Thanks Chris for the honest impartiality but… What you hadn’t mentioned is the massive price difference between both p and t line it’s a bit like comparing a standard Brompton with an electric version and least in upgradability terms but at a greater cost to the customer of course I can here you say but wait the new singing and dancing electric p line now comes with a rectangular triangle this sounds very welcome right? we’ll kind of you see it’s all about tempting current customers with older heavier versions of their bikes to upgrade as well as keeping up with their closest competitors out there and there’s the rub because it’s only apparent after you bought the bike of your choice that you will eventually realise that the folding parts including tyres need to be constantly replaced every 5000 miles of so! Brompton has already factored this in to there calculations because the are hoping that there loyal or not so loyal followers of the brand will continue increasingly spend on its latest offerings perhaps the original steel equivalent will be as expensive to produce as its titanium refined brother eventually who knows?
Hi Christopher Ellis Thanks for the great comment. That is a good point, but in an other hand how much would we spend to make our Bromptons weigh 7.95kg? (T line 4 gears) I think the T and P lines do not replace our Bromptons, the lack of gears makes it impossible to bike touring or ride in a hilly City. I hope that with time, they figure out easier and cheaper ways to make the new parts. When we buy a Brompton is to use it at least for 20 years 🤩. Nice to have you on board!
Dear Chris. I have kept on modifying my now, less than 2019 SuperlightM6LXBrompton with more titanium and carbon parts so for now, still with my mudguards, as a "Rainy Dane", it weighs 8,75 kilo! About the same as a 4 speed T-line, of course also with its Mudguards! I will change the "Heavy Metal" clamps and holders on the mudguards to Carbon and Aluminum, and with a carbon handlebar, I expect to come somewhat below at least 8,5 kilo, and with 6 gears still! I have the clamps and 2 holders ready for my mudguards and just need to change them, as some extra titanium parts for my brakes, when the day of Summer comes! For now we have "The White Summer", which is better, as our heating is on! Finn. Denmark 😁
Hi Jazzonlp It is a great ride. Light and smooth. I hope they will make a lighter Brompton for Bike Touring, with no external gears and a 5 or 14 hub gear. That would be a dream bike 🤩 Nice to have you on board!
Hi CC Teo I had the chance to ride a T line, wich it is a complete different bike from our regular Brompton. I felt a much softer pedal and much more pleasant to ride. But it is hard to distinguish only the wheels feeling. It is supost to be stronger and lighter. And having a narrower rim is is a bit faster. Hope to be of some help. Nice to have you on board!
I would miss the six-speed. Not so much for the fewer gears but I like the way the sturmey archer gearbox changes without having to pedal. I like being able to coast up to stop lights, stop, click down, and ride off in a low gear.
Hi Falkiner Tim Me too! I find it perfect for cities, some times we have to stop without planning, and being able to change gears without pedaling is a must. My dream Brompton would have a 14 hub gear belt. No need of oil or cleaning the chain. Keep Safe! Keep Riding!
Hi DPJ On the P and the T line, from the description on Brompton site, they are using the same wheels and tires. Rear Wheel: Superlight Advance 1 speed wheel Lightweight rim, double-butted spokes and aluminium hub body But in the Brompton P line Photos they apear with Presta Valves and on the description they say it uses Schrader valves. Nice to have you on board!
Hi Gladsshey Neither. 😊 I love to biketouring with my Brompton, and the T and P lines only have 4 gears. Not enough for a pleasant ride all pack up. But they are beautiful bikes, perfect for commute when you are on flat cities and need extra transportation like trains, metro, bus, car... Nice to have you on board!
They sounded great until you mentioned twenty spokes. I wonder how they will stand up to our horribly potholed roads? The regular Bromptons' bombproof wheels are a major selling point for a lot of people, especially the heavier commuters, My own Brompton is the heaviest model available, complete with rack and dynamo. I haven't helped the weight by adding a second chainring for my local steep welsh mountains and I do find carrying it difficult around public transport, especially when I also have a heavy bag. Sadly, even if I could afford it, the T line would not work for me. I need gears and load carrying capacity. I still envy you having a ride on it, though.
