is a great example.

Fernanda Torres, the incridible performance, I'M STILL HERE 👏 👏 👏 👏
Fernanda has authored The End in case anyone wants to read her. You can read It in English.

Many actresses could replace Demi Moore in The Substance, but no one would be able to replace Fernanda Torres in I'm Still Here.

Fernanda Torres é maravilhosa, selton mello é incrível o filme AINDA ESTOU AQUI é formidável ❤❤❤❤❤❤!
The giants of movie insdustry are playing dirty against Fernanda Torres. Mentioning her name badly on press.
The ice cream parlor scene devastated me. Fernanda is such a powerful actress!
That one got me sobbing real hard! Yes, I cried a few times throughout the film, but this one, in particular, was devastating!
A mim também, concordo com tudo que disse!
The ice cream parlor scene is so amazing. Fernanda's acting was 10/10.

Todo que disse foi maravilhosamente colocado, sinceros parabéns! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Rubens was tortured to death on the following day of his kidnapping. Like him, hundreds of other bodies never appeared again.
Fernanda Torres won the Palme d'Or at Cannes for best actress in 1986, when she was just 21 years old. She is really something.
It would be a dream If Fernanda Torres win an Oscar 25 years after her mother was nominated! Its ABSOLUTE CINEMA
Aconteceria uma catarse no sambódromo, que vai transmitir ao vivo o Oscar na avenida, durante o carnaval ✨✨👏👏👏👏✨
