Thank you sir. Off grid, new generator, 10 hours on it. 25 degrees, snowstorm, 25 mph winds, no power, co shutdown, generator outside, 30 feet away in the wind. Bypassed thanks to you, i have power and heat again. Thanks, Jeff.
Hey bud, update, just bought a brand new 9000 predator today, 1-26-2024, followed your video, new ones have a secondary component with resistors and diodes in the wiring. Put the black and white wire together and unplugged both the sensor and the secondary control module to bypass the sensor. Just an extra step for the new style!
Hey I just brought one I unplugged the one sensor so I need to cut the black and white wire and wire them together what other 2 sensor do I unplug I just brought this generator today.
@@damiannelson451 the wires coming from the sensor on the back go to like a rectifier of sorts inside the cover. I unplugged that and it worked just fine
For those who can't figure out their generator issue, this may help: If you can't find a vid that matches your model's colors, brown and orange are the same wire. Mine is a 9k and it was orange+black, and green+white. Orange and red were left alone. I've seen it time and again... If the sensor is the issue (which happens all the time because they are complete garbage!) It will start and then turn itself off after a few seconds. Chances are, even if you wait for it to turn off, it's going to keep happening. If it starts but keeps turning off, (usually accompanied by a flashing light) bypass the sensor. If it won't start at all, (assuming you are good on gas and oil of course) check your spark plug. If it refuses to start (again, assuming you've checked gas/oil) check your motor brushes/voltage regulator. As frustrating as a problematic generator can be, these are your most likely culprits, and they are fairly easy and cheap to fix. NGK spark plug is available at NAPA and other auto parts stores (under $10). To get the motor brushes/voltage regulator, you can get that even on Amazon (also under $10). To bypass the carbon monoxide sensor, obviously you can see how to do that on RUclips. You can also find walkthroughs for how to change the other parts too. Hope this helps someone. I know this comment would have been a lifesaver to me on several occasions in the past!
Excelente! Really good stuff. This worked on my Predator 6500 too! You're sharing stuff the manufacturer will NEVER share, of course. Much love and God bless.
This video is a life saver. We just went through a Cat 3 hurricane and my generator had the dreaded yellow light. I did the bypass and was able to get basic lights,tv,refrigerators and freezer back online. This fix saved me at least $1k in lost frozen foods
I have a predator 4375 and it has the same black and white wires to the starter switch. Did what you said and it hasn't cut off since. Thanks for sharing this video.
I just finished the by-pass, and it worked, yay...only thing I did different was cut the wires after the connection, so the sensor wires and not generator wires were cut. Thanks for an easy presentation. Now, my tank looked like it had zero clearance. I tried to loosen the bolts and move the tank over, but came back to the same location when I tightened the bolts. So what I did was place a 1/16 thick fender washer under that corner, and now I have clearance. Thanks, and have a great day
Thanks for the tip on the possible gas tank leak location. Just got one and checked that, already had scratched the paint on that corner of the tank. Filed that down and reseated the tank, plenty of room now 👍🏻 saved a large future headache for sure.
Perfect! Just got a 6500 and it shut off on me more than 10ft from the garage. Only happened once, but I don't want that to happen when I need it! Thanks!!
I had the same problems with my brand new Predator as well, bypass was just the fix I needed. THANK YOU for the heads up on the gas tank. I have a generator storage shed and that leak would have been a MAJOR loss if not for your advice. Many blessings
I appreciate your video. I have this same problem with a brand new 9000w Predator Generator. I didn't go to the extent you did with yours. Once I saw where you pointed out the CO2 sensor's location, I just duck taped over the holes for the sensor and am hoping that it works. If it doesn't, I'll come back to your bypass circuit, and post the results. In the meantime, taping off those holes in the back of the sensor is working for me. My generator is in the open air, so CO2 isn't an issue for me. The only issue was having it shut the generator down when I need it to be running. Thank you so much for posting this video.
