I bought my 02 M6 Vert from Fox Chrysler Dodge in Grand Rapids solely on the CarGurus photos. Flew in from CT, they picked me up at the airport and drove me to the dealership. Drove it home 900 carefree miles back to CT.

You bought one of the recommended years 01, 02, 03 so that’s good. I have been shopping C5’s recently and learning about them, bugs and problems, a lot info on them out there. Key thing I learned is to buy from a knowledgeable owner/driver that is willing to share their knowledge and experience. Thinking about a C6 now and passing on the C5.

I also have a video on my channel on what to look for when buying a C6...

I hope you had it put on a rack before you bought it. Also I hope you got a good price with all the bugs and miles.
You are brave just buying a car like that and hitting the road.

Fun adventure! Reminds me of my C6 buying trip from Arizona to Illinois, which didn't quite go as smoothly but still tons of fun.

The previous owner probably moved the seat controls to underneath the seat because those control panels for those switches are known to snap or break off if you sit on the side of the seat.

I have a 1999 Hardtop w only 22k miles. 6 speed manual w Z51 suspension. 💯 % bone stock. Still smells new. I upgraded the end links to MOOG brand what a difference, it literally transformed the cars handling. Everything is tight. The OEM ones were made of some type of rubbery plastic material and they were worn out. My CD changer worked for about a week then broke. They weren’t supposed to be mounted vertically so go figure. Love my C5 , my first corvette bought last April. I did have to replace the harmonic balancer 2 months ago due to age, it was wobbling and screeching.
Nice c5. I wanted silver but mine is pewter metallic only about 1000 made in 1999 in this color

Your story reminded me of my trip in 1998 when I flew to Tampa to pick up a new Porsche Boxster from Bert Smith Porsche, and drove it back to Huntsville, AL. That was a fun and memorable experience. Hope you enjoy your Vette.

I've had my 1998 C5 14 years and have kept it pretty much original. But with all the issues I've had, which are common due to the age of the C5's. There is absolutely no way I'd drive one i just bought a distance. And especially as far as you did. Glad you didnt have to get her towed 👍

Also bought a C7 GS sight unseen but it was from a forum member who also had a transferable warranty. I did hire someone from Lemon Squad to look at it for me and drive it. Sent a bunch of pics that told the whole story pretty well for the most part. When I finally saw it in person, everything checked out. Have had it for a little over a year now and haven’t had any issues as of yet thankfully🙏🏽 definitely risky but there are ways to mitigate the risk

I am a HUGE fan of the C5 as I have owned 3. However, I could never own an automatic for that generation. The manual transmission transforms this car.

I'm amazed by the gas mileage of my 2007 'Vette. I get well over 30 mpgs on the highway. My 2021 STI couldn't come close to that with half the cylinders.

I have s 2001 C5 and only get 8.9 mpg but that's about 5 miles per day stop and go.

My 01 couple did a half way across Canada run in 2010....we were moving quick and at higher altitude... A few hours from home the check engine light flashed... as I was losing my cool, i started counting the flashes.. 11then no more light (there was likely a few flashes before i started taking note of it)... what the heck does that mean? Drove fine... kept driving... Called ahead to the next major city centre and drove into Chevy dealer.. long weekend booked solid... ok... so can you at least hook your computer up to this thing and let me know what you see?...alright... nothing.. no codes.. DIC was clear as well...to this day never seen again and have no idea what that was... any ideas?
