Thank you for showing up. Physical and emotional challenges are part of life, aren't they? Have been going through my own stuff for the last couple of years and sometimes it gets hard to show up (in the studio and here on the Tube). I appreciate you.
Yes! You get it! Showing up for myself and this RUclips project feels like I’ve cracked some code. It’s easy to say, I’m not feeling it or I’m not in the right headspace, but part of what I want to do here is be fully authentic. Not performative. Thank you for seeing that. Also! Your channel is taking off! I love that! I’m so proud of you. Keep going!!
One of my favorite things to do is make art with little humans. All the ones in my life walk into this house and one of the first things they ask for is paint and canvas ans I always have it on hand. I’m ok with messes and happy little people. I’m loving your bear painting so much. It’s unexpected with the super cool colors behind. I can see your personal style as I’ve watch you paint over these past few months. You can nap in your studio! It was also fun to see a different perspective of your studio. Adding the faces really does bring the bears to life. I have a very small version of those wax pastels 2’s that was in an art subscription box. I’ve never used them😳🙈 now I hope you use them in a future video and I will be inspired to try mine out. The packaging is just gorgeous. Oh gosh, that’s a bummer. I’m sure they will make it right. I’m glad they made it right. I may need to get that meditation deck. I’ll use your link. 8 love these exercises that feel no pressure yet get things flowing. Those small canvas art pieces are adorable and any animal would be adorable. I’m keen on cats!
You are the best!!! Yes to painting with little ones. That free expression is a gift! And I doooooo have a style! I’m discovering it too. And it’s soooo fun. I have to figure out filming in the studio! It’s so tiny. I’ll keep moving stuff around probably. I was so bummed about my crayons… but they were super nice and are shipping a new set on Monday. No napping for me! That’s my giant beast of a dogs bed. He would be so disappointed. 😂 although he has NO problem getting in my damn bed. And I’m thinking cats for some of my support animals! And totally get the deck. It will be perfect for your art journaling. Especially when you aren’t feeling like creating. It takes the decision making out of it.
Jackie your long hair is gorgeous! That deck of cards looks fun. And I love the little sketchbook you have, to do it in- such a fun thing! I'm curious- how are watercolor and guache different? I've used watercolour so I'm somewhat familiar with that. I'm 42 & just found out I have arthritis in my hip- NOT FUN! I'm sorry about your knee. I've always enjoyed art, but I am struggling to make time for it, and even to enjoy it when I do make time for it- because I really struggle with perfectionism. Even when I'm trying to enjoy painting, it's like a constant dialogue with this critical voice in my head that ruins the fun. Love the reminder about never wasting paint (I also worry about wasting good watercolour paper haha). It was fun "spending time with you" by watching this video.
The Color Meditaton Deck is so fun and helps to get the creative mind moving. Gouache also has chalk or Calcium Carbonate added to make it flat and opaque. It can be re dissolved after it has dried just like watercolor. I like it because it is flat - has less blendy movement than watercolor. It KIND of reminds me of paint that little kids use, but it's MUCH better quality. Oh no! Is there anything they can do for you hip? I'm hopeful we can find a solution because it's a real bummer. So... I have a suggestion about getting started. When I restarted my art practice five years ago I used watercolor on cheap card stock. I bought a ream of it at Walmart and told myself I could paint total crap on it because it wasn't nice paper. At first I just made marks. Then I started making figures or other things, but for about 3 months I just did one piece a day. Nothing fancy and nothing worth keeping - except it was the thing that pushed me past NOT doing art to doing art. Because the paper wasn't nice I didn't expect anything. Even if you can't do it everyday and do it on the weekends the trick is that you have zero expectations. I hope you try it!
I sometimes push my self on low energy times, but if I feel it is being too much just take break (*luckily I don't rely ob my art to live and that helps of course), we need to hear our body and mind and better listen than be sorry afterwards right? ❤ I'm loving how your bear study is going Jackie 😍 your bright colours make me smile! Good week ✨️
Agreed! I think rest is part of the creative cycle. I make SOME of my income from art and my creative projects - but it isn't the sole provider. Which I am grateful for. It allows me to have space, reflect, take my time. I'm not having to push or work when I'm depeleted. That's such a gift. Have a beautiful week! 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜
Jackie, I'm sorry to hear about your knee! I hope the meeting with the orthopedic surgeon goes well. Really grateful for you and your inspiring lovely videos!
just randomly got recommended your video and I have to say I clicked on it because it’s so refreshing to see and art studio on RUclips that looks like an actual busy working artist studio and not some aesthetic curated room. Love RUclips art vids but sometimes they really give skewed representations of what studios and sketchbooks are for and should look like. An art studio is a place you can get messy, dusty, paint splatters in without worry. Most artists I know who have studio spaces in actual shared art studio buildings have them as organised chaos, places of messy inspiration. Also as much as I love sketchbooks and as limited as my space is, it’s a shame that the video format on here means that people always think drawing and painting means working small, and never explore techniques or materials that would work wonders on larger formats (which is really what a studio is for, too) . Anyway, nice studio!
Yeah! I get so freaked out by those perfect studios. I didn't want to do RUclips for a LONG time because I KNEW my art practice didn't fit into what was shown... that super organized space. But I changed my mind when I realized that what I have and what I do is just as valid even though it's a working art studio and not a magazine quality art studio. I DREAM of being able to go bigger - I could if my darn dog didn't decide that my studio was his den! Anyhoo. Thanks so much for watching and for connecting!
@@JackieWolven I sometimes wonder if some people have a prop show studio for RUclips filming and then an actual studio. That they use for their actual practice. 😆
Thanks! These are particularly delightful. Bears are ALWAYS fun... unless you are running away from one probably. And the Deck is GORGEOUS! I am loving it.
Do you keep going in your art practice even when you have low energy? Let’s talk about it. ❤

Can you please spell the artists names that you mention. It is hard to understand the names.
Oh gosh. Thank you for the feedback. When I have time, in editing, I will try to remember to spell them out on the screen!
