    Thanks for watching! My apologies for the subtitles. I have some technical issues which I'm not able to solve to get it all right. There will be
    sometimes some missing pieces here and there 🙏 Please let me know what you thought of this video. Was it too long?

    My father lives in Phon Phisai 20KM from Mekong away, in a village like this, Thai side. You might know that Isaan people are very similar to Lao, they speak the same language, other dialect.

      @@Chai_Travel Don't worry too much about length of video especially when doing these types of adventures as they are so interesting and most people really would get right into it. 30-40 minutes about perfect and the content flows nicely. The Laos culture in so many ways appears to be just like that in Thailand and even the language there appears to have similarities.

    My wife comes from the Isan region in Thailand where the people describe themselves as Lao. I would venture that the folks over the river in Laos are very similar if not the same. It certainaly looks that way as small village life in Isan is very similar to this. It's a wonderful cultural experience as a farang to be able to be part of this environment as the approach to life is very different to what westerners are accustomed to. I appreciate your efforts. It can be difficult capturing these experiences without it looking like visiting a cultural park or a zoo of some sort. Respect for the culture is paramount.

    "Just want to share, at 34:26, the woman who accompanied you both to the market mentioned that the 1.4 kilos of chicken purchased were priced very high, at 150,000 Kip. She felt this was an unfair instance of price gouging, likely taking advantage of you as a foreigner. Bless her heart, I could hear in her voice, in the background, how bad she felt about the whole thing. Even though I was born in Laos, each time I visit, I sadly end up letting my cousins buy everything for me. I know that to you, the price may not affect the experience, but it clearly left an impression on her. Traditionally, men and women will not share the eating platform, and breaking that tradition is always a good thing, in my opinion."

    • @Chai_Travel
      @Chai_Travel  Месяц назад

      Thanks so much for taking the effort to explain all this. I understand wherever I go people may take advantage of me, not knowing the languages and just by looking different. One part of me wants to pay the local price as I see myself equally to whoever I meet. The other part wants to pay a price which benefits them more than usual, because it seems (in a way) more fair to do so. As long people stay respectful, are not pushy, and smile, I'm happy to pay a little more (to support). I love the fact we made it happen so men and women were eating and sitting together 🥰
