  • THE GRAYL WATER BOTTLE IS A GREAT WAY TO FILTER WATER IN THE OUTDOORS. IN A RECENT VIDEO OF MINE I SHOWED A COOK SET I HAD GATHERED TO MAKE THE GRAYL WATER BOTTLE FUNCTION MUCH LIKE A U.S. ARMY CANTEEN CUP COOKING SET. HAVING A WATER BOTTLE SET THAT CAN ALSO DO DUTY AS A HIKING COOK SET IS A BIG PLUS. I COMBINES A WATER BOTTLE CARRIER FROM STICHEDGEAR.COM A STANLEY COOK POT WITH FOLDING HANDLE PLUS A UCO TITANIUM SPORK TO FORM MY COOK SET.

    The little bugs that you had in the beginning got worked out really nice! Well done Blackie. The re-lacing and the cord lock over the mouth of the water bottle were perfect.

    Oh yes, I enjoyed the video. Love hearing an experienced outdoorsman and will be waiting for the next video. I'm on vacation at a condo but found a nice small patch of trees and drinking cowboy coffee after it rainfall night. Just about time to back to room, though. These no see'ums are eating me alive.

    Grayl should just make the outer sleeve out of metal and you could boil water in that.

    Blackie, that's all well and good, but when you dip the outer part of your Grayl bottle into a polluted water source to fill it before you press it, how do you keep the contaminants from that water from getting inside your stainless cup when you slide one into the other to store it all? Won't the "bugs" on the outside of the Grayl end up on the inside of your stainless cup? If you don't boil your cup before you use it the next time, won't it have "bugs" in it from the last time you nested the two? I think some of you guys are not being as mindful about cross-contaminating as you should be when advising on using filters and purifiers. If you dedicate the steel cup to boiling it's not a problem, but if you just fill it and drink from it you could get sick. See what I mean?

    Cool water most all the time. I reckon you'll have a second bottle for more water, I know you will want more than sixteen ounces with you. Thanks for the video.

    Really nice set up. Just thinking about cross contamination as you will probably refill the bottle somewhere along your journey.

    A great idea that you have there Blackie but I do have to bring up one concern. If you are using the outer part of the Grayl to scoop up dirty water and then put that bottle back into the Stanley cup you'd be cross contaminating the Stanley with whatever may be in the dirty water. Of course this isn't an issue if you'll be bringing whatever you're cooking to a boiling temp of 212°F but not everyone does. Sometimes, they're just warming something up and that could contaminate their food and the next thing you know, you got a WHOLE lotta' running to do!
    Just a thought brother. Maybe there is some sort of barrier that could be placed between the two surfaces?

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  4 года назад

      you are correct..and i thought of that..since the pot will ( well at least nor planned on usein it as a cup )be used to cook in the heat will take care of the cross contam..and i have added a cheap up under and on the outside of the stanley as a drink cup..thats gonna be brought up in a future video

    Long time sub. Hello from Colorado! I love your approach to teaching us how tos, tips, and tricks for being outdoors. Your next video on what goes into a haversack is exactly the project I have spread out all over my room. I am retired so buying new expensive gear that is lighter, better, and takes less space is not an option with just Social Security. At first, I packed all I needed or wanted in my haversack and in my rucksack. This way if I put my pack down, my haversack had all I need for a scout. Basically a smaller set of items just like in my rucksack. That does not work. Extra knife, water and small container, cover, cooking, cordage, small IFAK, and coffee with snacks. TOO Much. Now I am thinking to keep the minimum in the haversack, and if going out to scout or hike around, go shopping in the rucksack for items I need in the haversack. I have also been researching many channels for a useful, sort of light, belt belt and belt kit so stuff would not pull my pants down. I want the belt kit to go with the haversack, and hopefully with the rucksack when wearing all three. I'm sure you see the problem as you say you are looking at the three items in future videos. I foresee the problem of the belt kit not fitting with the large waist belt on the large rucksack I have to accommodate my hammock camping gear. Maybe the Belt would have to be on the outside of the rucksack when wearing the rucksack. I cannot wait until I can see those videos with your experience and knowledge to assist me and others with this issue. Thank you, I love your videos!
