Running with Scissors was my favorite episode in the series. Hekapoo was an instant crowd pleaser (I love her design and attitude), and that ending with Marco realizing he had to settle into his average life after so long being a badass adventurer, pushed it over the top. It's an incredible level of depth for a kids show.
In retrospect, I've lost respect for the episode. Don't know how far along you are, so I won't say more.
Heh, the shippers latched onto Hekapoo almost immediately. Marcapoo was a thing within hours of the episode. Even I teased the notion of at least a mutual attraction. He did give up his old life and spent 16 years fixated on this one woman.
According to Marco's VA, the consequences of this episode WON'T entirely disappear.
He said that while most of the memories will fade, there's things he'll be able to remember or tap into in the future.
They're apparently going for a balance. Most of the knowledge is gone, but convenient traces will remain.
That's good enough for me~
After all, Marco hasn't been in a combat situation yet since this happened.
I have a sneaking feeling that he'll eventually start learning to sword fight again.
The memory fading thing is interesting. It was admittedly a lot to expect from them, to radically shift the character. But that's kind of why I was annoyed they did it. To give Marco more time in another dimension than he's lived on Earth, to give him 16 years of growth and maturity.... only to hit the reset button on his teenage personality.
Yeah, it's a bit much for them to follow through with. I still like the episode, and that comment that his memories faded dulls the sting a bit.
I'm fully expecting him to pick up a blade, use it, and then have a deep pause where he recognises that "this feels right."
It would be really cool if he mastered the blade again, but in his current form.

its a SUPER crazy episode!
Don't get your hopes up: Due to bad writing or an oversight, it wasn't addressed in the show that the "16 years" faded into a dream in Marco's mind; the show staff had a Q&A where that was mentioned instead. That is why several has lost respect for that episode.
Star's scissors were marked with Hekapoo's own name, so she kept them. Marco's scissors were fresh off the forge.
Since dimensional scissors can tear open the fabric of space and time, this must be Disney's version of Doctor Strange's sling ring. Meaning, it must require precise thought and a clear visual on where you want to go upon using it.
I think you're the only reactor I've seen who remembered that the wand reflection thing happened when Glossaryck looked at it too. Everyone else acts like Baby is the first time it happened.
As I mentioned in a text box during the scene, I've also noticed that no one else seems to instantly get the callback of "wet ceiling...?".
It was a clever thing to do, so it disappoints me that no one seems to be catching it. XD

You know, the concept behind Running With Scissors is pretty interesting; Does this mean that one could live basically forever by going to another dimension, living there, then once your old and satisfied going back to your old timeline then rinsing and repeating? That's something to think about.
Seems like it is a special case, Heckapoo dimension work like "room of spirit and time" in Dragon ball, but...all physical changes disapears once you get back...but your new memories stay with you. So the problem is...even if your body gets younger each time, still your brain will get older sooo... I think your brain would die before your body. What do you think about that?
Well, we don't really know that Heckapoo's dimension is the only one like that but that is an interesting take on the brain. That might be the case, but once again we don't know if his brain would deteriorate or if just regenerates and he gets to keep the memories. There are so many variables that we can't say it's not possible. But, yes there is huge possibility that it couldn't happen. But it's still a pretty cool concept, no?
Yeah, really cool, like in the song: "forever young" :D But remember one...if brain regenerate to previous state it would erase all created memories coz "those changes" are your memories and knowledge :D

That's a shame. A sword fighting Marco would've been cool. And I thought that the languages he learned over time would've been useful at some point. Oh well, it was a cool thought.
Rebranded? No, Marco's scissors were fresh forged. You can see Hekapoo doing it as Marco enters and during their conversation. As for the stolen ones she confiscated, we don't really know what happened to them.
I find it funny that literally right after the episode where Star can't levitate, she's seen levitating a ball.
At some point, Star's gonna have to spend a five-minute decade or so in Hekapoo's dimension herself so their relationship doesn't seem quite so effed up. ...You know, the thirty-years-old-with-an-asterisk boy with the harem of fourteen-year-old girls and ponyheads.
No spoilers, but...Marco spent sixteen years on what amounts to a video game quest. Despite hints of maturity at the end, he didn't gain much emotional development (as you saw when Star showed up at Hekapoo's). Don't expect huge change for now.
Speaking of Hekapoo's dimension--if they keep on wowing us with designs like H-Poo's Forge, I'm gonna require one of those "The Art of" books like they've done for MLP and Wreck-It Ralph and so on.

