I'll never understand the people who feel led to nitpick performances on RUclips. I'm afraid we've become so conditioned for aural perfection from artists that we cannot let ourselves enjoy music for music's sake. Frankly, it's pointless and rude. At the end of they day, this is a lovely performance that is highly enjoyable.
It is kind of annoying how the song says it’s Mass In B Minor but what you actually hear is being in the key B Flat Minor which is annoying because the song is pitched incorrectly. This would be less annoying if the video said it was anti-nightcored but these videos are too misleading.
@@lordartoriuscollbrande7434 not sure if you're joking but there has never been a wholly standardized tuning for all orchestras and time periods, with A being tuned as low as 415 hz in the baroque era, if not lower. As time went on, however, orchestras would gradually tune sharper, in order to sound relatively "brighter".
Quite Honestly If Bach was alive & got the chance to listen to every single performance of his works on RUclips. He will not find one! Not one that he will approve of. It would cause him to become so annoyed & angry to the point where he’d ignore listening to every single one of his performances altogether. In fact this would cause him to make his own RUclips channel where he performs & conducts all his music. Telling the entire Bach community worldwide. “THIS” is how you all should perform my music from now on!
So touching so reviving. I feel as if my soul has gone through redemption, and been raised up to Heaven with this music. This performance bring Bach's Great Faith and Music to people on Earth. Thank you so much.
Just wonderful. As Beethoven said:”That’s not a brook (Bach) but an ocean!” Great music record beautifully and I love the choir’s energy and movement. and Bach’s polyphonic long lines.
I saw my first performance in 1991 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lansing Michigan done by the MSU choral and orchestra...I have been hooked to this piece ever since.
When I was growing up, there seemed to be a clear majority who felt that Beethoven's 9th was the greatest piece of music ever written. It is remarkable to me how within my lifetime attitudes have completely shifted, as the Mass in B minor is now recognized (properly in my opinion) as the greatest piece of music ever written. People seem to have rediscovered the greatness of Bach for at least the third time in history. And with the benefit of the highest quality recording technologies available. This era is truly a special time to be a fan of Bach.
Whenever listening to this astounding composition I always have the Luks interepretation in the back of my mind. While Luks is more like fireworks, this one draws the lyricism out more, more like a prayer. I really like it 🎉. Is there a CD recording of it?
The St. Matthew -Passion and the mass in b-minor, composed by the "Godfather" of music are the most genius operas, a human being ever has composed! Until our entire times I believe that this great music is almost not performable. There was the Munich Bach-choir and Bach-orchestra conducted by the genius itself, maestro Karl Richter. I don't know a better version than his way he translated this music to people.
At first, I was a little skeptical of the relatively fast tempo of 'Gratias agimus', but after the alto entry I was convinced - simply beautiful, without excessive pathos, and the speed allowed the trumpet cantus firmus to speak at a pace that was lyrical rather than merely ornamental. By contrast, I found the majestic pacing of 'Cum Sancto Spiritu' perfect at the start, although the conductor was somewhat overridden by the speedy violins & choir towards the middle of the movement. Still, I think his (initial) tempo allows the polyphony to speak clearly, and the harmonic speed does not suffer as a result.
Depends on what the focus of listening is. With the fast tempo, the focus is on the clarity of counterpoint and lines, and more musically stimulating. Slower tempo is contemplative about the religious and philosophical connotations.
Dona nobis pacem is FAR too quick! The text means "grant them peace, O Lord". You could scarcely draw breath at that tempo! All the beautiful melody and counterpoint lost - high trumpet parts etc. Really spoiled the ending of this masterpiece.
Some people have energy to spare. I saw a performance of the Mass in B Minor at the University of Berkeley, where during the "Hosanna" the young choir was positively levitating!

@@ricinro Or because you're medically untrained and physiologically uneducated. I learned in my uni nursing program that masks are useless against viruses. Masks prevent surgeons from coughing, sneezing, or drooling onto the site. In fact, in a two-month study of surgeries conducted without masks, there was a lower incidence of infection. And maybe because you follow orders without questioning. Thousands of internationally recognized medical experts have denounced masks as not only useless but harmful. Antoine Bechamp was correct, but Pasteur carried the day to this day because of his powerful connections. The good doctors emphasize the immune system. Study that. Those words are utterly accurate. This music puts one straight into the presence of God. And so as the last line of Hamlet says "the rest is silence."
Die erste Trompeterin ist einfach grossartig. Bravo👏

I disagree with you comment on the Dona nobis pacem...ever so slightly faster paced than what I'm used to but hardly killed the overall performance.
Exquisite! - but too much physical movement from the entire choir. Distracting, and a waste of needed energy.
Lovely performance, spoilt by the horn in "11. Quoniam tu solus sanctus"
Exquisite! But the excessive physical movement of the entire choir is distracting - plus it uses extra energy to move excessively.
