    Cool but very sluggish, those skids would’ve never touched the ground and everyone would’ve had some pep in their step

    We never landed like that in a hot LX. We offloaded from 5-6' in the air and we were boots on the skids coming in so the bird got get out of Dodge.

      We would unass that bird fast, once you started hearing rounds coming through the skin you wanted to get the hell off in a hurry. Those pilots had brass balls being a sitting target like that. My hat is off to them!

      Hueys only touched down for only 15 to 20 seconds - touching down meaning floating a couple of feet above the ground - before taking off again... That's some bad reenactment right there

      left pedal right role
      right pedal left role

    • @lilIAN97huh
      @lilIAN97huh 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@godsownlunatics9650I hope this is experience cause those things are 1 input away from falling to the ground nearly all the time. Not to mention mast bumping. Feel like the rotor would fly off as soon as you go start going inverted. But I've only flown them in really good sims so if you actually have done this I'd love to know how you counteract the mast bumping and possible RBS. Genuinely curious.

    • @Uglymug96
      @Uglymug96 4 месяца назад

      @@lilIAN97huh
      Weird idea I had but haven't been on DCS to test is I wonder if it's possible to keep the rotor loaded with centripetal/centrifugal force. Basically maybe you're safe as long as you roll fast enough

    • @lilIAN97huh
      @lilIAN97huh 4 месяца назад +1

      @@Uglymug96 In dcs that most likely wouldn't work in my experience. Nearly any quick movement of the rotors causes mast bumping. Cant tell you how many times i have quickly tried turning, rolling, or pitching up or down from aa or a missile and watching my rotor fly away while falling to the ground lmao. If anything you'd want to go gradually into the roll. Real life may be different which is why I didn't wanna call him out if he's flown one before. Now that I read his comment again it makes even less sense though. All the pedals do is control yaw or the rotation around the helicopters vertical axis. Pitch and Roll is controlled with the stick/collective (i say both cause utilizing them both correctly will cause more maneuverability). If you mean the barrel roll itself needs to be quick then I'd agree depending on if it causes mast bumping or not. Pedal input may assist in the maneuver but is definitely not everything you need to do. Now I wanna try out different things to see if it's possible as well but my hotas throttle broke a couple months ago. Don't wanna drop the money on a new one yet.
      Edit: Sorry for the essay 😅

    I used to run the ground assault portion of Army Aviation heritage foundation s airshow. The FAA will not let us jump off the birds until after touch down that's why you see the guys sittin tight until the crew chief gives them the go signal that he got from the AC (aircraft commander) Although it may or may not have happened at Ft Campbell once I still remember landing in a heep in some tall grass looking up to see the crewchief wearing a huge smile and laughing his head off.