I also love how the new scissors have Hekapoo's flame symbol on it as a reminder of what he had to do in order to earn them, blowing out that flame.
I'm surprised people are over looking the small details of Marco changing, he's now more mature and chill, plus I look at it this way, Marco is playing the role of his normal self for Star and Jackie. He wants to act like himself around them because they are some of his most loved ones. Not to mention, this helps the Markapoo ships by having Marco still being able to go to Hekapoo and talk about what he's going through.
You know what a great idea for a character would be? A vampiric girl (that is around the same age as Queen Moon) that kind of resembles Marceline from Adventure Time but has a personality more similar to Maud Pie from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

And Moon is a lot more like Star than we would have ever guessed.

Nothing with the 16 years of Marco's journey yet.. Mostly a test to see how the viewers will accept this before they go forward with it.

Well Marco should settle back in pretty easily. His 30 year old body is gone and along with the 14 year old maturity he has, along with that comes back 14 year old hormones, he basically had 2 brains in terms of development, now mentally this works, cause he'll still react, as a teenager would to certian given situations. Marco should only have memories and maybe certain developed interests. Remember as a teen, hormones control everything

Star's scissors were Hekapoo's original scissors. So she just took them back and made an entire new one for Marco. And Markapoo is a fun ship which sounds more logically sound with the 16 years of playing Hekapoo's game. It won't be canon but still a good ship

Now we have even more people expecting Star to become evil, which in all honesty I don't think that's where Baby is coming from, she's just saying that Star has very powerful magic, I just don't see Star becoming evil... it doesn't fit her character at all, I suppose it could be her becoming evil and then becoming good again... but I don't think that will happen. And yeah they keep referencing Eclipsa, I seriously want a backstory on that character, that would be amazing
Yeah this was a mind fuck of an episode (excuse the language) Marco definitely has to change now, (which since you've seen the other episodes he has gotten more mature) he might be 13 or 14 in body but he's way older in mind, Definitely an interesting episode and Heckapoo is a great character, First Star has decided to grow up and now Marco is deciding to grow up, wonder what that means with the whole Marco/Jackie or Marco/Star story development, that should be interesting down the line to see. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.
I don't believe that the comparisons of Star to Eclipsa are pointing toward a connection through evil, but rather a connection through dark magic. There is a big difference. It has been hinted that Star is someone who can learn and wield dark magic without it corrupting her. Compare what happened to her after reading Eclipsa's chapter vs. what happened to Marco, or the possessed Ludo.
Also, some have pointed out that the magic that created new life out of that apple (the magical apple tree) looked like a combination of light and dark magic. Perhaps that was a subtle hint that dark magic, in the right hands, can be used for good.
Do we even know that Eclipsa is dark? We know that the Mewni people are prejudice against monsters, but Glossaryck, /spelling/? has spoken highly of her, saying that she was the only one that would let him teach the way that he wanted, and Baby now has spoken highly of her, it was Star's parents who freaked out because Eclipsa fell in love with a monster and ran away with him and because of Baby comparing Star being powerful like Eclipsa, her parents freaked out. But, as we've seen with Buff-Frog not all monsters are evil so the monster that Eclipsa fell in love with might not have been either. I'd actually be disappointed if Eclipsa was just evil or dark, instead of confused, or misguided, or even morally grey. I think a morally grey character would work well. And yeah, I've also seen the combined magic of light and dark. And yeah, evil isn't the right word for it. Dark and evil can be and are two different things, I meant to say dark, not evil, that was my bad.
Running With Scissors got retconned offscreen. Apparently there was some sort of chat with the creators where they established that the memories are fading/faded.
But what's important is that Marco's VA promised that this wasn't brought up for nothing.
Some of it will return in some capacity, but we don't know what specifically.
Luffyiscool I think my time as a mainstream comics fan has ruined my ability to trust anyone to handle retcons in any form, let alone (what appears to me to be) an offscreen one. The rest of my complaint is spoileriffic, so I'll probably mention why it annoys when you watch the S2 finale.
I saw all of the episodes on the same night, in the space of 4 hours lol
Oh. Okay then, my problem is that it seems to me like the people behind Star Vs only realized how much Running With Scissors would effect the show immediately after making the episode, and hastily moved to change that in a way that would still let them make a follow up episode alter. The episode itself did nothing at all to imply that any of the memories of those sixteen years had been forgotten, and in fact the scene with the password shows the opposite, that Marco had forgotten details of his time on Earth.
I mean, I get it, Marco suddenly being a thirty year old seasoned adventurer in a kids body would seriously upset the show's status quo (the Jackie/Marco/Star love triangle would be even more awkward, for one thing), but, if the writers didn't want that, then why make the episode?
People have claimed to em that Marco acting more mature is because to the writers are acknowledging this episode, but that doesn't really hold any weight considering that he was maturing as a character before the episode ever happened, and didn't make any noticeable leaps at all if you ignore that Running With Scissors ever happened.
As I said, my history with retcons is probably colouring my opinion here.
Running With Scissors was a great episode, Hekaapoo is awesome.

