I was 12 when this was filmed. I grew up near Palm/Beyer. I was a teen in Rancho Bernardo. San Diego was on its way up in expense. I left this year for Boise. This San Diego is long gone.
I grew up in rancho bernardo and went to rancho bernardo high school class of 2013 so not too long ago. My mom left for boise (Star to be exact) at the beginning of the exodus in 2017 because of how down hill things have gone in California. I now live in Fort Worth TX as well
This was a cool video. Boy, seeing them old Gillig Phantom and fishbowl buses just bought back memories. As a kid I used to be on them buses all the time from 1988-1989 and from 1993 to about the early 2000s as a teenager. Downtown San Diego looks so much different today than it did 26-years ago. More people, more buildings, more traffic, you name it.
I also just realized that this was in the middle of a rare cold wave Southern California was experiencing at the time, hence the steam rising out of the sewer @ 5:53.
I was 4 years old in 1990!. Ive always wondered what downtown san diego looked like in the 90s. Being in east county my whole life, my parents were always broke and boring as hell, I dont think I we ever went downtown. I didnt go downtown until I was a teenager in the early 2000s when I started driving. Its seems pretty much the same as it is now. Of course there are new rental properties that are modern. but for the most part its seems pretty much the same.
the ending when you get of the 5 going to Broadway into the East Village, that's my commute know. I lived in Chicago then. What was the East Village like in 1990, because it's not great now
Congratulations, amazing how a simple recording makes a great tool of history. I got chills and tears.
yes!
Do did I!
Living here since 1981, I was here this day.
And to this day, America Plaza is still the tallest building in San Diego. Cool to see it under construction at 3:49.
Orale yo soy de San Diego q bonito Vamos Padres!

This couple are probably in their early to mid 50s. And their kid is in their mid 30s now. Quite insane when you think about it.
Looks a lot different now.
