Guess capturing the general gives you a 20% on the cleaner network progress? Wonder if he will ever come up again in the future. The cleaners in the current version are a bit weird, as I remember the ones in a previous version having some significant alien implants in their brains to justify the whole thing.
I actually like this better than the implants to be honest. If the aliens had mindcontrol that far developed and widely used than whats the point of them being suble when they can just convert one town after another to build unstoppable influence in both governments and militaries in realtive quick order. This way it makes it more believable that you can take them on as the aliens are forced to be more selective on who they need firmly in their back pocket. Plus i always enjoy a nice dilemma on ethics. The world is rarely black and white nor are most choices easily discernable as being the good choice. Make a call and live with the consequences!
Oh, is that what it did? I didn't notice that at all. Xenonauts 2 could really use some sort of combat or event log to make it easier to keep track of what's happening. :)
It does make the aliens look like smarter infiltrators since they use already existing organisations to do their bidding by controlling a few important targets rather than kidnapping tons of people and going through the bother of heavy surgery, help reinforce the whole "Xenonauts are unnoficial underdogs" narrative and sort of frame nicely with the new plot point of the genral being mind controlled so I do think it's an interesting development. Remains to be be seen if they will do more with it.
You made Puny stare down the General after their shield broke, and they survived! Also, Bloody Doves from BattleTech Advanced 3062 fame? You keep high company.
Yey I really like this game. If there will be room and no takers you can add me as another sacrificial lam. Roman, preferably sniper but doesn't have to be, I'm pretty flexible.
Fun fact (last I checked) stun damage and real damage share the same track. I think this means that if their current HP ever falls below the amount of stun damage suffered enemies will fall unconscious. You can ding an enemy with a pistol then throw a smoke bomb at them to get a capture. This is less relevant now and more useful when enemies are more dangerous and tougher.
Nothing fancy, just have to let me know and I'll add you! And be sure to mention if you have any preferences on soldier name or other character specifics. I try to accomodate where possible. :)
Finally getting around to this series - I've been busy with my own gaming (and work) for the most part. I'm surprised they didn't at least give names to the scientist and the director! I wonder if it was an oversight or something to be revealed in time ;) From what I've seen this has much more of a story than the first game.
I often give my Shields a shotgun to put in their pack (if they're strong enough to hump one). A little extra firepower to use if things go pear-shaped. In fact, I often give soldiers an M4 and a shotty (if they're strong enough), so they can engage at range and still have the punch for an eventual assault. Remember, if you slightly overload a soldier, he's guaranteed to gain a strength point after the mission, and a TU or two lost is not critical. And if you use up all a soldier's TU running around, he'll get an extra TU at the end of the day, too. Similarly, if you hit with a shot, you get an accuracy point. So it pays to have more than one soldier shoot at a target.
Like and great video.👍👍 I do not know of the world mechanics of the game so i hope at least for narrative pourpose it gives an idea: focus on having full control in the Mediterranian or have hidden buildings in South-America.
This was welcome surprise! I haven't played Xenonauts 2 since last summer, but it is not due to it being bad game... On the contrary, it is great even on Steam Deck!
That's a 180° lore change on the cleaners, before they had implants in their brains now they're just misdirected. .Interesting, guess that's to fit more with lien mind controlling important figures like the genral (tho I do wish they'd still wear the cleaner suits, those were cool)
i was disappointed with not being able to use shields and submachine guns because of how close they make the weapons to the actual stuff considering we have shield we can use rifles with
Yeah, like maybegive disadvantage since the SMH is twohand but allow it anyway! Aside from the projectile system, it takes too much from Firaxis' X-Com IMO. Like you can't pass grenades, they explode on impact.
Are you absolutely sure that they use NORMAL OFF THE SHELF ballistic shield that is used to stop pistol caliber when going against bloody aliens? Are absolutely sure?
1)are you sure that the full height heavy shield rated high enough that you'd risk taking it against aliens in this case is the same as a small light one handed shield rated against pistols that one can carry with a carbine? Because they're not. Those shoulder/forearm shields are more of armor pieces then separate equipment. 2)the SMG in this case is MP5. You don't use MP5 with one hand. MP7 is the one that is needed for that.
Ech, yeah, jumping into Milestone 3 was a spur of the moment decision because I needed some emergency filler content. If I'd realized it was going to end up being this popular, I'd have probably waited a little longer so we could jump into Milestone 4 instead. :)

39:15 - That's some weird grammar in that sentence. Half of the "either" clause is outside the parentheses, the other half is inside. If you omit the part inside the parentheses, the sentence makes no sense; it becomes _"Governments are _*_either_*_ deliberately suppressing knowledge of alien activity, leaving us no choice but to operate beyond the law."_ - huh??
