This song was sung at my wedding 4-11-1981. I loved it when I heard it the 1st time years before, and decided it would be my wedding song whenever I married. I wore that album out. I tried finding it for years, and finally found it at a music store over 10 years ago, but I don't have a record player. While reminiscing day I found it on RUclips. Listening to it brought a flood of tears as I remember my husband, who passed away in March 2020.
I spent the summer of 1975 at a Christian kids ranch in Mississippi. I had never heard of Pat Terry at the time and was a two year old Christian just learning to play guitar and lead worship. One of the other counselors turned me on to his music, I bought his first two albums and a couple of the accompanying song books. The kids at Iowa State soon knew about this guy because it's what I listened to and played for all my friends whenever I could. Too bad his music never really reached up north as much as I would have liked.
Songs of the South was my first Christian 8-track ever. I knew when I first heard it that it would be an album for the ages. I'll listen to it until I die, and I'll never get tired of it. Timeless doesn't begin to describe.
Oh I do indeed remember this. I've had this album since a year after it came out and it's been one of my all-time favorite gospel albums of all time, especially this song and also Home where I Belong. Well, heck the entire album is wonderful. Hope you still get this 8 years later, Anthony.
I first heard this song as well as most of the album on an 8 track tape someone had made of a few various artists. this is one of my favorite songs. home where I belong is another.

This was one of the most tear-jerking and soul-inspiring songs of my life. Pat Terry was truly blessed when God put this song in his head.

This song, Happy Man, made me cry 30 years ago when I first heard it. Now I’m 65 and it made me cry to hear it again. I love this song so much.
Pat, your songs made such an impact on my life. Thank you!

I loved these songs in college and love them now. They have style and substance.
Ronald Vaughan agreed. a lot of Christian music today is a few words or phrases repeated over and over.
I bought this as a part of the Word record club the year it came out. I played this thing until the cassette wore out. Thanks Pat Terry!
