I had a tougher time with FFIII than FFV personnaly ^^. That said FFV is just peak in general, last update of Pixel Remaster allowing to disable EXP for a tougher challenge is definitly cool, gameplay in FFV is just the best the series ever had.
@@nesoukkefka1741 yeah I often compare 4, 5, and 6 to 7, 8, and 9. Five and seven have great gameplay but kind of mid stories, six and eight have bad gameplay and slightly better stories, and 4 and 9 have both great gameplay and story. Although now that I've replayed 8 I kind of think they just hired bad writers for like a decade lmao
Wonderful video. I really loved FFV. While I don't think this entry's characters reach as high highs as IV's does, I think it has a higher level of consistency for its main cast than IV, mostly because of the revolving door/fake-out deaths that game loves so much lol. I think your point at the end is what makes the most sense as to why this game is rarely mentioned by fans. Also if I could make a recommendation for videos in the future, try to keep an eye on your audio levels at the beginning of your process as there were a few moments that either felt a little quieter or louder through the video, otherwise fantastic job, keep up the great work
@@RamenStains Really appreciate it!! This was my first time recording in a new environment so there’s definitely some kinks to work out lol but thank you for the tip!
15:42 is the reason why I think the story is underrated. I actually think it has the Top 5 FF stories in terms of achieving it's clear objective of being a more light hearted adventure with a saturday morning cartoon villain and even plot.
Regarding Krile, one of the other parts that throws off the cast is once she joins, it’s Bartz and three princesses, which makes her feel like yet another of the same we already had with Lenna and Faris
reallyreally good analysis ! FFV's job system really does feel unmatched in terms of customizing your party build, mixing and matching abilities lets the process of mastering the jobs you want never feel like a grind. it's also just a nicely immersive implementation, it feels like all my characters can always take advantage of the things they've learned from each job! honestly my biggest issue with Freelancer/Mimic in the endgame is losing the visual distinction of the characters' job outfits; would have been neat to have the 'all passives enabled' ability apply to any mastered job, or to at least use their outfit, the base outfits are pretty bland :'). in addition, Mimic always felt a little weird, it's fun having more active ability slots but the lack of item usage makes it reeal wonky also, this is shockingly the first time i've seen someone really comment on the visual issues with the Pixel Remasters, from a pixel artist perspective the new character sprite are wayyyyy worse than their originals. they lack the colour and contrast that made them pop in the originals, and like you said, just messes with the visual cohesion next to the enemy sprites and GBA backgrounds
I loved my playthrough of FFV on my pixel remaster version. First time playing it when I did, and I cried at the end. I, too, spent lots of extra time with the job system having been a longtime fan of FFT, so much so that I stumbled across Omega on accident and beat it on the first try. Needless to say, the final boss didn't stand a chance lol. If you enjoy final fantasy and love the job designs generally, FFV is a must play.
FFV not having the bonus content is fine because they still have the 2 super bosses (which I never beaten yet) but i think FFVI the game really needed it's bonus content since FFVI WOR's strategy is basically spam with Ultima.
I really need to play more final fantasy games, I’ve only ever played 6 and about half of 7, but from what I have played I really really enjoyed. Incredible video!
With at least FF 1 - 6, the design philosophy of each title depended on whether it was even or odd, as in FF 1 , 3, and 5 were very 'gameplay focused' while FF 2, 4, and 6 were very 'story focused'. Case in point... job systems, weaker overall stories, emphasis on player expression/customization... all of that good stuff. Tbf, FF games post FF 6 still had elements of that, but nowhere near in the ways the first 6 games did.
Honestly, I'd love to hear your thoughts in Final Fantasy Dimensions after this. Especially after you put into words a sentiment I myself couldn't pinpoint by calling it "the last classic Final Fantasy game" I'd consider Dimensions to be an honorary and obscure addition to that category, and the third overall job system game with an ATB system. It tweaked FFV's job system further and made some revisions to it, while introducing some things of its own that I barely see anyone cover.
👀 I’ve barely heard anything about Dimensions thanks for the recommendation! I guess it makes sense why nobody talks about it much, I think FF fans tend to be extremely dismissive of the mobile projects (admittedly including myself in that)
The brightness issue you mentioned with the pixel remasters is way worse with ff6 imo. Anyways job system fun but Dragoon deserved something better than lance.
With Respect ECGblu, I must disagree with you on one point. I have the FFV advance got it before Steam took it out, and I consider it and it's Super Bosses a genuine challange! Plus this was the first FF, unless I'm mistaken to have Superbosses.
They definitely should've left the lead character's name as "Butz." One thing that always mystified me about this game is how the art is completely disconnected from the actual game. The manual has Butz as a white-haired twink in a tunic. The actual game has him with dark hair and a t-shirt. The women in the art are both blondes; in the game they have pink hair. Only Krile looks like her concept art. What gives?
Ive been playing the Pixel Remaster in German. It's a better translation than the English translation. Also, i named Bartz (horrible name) to "Caveman"...it really works for me!
@@Endarire That’s the point I was trying to hit with the conclusion of the video, it’s going for things that are very different than most people would expect coming off of FFIV. In my eyes it kinda turns the series around for a quick detour before FFVI would come in to truly elaborate on the ideas IV was aiming for, and those are generally the games that define the series reputation to day. It makes V a really awkward middle child!
Well. Sort of. Yes, I bought the entire series. But mostly for III, and V (and to a lesser extent I because I have a soft spot for it) I know I'm in the minority though.
Final Fantasy V made me fall in love with job systems, it's absolutely insanely deep.
I LOVE FF5! It's in my top 3 final fantasies
Two things: The Steam release of FFV is peak FFV and also the game is definitely tougher than any other classic FF.

I got way over powered in both 3 and 5, I think the one I struggled the most with from the classic is 4
This was my first final fantasy game, and I’ve never seen any videos on it. Keep up the good work! Great video!
Just found your channel and watched all of the FF and Metroid videos, really good stuff. You're really concise!
Excited to see one about FF6 (my fav)
Yet another banger... you've worked so hard on this so i'm so glad to see it done and wow, is it amazing!

V and XVI are the only FF games I need to finish! This has inspired me to get the pixel remaster out again

Are you're telling me FFV is the Emperor's New Groove of the series?
They definitely should've left the lead character's name as "Butz."

Recurring issue with the series, have you seen the original Warrior of Light?

FF54JF is such a fun time, and makes the game way shorter because a lot of side stuff just becomes unnecessary
Maybe I missed it, but how was FFV confusing in direction?
Thankee!

I am so so glad it wasn't released as final fantasy extreme holy shit lol it's not THAT hard lol
FF5 is another solid FF game. But the story was not as compelling as FF4 or FF6, and FF7 blew everything that came before out of the water.
Well, the algorithm has led me to another great content creator.
Just out of curiosity, and feel free to ignore me, may I ask for your pronouns?
These videos always manages to make me really interested in games I normally wouldn’t pay that much attention to. Great stuff once again ec🫡
