right now WH3 doesn’t have a sustainable level of quality, to act as a holdover in place of TW:40k. They would need to hire more AAA animators like Eva Seyoux who were working on WH2 in its heyday. This tells me they are working on 40k instead. It seems like pulling teeth to get CA to make a AAA-level investment back into TW:WH. It feels like it’s waning

@@tenaciousgamer6892 I think it could work quite well theoretically. Practically, they don't have the talent, inspiration or will power as far as I can see. The slow release pace and rather lack lustre content doesn't really demonstrate a great level of competence.
The real challenge would be in figuring out how to present the campaign map. Base on my experience playing Gothic BattleFleet and Stellaris, I've got to say, playing space based strategy games where the background of the campaign map is mostly a black space and or bright glowing lights is not the most entertaining experience. Even with all the warp stuff.

I am not so sure about the sucess of 40.000, since we have to remember that the people wo play Warhammer Total War are not just Warhammer tabletop-fans (or RPG). They are a significant part of the community no doubt, but we have also a lot of "traditional" Total War players, who were not that much Warhammer fans before. It is by no mean secured that they will warm up to 40.000 (some may think two big titles with similar optics and factions so fast after each other may not that innovative), and the Warhammer fans will have huge expectations which I am not sure the game will be able to satisfy (for example how you handle the whole planet-situation, did you include spacebattles or not which may be even more difficult to made than sea battles which Total War abandoned years ago). So for a great part of traditional Total War fans a Medival III or Empire II may be a better option which could generate a lot of income. How much Warhammer 40.000 may cost in licence I could not imagine but it might be much more than for a historical title, too (although maybe not so much less than LotR).
And as many I would like to see Warhammer 3 be supported a little bit longer than just until end 2025 or early 2026 to include Ind, Nippon, Neferata...

I hope your right that they would be willing to do fantasy side by side with 40k. But I imagine they don’t want to risk the two customer bases cannibalizing each other. I think there’s enough content for one more fantasy warhammer. Maybe not a true warhammer 4, but a mega old world that’s got plenty of breathing room. Also while the 40k fanbase is much bigger than fantasy, I don’t know if it’s as good of a fit as fantasy is to total war. The sales may end up closer to each other than one might think.

Yea honestly i think total war 40K is holiday 2026 and thats the ends of the fantasy timeline. I've been thinking a bit, but my assumptions right now are Slanesh dlc this spring, dogs of war holiday, end times the next spring then 40K the next holiday season. Something like slanesh/high elves/vampires(neferata) with flc slanesh lord, summer flc tzeenth lord, winter 3 lord dogs of war release, "legends/end times" with thanquil/nagash/monkey king with a cathay flc and faction reworks, then 40 k. I've always pined for a Bretonia dlc, for Norsca to get something, but honestly they are not big enough and i think their just going to hit the big factions that can sell and move on.

Everything might seem rosey at CA but I doubt is after everything that happened last year and the fact they have only released 2 dlc this year gor their money maker they won't be aiming for anything that is a surefire hit.
Though a historical sounds like a safe bet there are still factors such as dlc potential and potential life span of said game. If CA was still sitting pretty a historical, TWWH3 dlc and dev for a 40K Total War would be possible but with multiple rounds of layoffs currently I doubt CA has the manpower.
Remember they are still long overdue for replacing their current engine. Spaghetti code isn't going to hold up for much longer.
I do however wish they would make a historical for that fan base it just doesn't seem likely right now.

You might be right, but take a look at 'Star Wars: Empire at War'. That game came out like 20 years ago and could definitely be a sort of framework that would allow TW mechanics added to fit and work with 40k.
It wouldn't be perfect, but let's be honest, nothing will be perfect for the hc 40k fans lol

40k shouldnt be next, because it will suck balls. Its not doable with the total war format. And if they throw the whole concept away, it will not be total war anymore. Its a situation in which we will always lose something. If we get a lorefull 40k game, we lose Total War, if we get Total War we lose a good 40k game. And if its focus on modern 40k lore, it will suck most likely anyway.

They'd probably just make gameplay work something like a mix between TW and a Eugen game. They'll also just keep the TW title just for brand recognition. I don't really see an issue with it.
