Microphones used: Tundra Fino (a hand made micrphone inspired by m49), Brauner VM-1, Neumann u87. A little reverb compression and eq on the first version followed by an unprocessed version.

I apologise in advance for not so consistent volume levels! :D - i hope you find it useful! It is interesting that if you start eq-ing you will quickly find that the tunda takes eq very well as apposed to the brauner.

U87 had more consonant attack and the livelier interpretation. The Brauner is usually more of an ambient mic. The TG2 had most of the presence, but particularly when combined with the Brauner, the intonations seemed slurred as if there was slurred line drawn between the pitches. The Neve had a noticeable push in the midrange that allows the tracks to cut through dense mixes. It is also more sensitive and will respond to low level detail more than both of the others. Why is there no U87+Avalon combination in this demonstration?

Advice -> make shorter samples next time (we still be able to compare them a bit) ; something like 1s per sample would works fine. And of course it's great to make thing incomparable like mixing mic and preamp. Last : Avalon is really a piece of shit.