Hi S. Richard This is something I've been woried about, the 20 spokes. But they explained: Front Wheel: Superlight front wheel - "Double wall rim, double-butted spokes and aluminium hub body" They are thinner on the midle and thicker near the rim. And that is usually the place they brake. But I don't know if they would be good for biketouring. We carry a lots of weight and ride in all diferente types of roads. About the test drive, just find a Brompton Junction near you, they are very nice and you can ride on any model you desire to try. It is a great experience. Nice to have you on board!
Hi Nora Halkefs They made great improvements for the P and T lines. I do hope that our C line receive some of those improvements, like the hinge clamp, the wheels, handlebars, and a rear triangle with more them 6 gears. For now, the P and T line only have 4 gears, not enough for Bike Touring. I'm glad you like it! Keep Safe! Keep Riding!
Hi Nora Halkelfs No worries, I also get confuse with all the new terminology. I like the old M6L names better. More especific on telling the bike type. Keep Safe! Keep Riding!
Would be cool if they release a bike with threadless headset like T line, but made out of steel. The price of T line is just too much for me. Btw there's rumors about G line is about to be released, should be very interesting bike. Also getting one in Ukraine is hard. There's no dealers. Trying to get one through a local bikeshop, they have their contacts.
A Tline with 6 speeds 33 to 100 gear inches. Would the the perfect Brompton. They should have made it with 6 gears. Either the bikes too heavy with 6 gears. Or light with not enough....
I have lately sold my top LOOK carbon racing bike, 6,8 kilos with a full Dura-Ace set, also wheels. As an old man of 75 I hardly used it any more (also to be seen from my weight), and my some what younger neighbor would like to buy it for a reasonable price. But I'm still building on my Brompton (LightweightH6LX) and have lately changed the holders and clamps on my original mudguards to new black alu and carbon versions, and even this gives a weight saving. As I have a seat post from titanium, I am looking for a new titanium stem post also and, maybe a new frame (old type) from titanium. They make "Brompton" type frames in China and on Taiwan, also made from titanium. As known, "Those who follow in the footsteps will never come first", but still it will be lighter than my original "Lightweight" version, and less expensive than the new titanium (4 gears) model! And I will still have my 6 gears + eventually 2 new gears in front by the crank. Some parts more and some less weight. Finn Denmark ;-)
Hi Finn Carl Bomholt Sørensen Yes, Brompton gives us a lot to think. We love the folding, but wich it was lighter and have a better gear range. I've seen some Brompton owners that replace the original hub for a 14 hub gear system. That is something I'll love to have on my Brompton. About buying a non original frame, it could be risky. Keep Safe! Keep Riding!
@@ChrisbyBike They do make titanium frames in several versions, also in South Korea (3/60?), I think, and some are only intended for small Asian people of a low weight. But I have a contact to and know of an English Dealer, who had connections in Russia, with a now mostly former, large military Titanium production, and they are/were intent on producing titanium parts, also frames of high quality for Brompton like bikes. But the present war makes it unreasonable to buy Russian produced parts.
@@ChrisbyBike A new, similar painted stem post from titanium and eventually a new, strong titanium frame for my Lightweight is a possibility for me. Mostly the stem, I admit, and I have found a dealer offering to paint it, like the original, in yellow flame paint.
I think the p line stop disc would not work for me, because i have my saddle alway fully out, and fix the backwheel with a velcro. So its realy comfortable, because you dont have to lower you back to grab the saddle and push it 👍
Hi Markus Wagner The velcro solution is great. But the new stop works in a similar way. We have to lower the seatpost just enough to touch the stop. So we can push the Brompton by its saddle. I hope they make it for the C line. Nice to have you on board!
@@ChrisbyBike yes i now, i saw the new p line already in a shop where i worked 4 months ago 👍 but i didn't test it how it is to push it with the saddle half way down... But p line is great i realy liked the weight because its so much different to my c line with 13,5kg
Hi M Lee A good option is to buy in London or USA and bring back home. It is a great bike, but very expensive because it uses Titanium and Carbon. Nice to have you on board!
