Hey buddy not to be a pain in the neck but, you need to remove the cage from inside of the filter. You are not getting the proper oiling that it needs inside of the element.. Turn that filter almost inside out to make sure that oil is applied everywhere, then massage the oil into the foam cells, inside and out side on the prefilter. Make sure that the base ring has plenty of oil as well to help with a better seal. Thank you.
Grant T Hey grant, no you will not damage the filter! I've seviced a whole lotta xr's. Removed the cage on everyone. It is tight, but they will come out. It is utmost importance that the filter cage is removed for proper oiling. If you don't believe me..... call unifilter. Just want to see that people are getting the correct and valid info. If people aren't sure, then they need to call the manufacturer. This gentleman needs to revise his video. It's not right!
dagwood519 I just mentioned that because a friend of mine had his come apart, and I heard a few people have had the same problem. That's all. Probably just some bad filters then. Thank you for the advice
You bet my friend. Tell your friends that Uni has a life time guarantee! I've had an issue before and they replaced it right away, no questions asked. Take care.
Thank you very much for the information, dagwood519. I just noticed your comment and will make adjustments accordingly. I really appreciate you commenting and helping us all keep the motos running in tip-top shape.
Just wondering where you purchase your UNI air filter, also do you have the specifications for the filter? I’m having trouble finding the proper one to get for my Honda 1999 Xr200r
Hi Matthew. I bought the bike used, and it came with the filter. I sold the XRL and no longer can look at the filter for any specifications. I think what you are looking for is part number: NU4117ST - I see them on amazon and ebay, but please double check fitment before purchase. I hope this gets you the air filter you need. Have an awesome day, and ride safe out there.
I would! Just so that u sure that ur getting as much coverage Inside and out. The cage will come out. The polyurethane foam has alot of elasticity to it. It will stretch. Act as if ur spray painting a part, over lap ur strokes, inside and out and then message with ur hands into the foam. Good luck buddy!

On that filter you do not remove the cage. Removing the cage will damage the filter.

thank you very much for teaching. Greetings from Argentina. thank you
I use to put a smear of grease around foam to seal it to air box ,,,
good vid, I prefer using liquid filter oil instead of spray on oil but this works too.
Good job

can i use water
Hi Drew. Use cold water when rinsing. Using only water will be less effective than when used with detergent. All the best!
