  • In this video, I go over some of the essential motions you need to know to be able to code efficiently in Vim.
    If anyone wants a vim configuration video, I will probably making one if people ask for one, so let me know in the comments.

    Short and nice summary of the keybindings. I would have liked to see the "e" and "ge" motions included. I like how they work the same way as "w" and "b" but just on the last char of words rather than the first.

      Yeah I did consider mentioning the "e" motion, but I usually do not use the motion often. I'll definitely mention it in my next video, and I'll try using it more often.

    This is very helpful for vim noob like me. It's just that you're almost whispering that I had to crank my laptop volume to maximum to hear you. Thanks for this. ;-)

      My bad, I was pretty far from the mic. I'll try to balance the audio better next time

    Get a Corne layered keyboard.
    You can setup layers of your keyboard and do this kind of stuff in all apps. Also num pad under right hand, arrows under left on layer 2, layer 3 emojis, brackets, symbols etc. Split, Ergo, tentable, blank keys etc. Pair with AutoHotKey to run macros under any key on any layer you want. Trutly next level.

    What will be useful is a series of mnemonic tools to remember the keystrokes, or speaking the language. “Back 3 words”

    Short question: How important is it to work with line numbers while editing and use hjkl.
    The first one is because working with line numbers messes with my train of thought (heavily).
    The second one is because I find the hand position to use hjkl uncomfortable.

    • @TheNycRat
      @TheNycRat  Год назад

      I think that using line numbers is not that important if it is an issue for you. And for hjkl, they are important motions for moving the cursor, so it is best you get used to the motions

      @@TheNycRat In this case I actually think that vim motions aren't for me because I get hand cramps from it (I also don't do proper touch typing because of it but a hybrid style instead).

    • @mnurrreza
      @mnurrreza Год назад +1

      I touch typed myself. And it's been the best for me you should not put your pointer finger in the h key. It's supposed to be on the j key, hence why it is used to navigate down.

    • @kuhluhOG
      @kuhluhOG Год назад

      @@mnurrreza I do (or rather did) have that finger position (after all, what do you think these physical markers on "F" and "J" are for?)
