    I scrapped a fair few AC units in my time and one thing is for sure it’s definitely worth scrapping 👍🏻😃

    I scrap my brother, old AC unit two years ago. Because it was a family gift, I did this exercise of breaking down the price. On paper, I ended with the same amount, in canadian dollars. I sold the iron and the compressor as is. But only recently did I sold the copper, brass and rad. I think I had the top price for copper at 5.50 for number 2. So I probably had a similar price you had in USD.

    a couple of important points, how long did the deconstruct take? how much did you expend in additional resources, ie; tools, electricity, dedicated space,..?
    Complete assessment of the costs and benefits would paint a different picture.

    • @ElectronicWasteExplorers
      @ElectronicWasteExplorers  4 месяца назад +2

      For each unit I need approx 30 minutes to fully take it apart and recover all the metals. And additional expenses will be to 1 to 2 $ electricity for each unit I process.
      Tools needed: impact drill, angle grinder, wire cutter.

    That was an older AC unit, nice find. Modern ones don't have that much copper but still are good. I worked for Carrier Corp. I always tear them down. I see people throwing whole ones in the shredder pile all the time. SMH.

      Good point of view brother. In my opinion If you turn in an ac unit as a whole you lose 60% to 80% of profits.

    You can take a knife and make a line along the copper pipes on the radiator and after you can take them out very easy and you can make more copper and the aluminium foils you can sell separatley! so more money to make...

  • @silver_salvage_savage
    @silver_salvage_savage 4 месяца назад +1

    That was a bit more copper than I typically get from an ac, but awesome!

    • @ElectronicWasteExplorers
      @ElectronicWasteExplorers  4 месяца назад +2

      I also was surprised by the amount of copper I recovered from this batch of ac units, but no complaining 😁. It must be old manufacturing.
      Thank you for your comment brother 😉👍

    Always scrap everything. As long as it's got a power cord chances are you'll find electric motors and lots of copper. Aircons and fridges and home appliances good source of copper

      Ya, more like $.09 for the shred and #2 steel. We all need to stop going to scrap yards until they either fold or start paying. You have no idea how much these bastards are stealing from you. Don't ever bring bare bright to a scrap yard and copper will be the new gold for the next few decades.
      Imho

    the only time it's worth it for me is if i'm getting paid to do it. i don't work at a facility on a daily basis anymore so that's infrequently. my local scrapper will only take full units/appliances on donation typically. overall not worth it
    i do pull reusable or resalable parts out and i feel i get enough "scrap value" from that. Someone else down the line can have the 20-50 bucks

    scraping whole you're just giving the scrap yard extra money...
    most things are better to disassemble and scrap
    in the radiators.. if you unsolder it all.. those are copper pipes in it.. just heat them and pull them out