@@Whereisclay In the end it did not work, I had to unplug it from the circuit. I had forgotten about this, your video helped me a lot. I use these generators as backup power on my off-grid power set up to charge my battery banks when needed. I designed it six or seven years ago and made slight modifications over the years as weak points presented themselves. As generators wear out I simply move the auto-choke over to the new generator. Thanks for this! Brand new generator here that won’t stay running. I even bought an expensive exhaust extender kit…still won’t stay running. Predator is doing this to avoid a lawsuit if someone does something stupid. Love the idea of just gorilla tape over the sensor, will try that first before shorting the CO relay. Where has common sense gone that we need this level of “safety” on a generator??? We must be getting really stupid in this world…hey folks, don’t breathe exhaust fumes, it will kill you. Done! 🤦🏼♂️
I am thinking using a tape to get around the issue as well...Mine is an older one without a CO sensor but thinking about getting a larger one like this. Have you tried the gorilla tape on yours and did it work? Thanks.
I'm going to do the delete to my 3500, it has happened a few times to me as well. Great video! Going to do the c.a.r.b. delete as well as a new ngk spark plug. I might as well drill and add a couple more small hoses to the air box that terminate outside the 3500's enclosure that will give it a good cool-fresh supply of air. I'll run for a short while and check plug for a lean condition ( light tan going towards gray). If lean I'll adjust carb a bit to get plug reading a medium to a little dark brown and that should help it to run considerably longer per tank of gas. Thanks for the tip! The Old Man.
Thank you so much you fixed my Predator 4375 I followed your video and it worked like a charm. The only thing that I questioned why the led keeps blinking no one has mentioned that in their comments.
Thanks for sharing. There is no need to cut the connector off. All you have to do short it out with the staple or something similar. This method you can reconnect if need.
Bought one today was doing the cutoff thing. I just moved the sensor to outside of that box and zip tied it to the frame.. working perfectly now , didn't have to cut any wires
Thanks a million. I've had returned three of them harbor freight knows there's a problem with them but refuse to do anything except give me another piece of junk

can you just put tape over the little holes that are on the sensor box. This is way too much for me to do. Now im worried I bought the wrong generator as I use this on my mobile grooming until.
Great video, my only question is after bypassing those wires I guess you didn’t plug the connector again, my thought that I’m going not to do any cutting rather I’m thinking of installing a joint clip
Has anyone tried covering the holes in the sensor to prevent exhaust from entering the sensor? Im a little hesitant with cutting the wires to the sensor.
Thanks for the info...Just a quick question...Will it work just as well if you put a tape in front of the CO sensor so that you do not need to do all those work and still not voiding the warrant?
Looking at the sensor in this vid...it seems to have a series of holes ( like speaker holes) on the one-edge of the sensor. Would taping off the holes prevent excessive CO from accidentally tripping the unit?...or....does it NEED clean air to enter for it to function well? If it's only excessive CO entering as its functioning...then putting silver HVAC tape over the holes may do the trick
Ive used duct tape too but you need a few layers. One layer dries fast from heat and exhaust fumes penetrate the tape. Im doing what you did now. They are getting so many returns now that the warranty has doubled in price!
@richardestenson7799 not sure i was so fed up i never tried i immediately went to studying the wires to put the sensor out of commission. Try it and let us know. Appreciate you watching!!
Thanks I've been having this problem and couldn't figure out what was the problem oil good gas good out in the open but just randomly cuts off and it a genmax 9500
How do I bypass the oil sensor on a Predator 9500. Plenty of oil in the generator but low oil light comes on and the generator shuts off. I've seen videos on many generators on how to do it except the Predator 9500.
Just to save the wiring harness. I removed the white and black out of the connector and used a female spade terminal to connect then. Let me bypass it without cutting the harness.
