Hi Ben! Great job with those RR and Drake comparisons! I would love to hear your comparisons of Mouthpiece Cafe or Morgan mouthpieces. Is it possible in nearest future? :) Cheers!
I heard it this way : All of the Bergonzi models had the most equal timbre and resistance from bottom to top. Seemed like they made it easier for you to get to your thing. A pleasure to hear you play.
pretty much the same sound on all mouthpieces. As Dave Liebman aptly puts it, when out of your throat, the sound is already 80% shaped...then reed mouthpiece, neck and sax make up for the difference.
@@benbrittonjazz I should add that the audio via you tube flattens quite a bit the sound spectrum. I use an app : Ntrack that gives the actual spectrum of a musical instrument with all harmoni components. A physical measure rather than a qualitative/descriptive one. As an example my late Buescher 400 has evident harmonics in the lower range and this is not only a sensartion when listening: it has a warmer/darker sound than other vintage instruments I own.
Ben Britton Thanks, ny jazz 8 is my all around gig piece because I can do very commercial work with it as well as jazz but the added fullness in the slant works for me. I have ordered a reso to try if I don’t have to do any pop at all my slant large chamber feels good . Thanks again for all you share .
Sorry for taking half a year to get back to you... So, the Retro Revival pieces generally have more resistance and core to the tone than the Drake pieces, and I believe the same was true between the two reso remakes.

I've got a lot of projects going on right now, so we'll see...
I really loved the reso, very retro sounding
It is a very cool mouthpiece. I almost bought one!

Thanks, Bob. The Bergonzi models are very free-blowing for sure.
the bergonzi eb is the best of drakes pieces

That's a great quote. Thanks for sharing. :)
@@benbrittonjazz you're wellcome. I was lucky enough to be his translator in sax masterclasses in Italy for one week a few years ago.

I love his pieces. What reed are you playing on the demos? Sounding great as always
Thanks! I’m using a Select Jazz 3M Field.

@@zangsax My guess is you'll really enjoy the Reso. I certainly did. I played it on a few different gigs, pop and jazz.
Ben Britton Your right Ben . The Reso gives me a thicker core in the sound. Wish I played them as well as you😳
What were the main differences you notice between the Large and Medium chamber in the Son of Slant? Just curious
Hey Branner, it's been too long for me to really recall. Generally, larger chamber mouthpieces have a little less punch and a darker color though.
Ben, and my second question is: how would you compare Retro Revival Tru Res with Drake Reso?
Sorry for taking half a year to get back to you... So, the Retro Revival pieces generally have more resistance and core to the tone than the Drake pieces, and I believe the same was true between the two reso remakes.
I play a NY Jazz. Currently I'm using the Drake ligature, what lig did you use on this video?
Bob, I used a standard two screw ligature here. It was an old one with zero lacquer left on it.
Ben Britton was it an alto sized lig. The NY Seems small.
the drake lig is even great on other mouthpieces
Sorry for the delay. No it wasn't, it was just a smaller tenor lig, but it still was a little big for the piece.
What reed do you use on the reSo ?
What reed do hoy use on the reso ?
I used a Jazz Select Filed, which I basically love on every mouthpiece.
