First, huge thanks for covering the mod, and a shout out to Lionmeow for helping with assets and Myster for testing the thing!
Now for some developer remarks:
The moments the mod has you play through other than the starting house and the tower summit were chosen because they commented on Nikos cat-like appearance in vanilla
I decided to not skip the starting house I felt like there had to be SOME gameplay, even if very familiar, to make the last bit all that more impactful when you can no longer do the things you're so used to repeating.
The tower summit isn't skipped because it'd be awkward to conclude a loop with just a skip, and to signify that with every loop Niko is altered.
The mod only goes through the same world because at the end of the day it's just a short creepypasta we created in like a week for Halloween.
That is also a reason why the aforementioned moments are the only ones you go through, because I am NOT changing the entire game just for this gimmick, nor would anyone sane want to go through the entire game just for that.
The entire segment is repeated thrice before the conclusion because I had to include the freeware Niko sprite with the human ears, as it was what inspired the whole thing.
But if you pay attention to the dialogue you'll notice that it's a state where Niko isn't completely sure that's how things always were, being a sort of phase where Nikos memories are slowly changing.
It also helped amplify the impact of what I mentioned earlier, where you don't repeat the things you were so used to by now.
So what was it all for?
Just realizing a sad/spooky idea I had.
I'm happy with how it came out, and do so enjoy when people express the emotions I hoped to evoke once they're done with it.

Jesus christ this mod is kind of disturbing i mean think about it you just got stuck in a infinite loop and noone can help you. Hell you cant even help others who got stuck in loop as well things like these scare me alot.

Man this haunts me I'm not sure how long it's going to haunt me but it makes me want to fully learn how to code just so I can make this longer like the like each one is the entire game and also add more runs mostly because most because I want to give this a good ending so it won't haunt me any longer. Because man this is like someone stabbing me in the back with a knife that's made of electricity and sadness.
Don’t let it torture you, it’s fine to feel something from a story but it can’t eat into other parts of your life
You don't need to know how to code to mod OneShot on this level, just learn to use RMXP

@@2stral I can go on entire rant about this but because I have limited time currently I will summarize it into the dawning realization that niko went on the same Adventure 3 times becoming more cat-like in each one of them And doesn't have the memory of any of those Adventures until the end where it was too late with they only goal being to either get home or save the world just in the end to find out the Cat that interacting with her on the first run was trying to warn them what would happen just to find there self in the same situation but in the position of the cat and with no possible way to turn back but it will hit harder if you actually rewatch the video again and think through it just to see how messed that would seem rather than just reading this entire thing
*The name of the mod makes sense. Like how a caterpillar uses metamorphosis to become a butterfly, this mod shows Niko starting off as a human and slowly becoming a cat.*
So this mod essentially boils down to. What if OneShot was more like Off?
All it's missing is a big reveal that you were turning these kids into cats as resupply for space monkies or something like that.

I honestly want to say this mod is... stupid? And unrealistic.
My main issue with this is the mod completely forgets that all of OneShot is fated to happen and that The World Machine is sentient. It would literally never let Niko be stuck as a cat in sorrow because its goal was always to make sure Niko goes home. Not to mention both The Author and Player step in as the reasons this is even possible.
I really dislike how this mod just ignores how OneShot as a whole functions.
I feel like it's just meant to be a sort of playable creepypasta.

I know this was made to be just a creepypasta, but it could be a better mod, no offense. Like, imagine the adventures of cat niko, that in reality isn't really Niko that wants to stop the loop while having the limitations of a cat and fighting against the World's Machine messing their progress. That'd be cool, I could try to do it if my pc hadn't explode 3 years ago, bummer.

6:01 I write a lot of stories and have definitely put characters through a lot. I think he more just really likes Niko and likes exploring dark topics with his favorite character.
Like as an example, one of my favorite characters is Fluttershy (yes from My Little Pony). I like using her to explore how far the effects of isolation, anxiety, fear, and paranoia can have on a person/pony. While I haven't written anything yet with her (I'm working on it), I have ideas and plans on how I can explore these concepts in written form. Or hell, maybe even a game, I dunno.
Really hope custom maps for Oneshot do come out. They're not easy bit they're decidedly easier than doing so for something like Hollow Knight which already has a few.

this is not a "game mod" this is a MENTAL mod.
I haven't the played the game. However based on what you presented in the video, I think the issue is that story boils to "something bad randomly happens to the protagonist". Being struck dead by lightning is sad but it doesn't make a good story.
Most tragedies get around this by giving their characters a fatal flaw that causes them to commit a fatal mistake that cause their downfall. For example, Hamlet's indecisiveness leads him to not immediately murdering Claudius (despite knowing he is guilty), which allows Claudius to poison Hamlet. This works much better because the protagonist plays an active role in the story. "Hamlet" wouldn't work if you placed Wolverine in the role of Hamlet. However, in "OneShot Metamorphosis", the Child could be replaced by basically any character and the story would still play out the same since there was no way to avoid this fate.
I feel like when nico is a pure cat he could have like wrote something with his mouth to communicate or something, idk just my thought

