THANK YOU FOR SAILING WITH US!

Once again, EXCELLENT! Just watching and listening to Mark is enough for anyone to put your faith in a trained, qualified, and experience rigger, rather than attempting a DYI job. Thank you both.
This is absolutely fascinating to see the skill that goes into doing the maintenance / restoration work. Good of Mark to let you shoot the work in progress, he really knows his stuff..
Outstanding video and editing Drake… Mark gives his knowledge openly and is worth his weight in rum. I look forward to your videos because of how much I learn from the people involved in your journey and the questions you ask… Thank you for welcoming us aboard… fresh winds.
mark is the man!
a man of knowledge is mark ,great video
I'm guessing we're going to have to re-rig our Westsail. It's helpful to see Mark walk you thru the process. It must be a good feeling knowing that all your rigging is 100%. Great vids Drake!
I find your videos great. And Mark is a rock star. for letting you film his trade
Fun note: About 7 years ago, I was a staff designer for a tool bag company called CLC and that cube-shaped 1526 soft tool case that Mark has been using throughout these series of vids is one that I helped re-design for CLC. I used to see that thing and many other items in my sleep. In a small strange way, it's nice to see something I had a hand in being used by a skilled craftman. Looks like it's held up well. BTW if he hates that bag, I take it all back, I had no part in it whatsoever and some other idiot designer did it! :)
cool! Thanks Evan J, It's a great tool bag! I will email Mark your comment. :)
This series is great. Thanks.
Very cool Drake! I just hope I can find a guy like Marc when I get Vagabond down to Freeport Texas.
Every blue water sailor NEEDS to see these videos. Out of curiosity, how does profurl get the 1st forestay wire in. Vacumn a string down to tie it to maybe??
wow fantastic videos thanks for sharing!!!
+marc cormier Brilliant! Glad you enjoyed it marc! If you enjoyed this episode, you might want to check out the interview series we did with Mark the Rigger. Super cool guy and sooooo knowledgeable! Cheers (✿◠‿◠) ⚓-Monique

Thank you so very much for your hard work :))
All this is why I would just go with more day to day work and have hanks. Then again... my ideal vessel is a Cutter. Like being a Volvo fan I like NON typical stuff.
Hey Drake! I love to watch your videos!!! Learned so much because of it! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I just purchased my boat a Morgan 41 in NYC and I am taking it to Miami and I am in Atlantic City right now because I could not handle the cold! I am not used to it! lol
I have a jammed RF and I was thinking of stopping at this Marina in Oriental t have this guy looking at it! Do you know how I can get a hold on him?
I absolutely love your videos. . I dont even have a boat yet and am just learning about all the things that need to be kept up on a sailing vessel. One question I have is , dopes it really make sence to do all that work on the norseman fittings? How much do they cost new? I think you said you did 28 of them. If they are like 30 bucks each vrs an hrs labor at 60 bucks......
Plz, thank Mark for me. His running dialog of what, when why and how is invaluable. I'm refitting a Newport 27 as a prototype for my future cruiser. Defiantly stocking up on the recommended products. Here in CA even the GE Marine Grade silicone smells like vinegar. Thankfully, I didn't use it and hopefully I can order some real Marine Grade silicon and cocking online.
Hi. Great series of videos. I have a couple of questions:
1 - I’m just wondering whether welding the new forestay to the old is the norm vs taking the furler sections apart and feeding the new stay through each section. I have an old manual one operated Reckmann furler.
2 - is it generally acceptable to take end fittings apart, clean, inspect, replace cones and refit or is there an age at which (irrespective of a positive inspection) the end fittings, turnbuckles, insulators, cotter pins should be replaced (even if they look perfect).
Thank you.

Mark is very knowledgable
I always suspected there must be a wire inside the furler's profile, now I know it for sure. Thanks Drake!!! :-) Just wondering how ours is doing in there... :-|
Kismet Adventures Your very welcome Kismet Adventures! Of al of the old standing rigging on my Westsail 42 monohull, the staysail wire was the only one which had actual visible damage. A few strands had broken just above the Norseman fitting at the bottom. I think this was from being hove-to in storms with the staysail up so many times. Thank you for your awesome catamaran sailing videos! Happy sailing, Drake
great videos thanks
Hi Drake! like the story on the x ray test . Mark knows his stuff for sure ! Question ,I have heard stories about new wire that is not as good as the replaced wire because its comes from China ? when the old wire is made here in the US or in Europe is it not much better quality of metal ? have you or Mark had any cases like that ?
It's hard to get a sense of time with the videos broken up. How long did it take to do all of the rigging work?
Hi Tommy, Replacing the standing rigging took a few weeks. All together we spent 3 years repairing and renovating Paragon in Oriental, NC before we pushed off for Iceland. The mast was off the boat for almost 2 years as I painted it and replaced everything on it before we started making new standing rigging.
wow, we/I cannot imagine the fact that some yachts need to have various parts x-rayed in-order to ascertain their integrity, the cost, almost to much to fathom..........anyway, most interesting as always!
Wasn't that guy in Wayne's World?
When dealing with your headstay furler extrusion, be careful. When handling it, you can accidentally bend or slightly crush a section. Even a small bend or crush can prevent the upper swivel from reaching the top of the extrusion when you hoist your sail. This just happened to my slipmate after the yard reinstalled his rig.
