Wow! Amazing piece. It’s great to see these amazing players in a different light. As for the author, it’s only a matter of time before our Meghan leaves for a national gig. But at least we can all say that we watched her start, covering our Eagles and Avs with the DNVR gang.

As a mental health provider, this is outstanding work to destigmatize and and normalize mental heath challenges and support. Good journalism and Elite leadership in the club!

Really great segment, thank you Meghan! It always felt that they were like this in the locker room based on how the treat each other when we see it, but it's great to hear their opinions and approaches with each other and themselves

Former college athlete here: It's easy to forget how deep success or failure runs for an athlete. The dedication and sacrifice necessary to make it is insane. So much of your identity and self worth is tied to how well you play. If you don't live up to your own standards and expectations, it feels like not only are you failing in life, but also perhaps that you've wasted it.
They're living their dreams, but if it doesn't go to plan it just as easily feels like a nightmare.

such an important subject! thank you for putting this together. btw you might want to find ways to improve your captions. they were off in several places, which might make it difficult for folks who are deaf or hard of hearing to understand.

Great piece! Thanks Meghan! It's nice to hear the guys speak comfortably about the open support system within their team. We only see the excitement and intensity of the game and often forget the mental strain it has on the players. I especially love Makar pointing out that there isn't any stigma about mental health in their team, and that they can talk about it easily. It speaks a lot about the culture Avs has.

Well done Meghan! An important aspect all of us have to manage. Much less under the microscope these guys are under. Mental health and addressing it should be accepted and normalized. And not seen as a weakness when someone tries to address it.

I’m glad hockey players (and other athletes) are taking advantage of this part of health care which is obviously needed. Years ago players would just suck it up and told to “be tough”, thankfully those days are gone!

Fantastic piece! I love that these things are becoming normalized in the NHL. Just look at Sammy G....since he's been back, he's been OUTSTANDING! More importantly....these people need to care for themselves...yeah, they make money, but it's not an easy life. Well done, Meghan. Thank you for this.

Go borrow goalie gear and get out there for an A division beer league game bud. be sure to provide footage and you'll learn pretty quick how mental hockey is. I guarantee you'll get absolutely shelled by high level players and leave feeling like complete shit. Man up and get in the net you boomer or shut your old ass mouth.