Damn, this mod actually hit me hard, the vanilla game didnt give me much hard feelings but this is on another level, making an innocent kid believe that they have to save a world to go back to a reality that was never even real, just a hoax of their own mind, after trying to save the world they believe to go home but that doesnt happen, the kid is given fake memories of past which never actually happened, this time they recemble more of a cat form, they believe that they used to be real and thats how they always looked which was just a lie, after everything had repeated they become actual cats, but giving them sentience of what was going on, the kid who has become a cat soon finds the cat keeper, the kid finally understood, seeing all of the cats there, who have given up hope to returning to a world that has never existed and they just get used to a life where there is no meaning, seeing another innocent kid come down to the cat keeper, and seeing the cycle repeat, again, and again, thats the whole point in their life.

I don't know, I like sad stories, if the tragedy were to have a good ending then it's no longer a tragedy, & nowadays I don't see a lot of popular tragedies for some reason (main one I can remember that got popular was Scorn).
Maybe it's because tragedies don't fit very well with videogames? Tragedies are all about the protagonist's fruitless struggle against destiny, and if what you do in the game is meaningless, then why bother? IDK just rambling...

Hey Bossdoor, you seem to like all those creepy meta games! I really enjoy those too! I would love to hear your opinion on the game Doki Doki Literature Club. Just like all those games, they start as normal games of their kind, but eventually show how diferent they are.
Doki Doki starts as a normal dating sim, all the most cringe weeb things out there put in a single game. That is, in the begging.
The plot wildly changes as the game goes on, revealing that the game has more than just a "Dating Sim". Just like OneShot and Omori, it is very meta, and brings up topics that aren't very normal for video games. It also gives actual life advice, and how you can improve based on what happened in the game.
Beware tho, This game is not reccomended for children or those who are easily disturbed.

This game is very backwards, for the narrative to work it makes sense to start as base game... but then have the NPCs become catlike on loop 2 as you become less. On loop 3 they are full cat while you are full human speeding up the cycle healthily.
You can't understand or speak to any of the cats except one group which have the same realization except...
You are going to save the child. So from this point in the game you are given a warning you have OneShot to stop the child by getting to where they are taking the bulb before the time limit expires. A cat could easily make a child drop the bulb after all. This culminates in a race and taking a different route to the end with if you make it in time the cats help you get into the room where you confront the child and you do the most cat-like thing possible. Push the bulb out of their hands when they pet you.
This creates a much more interesting narrative especially since breaking the bulb is ensuring everyone's death so you saved the child but at a grim cost... but the child doesn't have to make that decision anymore. The game play section also serves to put pressure under the idea this is your one chance because if you fail you'll prove the other cats are right so if there was a future child you'll give up. By making it one chance there is now involvement on the player's end.
Everything is ultimately just as sad and hopeless for the people... but one less person has to die and what you are doesn't change what you can do if you try hard enough. Or if you fail... everything is just as sad.

where chara/frisk [two jaded people who hate the player/the angel]
meet Niko [someone who both loves and has talked to the player]
and have to work out their differences in opinion.
and depending on "who you pick at the start" [niko or frisk] the game will change based on that choice
and the ending changes based on your actions in "that game"
with "frisk" you play the game through "Niko's world", but fight like it's Undertale [bullet hell/easy hell] and you can either "kill or spare" everyone you once "loved" or "hated".
and with "Niko" you play though undertale but since the monsters think you are "one of them" they don't attack you and you just solve puzzles and make friends along the way.
both ending have one thing in common though.
Frisk or Niko whatever vessal you don't choose ends up dying by the end.
[because you not playing with them anymore and/or you chose another vessal to be with or you just killed them if you choose to be frisk and "kill" everything.]
also with niko they can hear about all the things you've done in undertale both "the good" and "the bad' from everyone.
it might start to shake their "belief in you", but though talking with you they will remain stead fast [determined lol] as your best friend despite what horrors you "might or might not" have done.

I’m gonna be honest, I don’t like this mod. Doesn’t really fit anything we know. The world machine that runs everything is doing everything it can to ensure Niko returns home. The Player being unable to respond to Niko only really happens because of the world machine so not being able to say anything to them doesn’t make sense. And finally:
The world machine cares about Nico. The whole reason the solstice route breaks the way it did was because the world machine broke down. Why? “Nico is upset.”
