Hey man so for camping in cold weather would you recommend this instead of an air mattress?? Thanks !

@@danl878 I guess it depends on how thick the air mattress is. If you’re talking a five plus inch air mattress then I would go with the air mattress. If comparable in thickness to this and weight is not an issue then this is a good option.

Yeah the air mattress is thicker but tbh I’m going in oct and I guess it’s dropping to 20f and the air mattress has no insulation that’s my concern

@@danl878 Well that certainly will make a difference with zero insulation. This one really is excellent except for the weight. So if the weight isn’t a problem for you I’d say you will like it. It is definitely not as comfortable as a 5 inch inflatable but it is comfortable and is well insulated.

Comfortable? Maybe. Budget friendly? Also, maybe. What it isn't at 3+ lbs. is backpacking friendly.

@fortesfortunajuvat6782 I'm not sure where you are getting "maybe" regarding comfort and budget friendly. If you can share why you are confused about that I can help answer more specifically.
The only negative I noted was that it IS NOT backpack friendly.

@@HuntShootLive There are a number of off brand mats that are far less (about 1/2 the price) that work very well. The "maybe" regarding comfort comes from the thickness factor. I'm getting to the point where people refer to me as being older than dirt, so comfort is a big factor. That's why I look for much thicker mats, like a 6" that weighs 2 lbs or so (can't remember the exact weight right off). That 6" helps cushion the metal joints, pins, and screws in various parts and portions of my body.
As for the "maybe" on the budget friendly, that was in reference to my 6" air mat costing just over $35. Is it insulated? Nope. But, it works, even in the cold (at least for me).
Regarding the weight factor, I just misworded that part. I was trying to emphasize that point is all.
Don't get me wrong, the video was well done and it covered everything anyone would want to know about the mat, like the rest of your videos. I wouldn't have bothered to watch it if it wasn't.

@fortesfortunajuvat6782 Perhaps my issue is that I have tried more high end pads than cheapo. The only two sub $50 mats I've tried other than the Karmater were absolute garbage and not worth $20 much less $50. The pads I have cold weather camped with were $150 plus and sub 1.5 pounds. One of which is my personal go to for hunting trips. The comfort of the Karmater is equal to that of any high end I have tried, even my personal fav. The price of the Karmater is a quarter of what mine is. The weight is trash though. Absolutely not even close to being light or compact enough to consider for backpacking.
I hear you though and agree. If you are camping right beside your truck and have zero need to pack anything any distance at all, why not get an inflatable air mattress and be done with it. Which I suppose should have been an observation I made in the video. If you can't really backpack with it, why not get an inexpensive air mattress?
