The world needs more rescues and fosters like you who are passionate about small mammal care. Sadly it’s almost impossible to completely stop neglect, abuse, abandonment, etc. The best we can do is increase education about proper care, create more organizations to helping people with pet care through unforeseen circumstances and create more resources & fosters to help these little guys
@@Clov33 My comment isn’t directed at any specific individual :) Sadly small mammal abuse is somewhat common. Same with neglect. A lot of it’s unintentional though. There’s so much bad information online and many people don’t know any better… I added that last part because it’s important that we don’t shame or put people down about this. It’s better to have a compassionate and kind approach. It does boil my blood when people purposely abuse and/neglect animals but if it’s unintentional it’s extremely important to be kind, respectful and calm when educating them :) *Aggression won’t solve anything and may put that animal’s wellbeing at further risk by causing the owner to not listen and avoid the educator completely* Sorry this is so long 😅 I tend to ramble on (pretty sure that’s what it’s called?)
I was so saddened to hear about s***icde rates for people in rescues. My heart goes out to all, it is admirable and tireless work. I hope you can get some rest in between all the hard work you do. Thank you for being a voice for the little ones so many neglect. I'll definitely be donating as I can. I'm in CA so I'll also be donating to the CA hamster rescue as I'm able to 💙
Suicide rates are high amongst veterinarians as well. Animal people feel overwhelmed in a world full of people who don't care. I worked in a petshop for 13 years. Sadly, I understand why.
Sadly that doesn't surprise me because with every rescue it just seems to get worse, it never gets better, you save one animal and manage to adopt it to someone and then two more immidiatly comes in, there is never enough space and never time to rest and take care of yourself, which is the most important thing to not forget if you have a rescue that your own needs comes first, you can't save and help the animals if you get sick. You see real evil and the worst of people too, it feels like you're all alone and that no one actually cares and that you're never enough. Of course there are lots of wonderful moments too, I admire everyone who does rescue, it's not easy, remember to take care of yourselfs, this is a demand (I know many who neglect their own needs just because there is always another animal who needs them).
My hamster was from a hoarding situation and he unfortunately passed away from a tumor. I just wanted to say thank you guys SO MUCH for all the hard work you have done in order to give these hamsters a better life, you are truly appreciated.
Always super awesome to see your work. Here's a small donation. I appreciate both you munchie, and kayla. Every dollar counts for the livelihood of those little hamsters 💕💕
You guys are saints for taking them all in. I'm happy to hear that most are in good condition despite the inbreeding. It's wild to think 4 hamsters is all it took for this crazy situation.
They all seem really tame and well-handled, which is odd if the lady really just had dozens of hamsters overrunning her house. Hope they all find good homes
As a rescue in the uk I can fully relate, the stress the hard work it’s so hard but all worth it. The struggle with funds day in day out is a nightmare, always in debt with vet bills, a lot of people just don’t realise how hard it is. I wish I could help but I live in Utah and can't come up to Washington. We're also on a super tight fixed income with subsidezed rent after being homeless for nearly a year. But I'm with you in spirit! Watching you as you checked each hamster, being so sweet and gentle with each individual one, really warmed my heart. You truly are meant to do this. Rescue is lovely and Im frigging impressed by the ppl who took in all of these sweet animals - cuz to be honest my thought when I heard that there were hamsters free breeding in the walls my kneejerk reaction was: "That is pest control - gas the place!" and not anywhere near rescue
I really wish you were based near Rochester NY. My dwarf hamster passed of old age this Spring, but I knew I was going to get my knee replaced this Summer. Once I'm healed and can take care of another hamster, I intend to take someone in. My problem is that none of the rescues near me have hamsters now, or even tend to have them regularly. I don't have a car, so I can't go to the other side of the state, or to Canada, where I have found some. No luck in Buffalo, either, where I have family. Maybe someone will need to put up a hamster for adoption by the time I'm fully healed.
Thank you so much for all you both do for these little creatures. It feels like every small animal rescue around me right now is absolutely overwhelmed with intakes - I wish more people were as good to animals as you both are
My mom and i once agreed to take in a single kitten... we ended up with 4, all of whom were sick. It was intense with just that much.... i can't even imagine so many...
Wow. So many cuties. How in the heck can you handle them like that? I've had both of my boys for months and can't hold them yet. They won't let me and I'm terrified of getting bitten.
Sent a little donation, sorry its not much. Thank you for saving all these little ones. I myself take in unwanted hamsters as my pets and know how hard it is to look after 3 at a time so can't imagine looking after over 50 😱. I Usually take in eldery or those with problems, they seem to find their way to me somehow. 😂
Hopefully you get the certification needed and possibly fine a reputable live animal shipping company! I'm in ohio and always wanted to adopt from you bc I know they're coming from a good place and they need homes ❤
Shipping hamsters who cannot handle stress well, is not a good idea. Especially those under 3 months since their immune systems are still developing. We wouldn't advise this and would suggest adopting locally via Petfinder.com for rescues in your area.
When I worked at Petco, an associate of the store purchased two of the winter white dwarf hammies from the same litter and when she brought them home, one hamster had bitten the head straight off her sister. She found them like that in the morning after going to sleep. She was in such shock and distress that she couldn't bear to keep the killer hamster and tried to return her to the store. I knew what was gonna happen to that hammy, Petco/Smart doesnt 'rehab' animals. If they get returned for being dangerous or biting, they get killed and trashed. Unceremoniously. So i took that Hammy home so she didnt starve to death at the bottom of a dumpster on 110 degree desert heat. She was awesome, i named her Jenova and she lived almost 4 years before she got fave polyps that suffocated her.

Maybe someone will need to put up a hamster for adoption by the time I'm fully healed.
I really wish i lived closer to a rescue i would kill to volunteer
I wish I could get that black hamster. It’s beautiful!
Thank you so much for all you both do for these little creatures. It feels like every small animal rescue around me right now is absolutely overwhelmed with intakes - I wish more people were as good to animals as you both are
Thanks!
Thank you so much for wishing to help out. ♥️
@@MunchiesPlace you're very welcome!
i hope you get enough funds! thank you for your work!
You’re doing amazing
I wish I could adopt some of them, but I live in Norway
Hopefully you get the certification needed and possibly fine a reputable live animal shipping company! I'm in ohio and always wanted to adopt from you bc I know they're coming from a good place and they need homes ❤
Shipping hamsters who cannot handle stress well, is not a good idea. Especially those under 3 months since their immune systems are still developing. We wouldn't advise this and would suggest adopting locally via Petfinder.com for rescues in your area.
If I was near I would take one ;-; my little retsuko passed a few months back
Not me watching this from WA… lol!
😢😢 gahwdamn good luck yall
Oh wow... this is insane...
