    Thanks for this. My 21 month old sounds like he has something in his mouth when he says most words.

    My son uses all these, but I realized he hasn’t got down L sounds. Ball is Baw..and so forth. He’s just about 21 months old. Doctors want us to test his speech, but he hits all these letters and I feel I let him down by not focusing on the L now.

      Hi Jimmy Kirk, at 21 months of age, it is still age appropriate that he isn't saying his /l/ sounds yet. The /l/ sound usually develops by 4 years of age, so I would not be concerned about this yet as he's not even 2 years old. If you want some more information about speech sound development however, check out our comprehensive blog about this topic at www.kidschatter.com.au/speech-sound-development-in-children/

    Interesting to know, my nearly 21 month old is being referred to speech therapy as not only she can’t pronounce any words only “mama,dada,duck (her favourite object)” she just hums most of the time too and doesn’t do what I ask her to do like to grab her coat or hat etc hopefully she will be ok and it may be a bit late development wise but she understands words like head, bott bott etc she’s my first and with covid restrictions it’s even more frustrating to us as we can’t mix with other parents at playgroup near mine :/

    • @armansanthk
      @armansanthk 3 года назад

      Mine too. He can only clearly say mama and papa
      He talks quite often but the other words are not clear.. just baby talk.. like uwoh.. wa wa wa.. ha oh..
      There's no speech therapy in my city.. I live in third country world.. and covid-19 make us scared to travel to another city
      Would you like to exchange information incase you find something that help your baby to talk? If you're interested please mail me at skivanoc@gmail.com

      @@beckyndjemma I am from Bulungan in Indonesia. I hope so. I am quite worried because there is no speech therapist in here. My city is an underdeveloped city, it's not a big city like Jakarta or Bali, etc. It's hard to find doctor too in here. I tried using flash card and toys to teach my son to speak but he doesn't seem interested, he just want to grab or take the flash card or the toy from me. Thanks, you too. Stay safe

      @@armansanthk oh no :/ please don’t worry I’m sure your doing everything he might just develop late.. You can do this mama just a shame u don’t have much support in your country :/ we have playgroups in our area but they all had to close when my girl was 11 months and didn’t see anyone till she was 18 months just a group called toddler talk but nothing much has improved with her development, just have to keep trying it’s hard with me as I work too she’s not in nursery because it’s too dear she won’t get it free till she’s 3 most parents here in the uk get the 2 year funding unfortunately I wouldn’t qualify for that as I don’t claim any benefits :/ xx

    My 21 m old son says about 10-12 words regularly and in the right context but they are not pronounced well like please is peasssss thank you is “tay- ooo” . But now it seems that he’s plateaued and he doesn’t even want to try to mimic me and gets frustrated. Do you have any ideas for stubborn boys to get them excited to learn new words I went around the house and made a PowerPoint with pictures of every day objects he uses and the names underneath and printed it out but he doesn’t even want to give it a shot most of the time and he has tons of flashcards and he just snatches them from me throws them away. He knows how to ask by saying please and thank you but other than that he just points and whines. I’m a premed student so my time is limited and it’s just hard because his grandparents on both side just sit him infront of the tv or phone all day and though I’ve asked them to stop they won’t and I feel like it may be a cause. Any advice or opinions?

      What you've described sounds like it's more of a language delay as he's not saying many words, rather than a speech clarity issue. The best way to help toddlers develop their language skills (vocabulary), is to spend lots of time playing with them and talking to them. Use lots of toys and books rather than flashcards, as it's more engaging to use toys during play than to go through a set of pictures. For some ideas on how to use books to help develop language skills, check out our other video ruclips.net/video/biJ8VO2Aegk/видео.html as well as this one ruclips.net/video/UXXbGN1TI08/видео.html to help him increase his language. Hope that's helpful for you.

      It sounds like he's doing well with his words and it's good to see he's combining them into two-word phrases. As a general guide, by the time kids are 24 months of age, children who have typically developing language skills are saying between 200-300 words.

    • @KidsChatterSpeechPathology
      @KidsChatterSpeechPathology  4 года назад +2

      Hi Heather, at 21 months of age, toddlers with typical language development are saying around 100 different words, so if your little one is only saying "ma" then it sounds like their language hasn't quite developed yet. But it's not always just about the number of words a child says, it's more important to find out WHY a child may not be talking. Have a read of our early language development blog for more info www.kidschatter.com.au/late-talkers-should-i-be-concerned/

      Hi :) Is she saying any other words, or just the ones you have listed? We would expect a 21 month old to be saying those words and a few more, though they don't need to be perfectly articulated yet. Have a look at this blog here www.kidschatter.com.au/speech-sound-development-in-children/ which explains more about speech clarity in all ages, but I would also recommend you check out www.kidschatter.com.au/late-talkers-should-i-be-concerned/ to see how she's travelling along with her language development and vocabulary. Hope that helps :)