Just did this but not working for me. Generator runs for 5 seconds then shuts off. Stuck in my cabin with the flu, no ac and it going to be in the 90s, this sucks
On gas tank issue... Install a tri fuel carb ... then operate off propane (no shelf life no water in fuel issues) ... propane is cheaper and safe... On my Pred 9000 concerning fuel tank rubbing I used a heavy piece of rubber off the floor of my stock trailer... just make sure you wash the livestock calling cards off

If you have the 13000 tri-fuel I cut the wires (9 of them) in the middle where I could get some room and extended the wires 3 ft with irrigation wire so the sensor is nowhere near the gen. Can put it in a box on the floor and Co2 will never trip it again unless you really DO have a issue. It took over an hour and I have small hands and good dexterity so was not too bad, make sure you can get your fingers in there BEFORE you cut them. To get the sensor off with the stupid rounded screws I used a step bit and ran it forwards for a sec then Backward HARD and the screws came right out. After that cut where you can work on them and add as much lenght as needed to get to a clear air area from genny.
It would be ok if they offered the carbon monoxide detector as an option instead of as standard. Unfortunately they would discover that the free market doesn't want these useless features on our generators. 3 things that people do care about would be #1 better reliability #2 more power/cleaner power #3 less expensive.
@@Whereisclay LOL, I got my 9000 back in Nov 2022. I just took it apart and guess what! They must have seen your video because they rewired the whole thing into a relay. It has a 6 wire plug/connector going into the dayum carbon sensor that goes back to an independant relay. The relay then goes to everything else. Sneeky predator makers. I really like this generator. So I put it all back together and taped off the openings on the sensor. If it goes down then I got extended warranty so I will just swap it for another one. Just a pain in the rear if you know what I mean.
So mine ended up being the brushes in the generator were burnt up and melted which cut power to the CO detector which in turn kills the engine. Bypassed the CO detector and engine would run but not generate power. So after getting wiring diagram from harbor freight I was able to determine I had a bad brush set or rectifier. Opened cover and the brushes were crispy. Ordered a new set and now I'm back in business
Make sure you follow the video and the wires I specified if not you will have that issue I believe if I remember correctly when I was trying to figure it out.
So a piece of tape over censor won't do it..? trying to disable Co2 censor on a Firman W03386 ---so annoying (I think I read somewhere that censor is triggered by lack of oxygen, so I guess tape won't do the trick?)
I picked the wrong wires, didnt see the stripe on the black wire...bad choice wires went to what can only be the coil then oth f hem broke off flush with the ideof said coil. NowI dont have any thing.stupid me!
The CO shutoff system is a critical safety feature which can help to prevent the risk of sudden illness and death resulting from the accumulation of undetected CO, which is an odorless, colorless gas impossible for the human senses to detect. The health and safety of our customers remains our top priority and we recommend discontinuing any use of this product without a functioning CO shutoff system.

Turns out you can unplug every plug connected to the co sensor guess what still fires 🤷🏻♂️ I wish I could post a video kind of misleading video. If those wires had anything to do with the shut off if you tried to start them when they’re unplugged it shouldn’t start but, it does… so idk I’m a just unplug the whole thing drag it out into the yard and let it run. Mine was going off for no reason. So I’m a guess faulty sensor
So wrong. Do not do this people! Just disconnect the red, blue, green and yellow wire connector. Promise you you can fire it up with out putting it back together.
Disconnect the plug for the white/black wire and jump the switch side with a paper clip or similar item and tape it up with some black electrical tape. If that solves the problem there is no damage in case of warrantee return.
LITERALLY JUST PUT 2 STRIPS OF DUCT TAPE ON EACH SIDE OF CO¹ SENSOR (COVERING SPEAKER‐LOOKING HOLES) AND WORKS GREAT... AT A TRUCKSTOP... SURROUNDED BY 300 SEMI TRUCKS IDLING IN TEXAS 😅
Cutting the original wire on the generator side is stupid. You just voided the warranty on a brand new generator. You should have cut the end off the sensor and looped the harness back to itself then you can plug it back in. Or even buy the very common harness plug ends from ebay for $2

The epa forced them to do it is what I heard .. but why doesn't harbor freight make a RUclips explaining why or other generator makers
So why can't we just put some tape over the sensor? Will that not work?
