JAMAIS VU (unfamiliar feeling with something familiar) could also be a clever reference to the theme: perhaps like a crossword answer you’re sure you don’t know, but in fact you’d just read in its clue?

16A and 57A were symmetrically disposed. MythBusters, of which ADAMSAVAGE was a co-host, often dealt with BADSCIENCE.

As someone familiar with Pokémon, I knew "Pikachu" immediately, which is what tipped me off. Fun puzzle.

You glossed over another themed entry: ERIEPA, clued in reference to Lake Erie!

It's always fun when a puzzle can get one over on you in such a simple way

What a wild ride. Challenging despite some very clear cluing!

I don’t know how you’re going to take this, but I was watching this when my 4 yo got out of bed saying she couldn’t sleep. Your voice knocked her right back out. So, thanks!
Btw I had a sense of what they were doing on Pickachu but I couldn’t believe it. It wasn’t until Adams and April Fool that it finally seemed real.

Is it a fundamental rule? I commented it on the Tuesday puzzle, but the word "eye" was in the clue of 27D and the answer of 40A.

It seems like the main rule is you aren’t supposed to have any words from the answer in that specific clue, with the exception of doing it intentionally like in here.
As far as in other clues, it seems to mostly be only uncommon words, so like if you use “the” in an answer you can still use it in other clues, but for names and such you would normally just refer to the other clue

Even better if it wasn’t edited by Will Shortz, gives a clue to the theme

the aloe clue answer was just aloe, not 'aloe aloe' - (not a theme answer)

You forgot to tell us that it was edited, as always, by Will Shortz. First time this has happened?
