Jim Shull pitch was taking a portion of the parking lot for Monsters Inc with a pathway through Muppets towards Monsters. He said the portion of the parking lot will also give Imagineers more room for future expansion. It will also help with crowd capacity having new rides instead of replacing them.
Lets face it they took down Splash Mountain despite the back lash, petitions and sheer waste of money it would be to replace an existing ride with more of the same in terms of rider capacity. It also took way too much money and time for a ride that failed to work on release. I can totally see them bulldozing almost anything at this point.
If they don't know where they're going to put Monsters Land then development of this land can't be that far in then. You can't just design something and shoehorn into a section of a park. You have to design the land around the space you're putting it in.
If Disney does replace the muppets with monsters inc the only way, I would be cool with this is if they relocate the muppet show and add it someplace else.
Great video, well put. I just rewatched the episode of The Imagineering Story about the era they struggled in the late 1990s, creating parks that were failing. There are several senior WDI people describing exactly how and why things were going badly -- priorities, culture, decision-making -- that is so relevant to the decisions being made about the Disney Parks *right now*. Suggest all fans go watch, it's an amazing deja vu.
I think that area would make the least amount of people upset but that path would cost the company much more money... so they'll probably make everyone mad and take out muppets lol
it's going with launchbay and animation, behind there is offices and a cast parking garage, plenty of room. All my friends who I worked with at Disney know where it's going
Ok, what is the size of the employee area? If they don’t want to demolish the employee area they can upgrade it but putting it above the Monsters inc building. I’m sure they are in for upgrades
I"m not sure on the size but logistically it would be a headache as those buildings have been there since the park was built. You would almost have to build the new employee areas before beginning work on the actual land. Not that they wouldn't but knowing Disney wants to do things as cheap as possible I just think they end up taking out Muppets area
I think Animation Courtyard is the most likely option (they can relocate Disney Jr potentially). However I don’t think Muppets is safe for long either and is definitely not out of the realm of possibility. Even if Monsters does go in Animation Courtyard, Muppets is probably next to go for a galaxy’s edge expansion not long after.
I do wonder if they expand Galaxy’s Edge and revamp that land… not sure anybody is going to care about another sequel trilogy attraction going into the land
They have the space, use it! Stop replacing existing items with new. That's not expanding capacity, it's just trying to take shortcuts to save money and "excite" the casual guests about "something new!"
Disney Corp would have the money to develop the new land IF they were not squandering the profits from Parks division (primarily WDW) on woke, failing movies and TV for the failing Studios division. And it makes zero business sense that Dana Walden is the heir apparent to Iger’s position, if he ever vacates the Bob Iger Corp. Praying for a hostile takeover snd thorough housecleaning!
The parks have been funding the entire company and if the parks start a downward trend it's gonna be some tough sailing for the company. I don't know much about Dana Walden but I've felt for years they need someone from the outside of the company to come in. The chances they find a Michael Eisner are slim though
The part that I'm furious about is the Lion King Splash Mountain for Paris second gate. As usual, we get bread crumbs... Still nothing new for the main park that has yet to see a proper new attraction since 1995, 29 years ago! And the choice of the Lion king version of Splash Mountain is once again something aimed way too much towards kids when there's a massive lack of high-tech more adult oriented rides in the Paris resort. The second park remains a half day one at best. There was great excitement when it was initially supposed that Paris would get a version of Galaxy's Edge and utter disappointment when they announced so little and not Galaxy's Edge. The second park could get SWGE, the Thanos ride to expand Avengers Campus and at least another pair of major rides or lands and then it would barely make the second gate a full day park. Frozen mini land and the Lion king ride are far from being enough to make people stay longer on the resort. If they expect visitors to stay longer and spend more just because of those 2 rides, they are gravely mistaken.
You keep saying "they." "They haven't decided, etc. Anyone who is an engineer knows, engineers don't make decisions. They create ideas. They analyze things. Then managers, in this case Igor, decides what will happen. Most likely the preliminary decision had been made. Maybe they are waiting for backlash, or maybe just waiting to make the final announcement. When i was in college studying to be an engineer, one of my professors told us that if we wanted to make decisions we needed to get an MBA after our engineering degree, because engineers don't make decisions.
When I say "they" i'm not referring to the Imagineers but Disney management and the higher ups. I don't know who is specifically making the decisions but my criticisms are aimed at them, not the designers
I like to think my company does. Not every fan is going to be happy. We reserve the right to make the change how we see fit. If muppets go, so be it! What a cool new ride it will be!
Obviously they can make changes as they see fit but people are also allowed to criticize decisions and people would probably have more faith in what is coming if they even knew where they plan on building it lol
It will probably replace Star Tours and Muppets. Never fear, Muppet Vision should be relocated where McQueen is so courtyard can be replaced with Mickey Mouse land.
I guess it's too much to ask that a multi billion dollar company knows where they are actually going to build a new land before they announce it... my bad lol
100% the removal of Rivers of America for a knockoff Cars ride shows Iger/Disney doesn't understand the product they are selling.
Completely agree

Agreed. I think it's clear that nothing is sacred or off limits to Disney management at this point
It should replace Star Wars Launch Bay and Animation Courtyard
That would make the most sense but it would cost Disney the most money... so they probably won't do it there lol

One would think lol

Always a possibility but I would be doubtful they would do that

Thank you and great points. I think we're seeing what Imagineering used to be is now over at Universal with thing they're doing
If I remember correctly, in 2010 California Adventure was supposed to remove Aladdin for Toy Story and that ended up canned because of the backlash
Ya I think you’re right. It’s happened before for sure
I vote starwars launchbay in animation courtyard.
I think that area would make the least amount of people upset but that path would cost the company much more money... so they'll probably make everyone mad and take out muppets lol
Disney only knows how to destroy.
It forgot how to create.
The best example is the recent EPCOT overhaul.
With the recent track record you're not wrong
it's going with launchbay and animation, behind there is offices and a cast parking garage, plenty of room. All my friends who I worked with at Disney know where it's going
Yes please
I think they could and probably should put it there but it would cost them more money so my money would be on it taking over the Muppets area.

i think that monsters inc should be at Disneyland Hong Kong it will look good there
Leave my muppets alone please.
When is it projected to be finished?

Exactly

Why not just announce fewer more thought out solid projects
Good question
Most of the ideas pulled out are over 10 years old.
I know. I said on our podcast that it feels like someone found an old Imagineering notebook and took all the ideas out of it they had a decade ago lol

Creatively bankrupt
But monsters, Inc. I vote muppets Courtyard ok josh tell Bob Iger the people lose

If they put it in the Muppets area I think Muppets is gone for good unfortunately. I don't see them relocating anything
Disney fans just like to complain - they never seem to be happy with anything.
I guess it's too much to ask that a multi billion dollar company knows where they are actually going to build a new land before they announce it... my bad lol

Maybe they do and just haven’t announced those details to the public yet