I have a 4375 generator and I don’t have nearly as many wires as you do.
Thank you for this video. Very disappointed we spend $1000 and this crap happens.
Yw glad it helped!!
My 9,000 is different has multiple wires, help need bypass.
Tried this out and it will stay running but now it doesn't have any power coming out of the receptacles?
Not sure you should have normal power out the recepticals
Same here.. ever fix that?
So mine ended up being the brushes in the generator were burnt up and melted which cut power to the CO detector which in turn kills the engine. Bypassed the CO detector and engine would run but not generate power. So after getting wiring diagram from harbor freight I was able to determine I had a bad brush set or rectifier. Opened cover and the brushes were crispy. Ordered a new set and now I'm back in business
Will it work if you just unclip it and leave it
Not sure
So why not slap a piece of duct tape over the CO sensor holes on the back of the sensor ?
@@polishhotdog933 never tried it.
anyone know how to bypass the CO detector on a Ryobi 6500?
It won’t stay running what should I do? It starts right up runs for a minute then cut off.
Not sure what the issue could be, what unit do you have? If it's like the one in the video it should work for you.
Make sure you follow the video and the wires I specified if not you will have that issue I believe if I remember correctly when I was trying to figure it out.
That dam exhaust screen is other problem also
Genius (thanks again)
Thank you glad it helped!!
What if you just cover the sensor holes with tape?
So a piece of tape over censor won't do it..? trying to disable Co2 censor on a Firman W03386 ---so annoying (I think I read somewhere that censor is triggered by lack of oxygen, so I guess tape won't do the trick?)
Not sure I was so annoyed I went to cutting wires lol!!
Thx for the tip
Instead of cutting why not just put a jumper in that plug?
Never thought of it.
I picked the wrong wires, didnt see the stripe on the black wire...bad choice wires went to what can only be the coil then oth f hem broke off flush with the ideof said coil. NowI dont have any thing.stupid me!
Thanks!
You bet!
Here for the 1400 series. Same sh!t different generator.
Ahh i see its the same as my smaller one's
The CO shutoff system is a critical safety feature which can help to prevent the risk of sudden illness and death resulting from the accumulation of undetected CO, which is an odorless, colorless gas impossible for the human senses to detect. The health and safety of our customers remains our top priority and we recommend discontinuing any use of this product without a functioning CO shutoff system.
Also works on 4375
😮😂
Just disconnect wires going to sensor
For those who can't figure out their generator issue, this may help:
If you can't find a vid that matches your model's colors, brown and orange are the same wire.
If it starts but keeps turning off, (usually accompanied by a flashing light)
bypass the sensor.
If it won't start at all, (assuming you are good on gas and oil of course) check your spark plug.
If it starts but doesn't generate power check your motor brushes/voltage regulator.
Glad that worked for you what I did worked for me. Not misleading its what I did that worked for me. Seemed to work for many others as well. 🤷🏾♂️
Just put duck tape over the holes.
Didn’t work runs now it don’t produce power
Man I tried everything and couldn’t fool the damn thing.
So wrong. Do not do this people!
Just disconnect the red, blue, green and yellow wire connector. Promise you you can fire it up with out putting it back together.
I tried that didn't work! Did his and and its still going !!!
Tape won’t work more than a couple times. Have to do the wires. Had dozens of these over the years
Cutting the original wire on the generator side is stupid. You just voided the warranty on a brand new generator. You should have cut the end off the sensor and looped the harness back to itself then you can plug it back in. Or even buy the very common harness plug ends from ebay for $2
They don’t inspect.
He is right they really don't inspect the unit when you bring it back. Just make sure you get the extended warranty.
5 different people get 5 different ways of doing something. Whatever works do it .Thanks for the video. Appreciate it.
So this will work with a regular wire nut as well?
