In this clip, Vlad started off speaking to Kash Doll about Detroit continuing to get shine in the hip-hop world, and Vlad asked her how it feels to see rappers from her city blow up. She explained that she’s happy that they’ve never given up and continued to follow their passion, and Kash Doll added that a lot of Detroit rappers are featured on her new project. Kash Doll then spoke about being one of the few female rappers blowing up in Detroit, including Dej Loaf, who Kash Doll encouraged to get back in the game.

I’ll never forget hearing Try Me for the first time. Shit was so unique that most of us in the city called it trash. Bout a few hours of hearing it for the first time, a old Tahoe drove past me and my man’s knocking that song. Lol we both looked at each other like “yeah this shit might be hard” 😂 good times.

When Dej Loaf dropped "Try Me", being born and raised and Flint / Beecher, the first time hearing Dej Loaf you wouldn't had thought she was from Michigan because of her unique sound, like people were damn near trying to decipher whether she was a male or female because how well she rap / sang on Try Me, definitely a legendary milestone in her career, but as we all know, it's difficult to get your credit when it's due in today's society.
She forgot to mention it started with Blade Icewood, not non of those other people respectively. Vlad-Glad don't know. Culture Vulture!!!
Try Me is probably the only solo female hip hop track I bumped on the regular, shit was absolutely flames and a lot of people say A Boogie sounded like Speaker Knockerz but to me he always had the melody and even similar sounding voice to Dej and Boogie has a TON of people who sound a LOT like him now. She definitely should be mentioned more as she’s basically the queen of the “Trap&B” vibe that’s SO prevalent today.

@@jabroni7706 I feel like if I was tapped into Speaker Knockerz at all I probably would feel the same, Dej was just the very first person that popped into my head when I first listened to Boogie. When I went back and listened to Speaker Knockerz after I’d see the comparisons all the time I didn’t see it as much as Dej; but like I said I probably would feel different if I knew of him before I listened to Boogie for the first time. RIP.

I remember hearing Dej for the first time in like seventh grade. It was try me, then I heard back up by her & big Sean and was hooked ! Dej is super talented .

Facts 💯. After the Blade Icewood days and before Big Sean's come up, our city wasn't even fucking with our own artist. You couldn't really play Detroit music around most Detroit females. Now days it's almost impossible to find even spoiled suburban Detroit girls that don't listen to Detroit music. Even out of state girls be asking me about Detroit rappers and songs. Shit is beautiful lol. Detroit went from a D list rap city to a B+ list rap city in less then 10 years. We going to be A list with ATL and them if we put a few more artist on that world stage.