what a lot of people don't seem to realize is that the scissors that Hekapoo took from Marko are not Star's scissors ponyhead got them from the bouncelounge when Hekapoo left them Star's scissors are with her parents in mewney just look at the entro and you would see star's dad holding her scissors so yea. star still has a pair of scissors and now so does Marko
Those scissors in the intro aren't Star's scissors, they're her parent's scissors.
River was the one who opened the portal in episode 1, using his own scissors.
There is nothing to suggest that they belonged to Star. In fact, that pair back home was probably legitimately earned by River (he's got the heart and vigour of a warrior after all) and they're likely forged in his name (which is why he's the one shown using them).
Then Ponyhead showed up with the scissors she stole from Hekapoo, and at the end of the episode Ponyhead gave those scissors to Star. That pair was used by Star up until the moment Marco borrowed them and Hekapoo took them away.
So currently there are two pairs of scissors. One of them belongs to Marco, the other belongs to Star's parents, if not River specifically.
My friend, I have to correct some of your reviewing of this episode, specifically the one "running with scissors". You made a mistake of saying that the one Star started around with before she lost it was hers. We learned in this episode that the ones that Star had, weren't Star's at all--PonyHead stole a pair of Dimension Scissors that originally were owned by Heckapoo.
Now we know that Marco legitimately earned and now owns his personal set of Dimension Scissors--hell his name is on them. And we can assume that once Heckapoo 'lost' (i.e stolen) her original pair of Scissors, she just made a new pair for herself.
Everything else is spot on. Just that point was the only thing I noticed was incorrect, but in the end, I'm pretty sure you corrected the minor mistake. No harm, no foul.
EDIT: I'm attempted to report a mistake, and ironically I've made one--it seems Heckapoo didn't just make a new pair of Scissors with her name on them, she took them from Marco once he fell in her dimension. She even showed him that the pair he was holding was hers with her name on them.

You know what I wish? I wish they would make an episode when Star and Marco travel to a dimension that is inhabited by dinosaurs and other extinct animals. And I wish They would make an episode that takes place back on Earth where Jackie Lynn Thomas somehow falls under a curse that turns her into a tyrannosaurus rex every time she loses her temper.

Baby isn't the only time the show draws parallels between river/moon marco/star. See game of flags where star says she and marco are their own team (meaning their own family) as well as moon/star realize how stupid the game is while river/marco enjoy it.
Marco, Hekapoo, and Janna are my three favorite characters in this show and makeup my favorite ships (Marco&Hekapoo and Marco&Janna).
this was a great episode for marco and I also thought baby was one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. heckapoo is also really cool. hopefully in season 3 marcos mental age at least sort of comes back, but I won't complain I've it doesn't.

Here's a big question I have about Star. Why, exactly is it called a "secret" closet? When all that she has in there is random garbage she finds around town?
It's personal secrets or items belonging to her.
That's why most of the stuff in there has magical properties,
and why there's Marco's beard hair, a photo of Tom, a personal journal, etc in there.
It's not random garbage, it's personal stuff she purposely put in there to keep secret or stored away.
I remember the journal but in the one episode. There was like, a jar filled with insects and some random plushies.

Luffy, I got an idea for your next Pony Shenanigans. Remember that scene from DBZA where the Ginyu Force arrives on King Kai's planet? Replace the Ginyu Force with the Changelings both new and old design and Tien and Chaostu(sorry for my spelling) with Starlight and Trixie.

Right now it seems like her Mom was going to take her on the run.
The kingdom is revolting after being lied to and Toffee is hunting her down.
So season 3 might show us them moving around Mewni and trying to lay low until something goes wrong or Marco finds them, whichever happens first.
Well, without Hekapoo, who promised to look after her, my thought would be Nachos would try and find Marco.
As for Star and Moon on the run, I think that would be great-- perhaps a good place to hide out would be with Ludo's parents-- I mean, Toffee isn't likely to look there any time soon.

Callbacks like that ARE technically references. No one ever said you couldn't reference yourself.
Running with scissors was a disappointment
ELIte squad you don't see the subtle changes. the episode wasn't a season premiere or finale, so I didnt expect much from it. but its my favorite episode out there. the changes to Marco are there. his tone of voice has changed, he looks at challenges differently, he's more open in his relationship, and he now sometimes acts like he IS an adult, giving some life lessons about life (like in The Bounce Lounge). another thing is that in Marco live chats (anything said in there's canon) he said the memories ARE fading a little, but he remembers the important things. I wouldn't be suprised if he has forgotten about the monks after all that time. In short. don't expect HUGE changes to characters in normal episodes (he did change a lot tho)
