Granted, this comes from the anime and I'm sure the story is well rounded in the manga.

Tokyo Ghoul :re anime was only bad because of the poor setup in season 2. Season 2 was meant to identify the real villains (that being Kano) but the villain got like 2 scenes. :re followed the manga, and very well, and in result was a great season. But it "made no sense" because season 2 had little to no development at all for Kanekis meaning and story, as well as the villains and actual story.
I disagree that :re 2 was perfect, the episodelong sex scene but then a bunch of unexplained powerups and betrayals and factions and showdowns… everything I’ve heard from the manga that they left out of the anime feels crazy to leave out. In season 2 they have kaneki walk with an injured hide for half an episode but don’t show kaneki injured him or the kaneki-arima confrontation. Starting at the end of season 1 when he didn’t start his own organization like in the manga but then still started the same organization is :re 2 because it was necessary for the ending to make sense. If they had followed the manga perfectly I think it could’ve been the best anime I’ve ever watched but all these meaningless changes and plotholes only in the anime really take away from the show for me. Still one of my favorites ever. Thanks for reading my TED talk fellow weebs…
