Me, too, on making your home your sanctuary. I'm really impressed by you. You are RIGHT about putting money away early. I just want to keep typing but I need to be restrained from writing on everything you say because you are SO RIGHT on it ALL! Keep going, Kate!
I’m 40 now but when I was 30 I realized no one is coming to save me!! I had $60 in the bank and zero savings and I was scared to death about my future. That’s when I became frugal and minimal and set up a weekly automatic savings plan. I started with $5 a week. That’s all I could commit to but the key was consistency. Once I had a few hundred dollars it was addicting and felt so good to know I took control of my life. Every few months after I got used to it I increased the amount. Sometimes by just a couple of dollars. I live with my boyfriend now and I’m in a much better situation but I will never let myself go back to that scary place. I just wish I started when I was 20.
Gratitude is a wonderful practice. We are so blessed in America, even if we are "poor." We are incredibly rich compared to most of the world. We have clean drinking water, fresh food, clothing, bed and a roof over our heads. We are blessed.
No is tricky for some reason. My family has no issues saying no to me but if I say No then the world is ending. I love it when Im told Im no fun. My family members could use less "Fun".
My issue is what happens when I say no to those not in my family--like people who are trying to give you some extra "assignment" that you'd rather not take on. I have twins and my husband was literally never around to get buttonholed into jobs supporting their swimming or whatever other sports they were doing. Guys, take it easy on the one parent who shows up if s/he has twins and please don't try to make them take on double the jobs because s/he has two participants and a husband who doesn't participate. Just saying. Whew. What I found as a life lesson is that you might as well not explain or try to justify your no because it never matters to the other person. All they care about is that they couldn't off-load more work onto you. So just say no and don't explain. Ha. Do I sound like I have an axe to grind?
Aww, thank you. It was a hard lesson to learn how to just say no and not go into a big soliloquy about why I couldn't take on that other assignment. Of course, this kind of no doesn't work on a job!@@smartypants1980

Thank you so much Kate. Your tips are spot on. I've never heard of vipon. Another frugal tip is to love your job. Whatever your job is if you make the best of it and be grateful, you won't have to pay a therapist bc you hate it or you hate a coworker. And keep your house clean. A clean house makes it easier to stay on track. I love the frugal community too.
Love your tips, in 2 years I plan to live in a high top van, ( my kids grown, I'm 59) so I'm saving and practicing living small so I can travel and follow the weather.
That's exciting Theresa! You'll be able to do whatever you want, whenever you want! Literally wherever the wind takes you! Congrats! That'll come quickly.

I am well into my retirement years and pretty much lived by your 20 tips my whole life. You may want to add to your list to start investing those retirement dollars. Some may be overwhelmed with that but it is easy if you are saving through a 401k. RUclips has videos on that too. And yes, sometimes the market drops, but think of it as long term. The easy way to invest is with index mutual funds, start small and just keep adding to it. Grammy has spoken!
Awesome video! It made me smile for a few reasons. First my employer (who I am still with 17 years later) started investing for me when I started with them at 25 years old! I probably would have started 10 years or so later too. I am so grateful to them! And I needed to hear the focus on abundance and what I do have. I needed the reminder. And I do love home. Love the idea of making it a sanctuary. You are so right ❤️
I LOVE being in my own home! My sister as a single parent has worked so hard for her own place with her daughter, we're so proud of her for it and what she's overcome. However she never spends any time there! It baffles me! I have to drive hours to see her so am more than happy to chill there (not spending money) and the cousins play together so well, it's all about seeing each other for them, but her instinct is to get out, all the time. As for checking your bank account, I do it daily even when I know I have nothing moving any direction. I think having it in the forefront of your mind is key to having some control. I really hope that I can pass all this onto my own daughter. They don't teach this in schools, (and I know we can't expect everything to be covered by the education system) but parents who are struggling in debt aren't equipped to pass on this life skill. Thank you again for taking the time to share what knowledge you have gained. Take care

Hi Bonnie, I'm in the same boat as you. I plan to retire in the next six years and am blessed to be receiving a pension. My hope though is that it will be enough. So that's why I'm working on a side hustle. This tips from are priceless.
I'm right there, too, Bonnie. While I don't have a pension, I do have some retirement savings. I'm just scared about jumping at 62 when there is that gap before Medicare coverage....

Love your videos. My nickname is Frugal Francine! I am 54 and oh how I wish I would have started saving sooner. I get a thrill out of saving money! Yes indeed know what you have before going shopping.
In July 2019 I purposely set up automatic deposit giving me savings. A friend once said every time I get paid I pay myself first. Because I have a small stock pile I don't need anything. That made it easy for me to save which in my case is paying myself first.
Hi Kate, such great advice, especially love the one about watching RUclips as ive learned so many great tips from you and everyone. Its so true to be thankful for all we have as well, especially times when we feel a bit fed up and down in life. It does us good to just stop and think about all the positive things and home comforts we already have. Xx
I live in a 55 year old trailer. The land is free and clear. The trailer has its problems. I am thankful and grateful we have a roof over our heads even if does leak on occasion. We have food clothes and warmth and most importantly we have a house full of love!
I've had to learn to say "no" to donations to my family. I know that seems backwards, but if my family isn't going to use it, then I don't need it. I had to stop feeling guilty about that because I felt, for the longest time, that in order to show gratefulness I had to accept whatever it was. To be honest, many times the offer was for things that people typically think low income families need (food, clothes), but I had all those things. Then I realized that it's okay to say "no" and that the stuff will go to someone who actually needs it.
I totally get this. I saved like a maniac in the early years but now I'm in my 60's and am STILL on the hook for our three kids' last two years of college tuition and all of those associated expenses like books and room and board. Needless to say I haven't saved anything in the last few years. We are self-employed and kick in a lot of money for the retirement fund of our one and only VERY APPRECIATED employee so she stays with us while not being able to put money in for ourselves. So, we are pretty much spending all of current earnings plus the college savings for them now. One of the kids doesn't want to resume school next semester but wait another year before restarting. I told him whatever--the countdown starts next semester whether you are in school or not. If yes, it is paid for. If no, too bad and you lost that potential money. We want to finish this school obligation and then we can focus on making our future happen.
I also check my bank account ALMOST every single day...but now after hearing what you do, I will do it daily. Thanks for helping me feel normal and not paranoid about checking my bank account so often!
My best money saving tips 1.buy good quality items, such as dish detergent.laundry detergent.trash bags. It will cost more at first, but you save money by not wasting your time, water, run through the soap or trash bags because they simply don't work. 2.eirher blackout curtains or old comforters tacked over the windows to keep it cool in the summer, and block drafts in the cold climate. 3. Make your own coffee drinks at home. 4.if you have a single cup brewer, get a reusable pod. Saves tons. 5. I get makeup at a discount beauty shop,or wait until holiday season, the closer to Christmas it gets, the cheaper gift sets are, especially after the holidays, because stores want the holiday merchandise gone. 6. Always go over receipts, bills, credit card statements, bank statements, insurance policies. 7.if you're able use public transportation instead of drive. 8. Cook . 9.eat leftovers. 10. Maintain what you have. 11.if you rent,go over your lease,or rental agreement. Especially if something is not working properly. 12.check the temperature settings for the fridge and freezer. They may be set too high or too low. 13.keep the temperature consistent. Maybe 60 degrees, year round. 14.if space allows, grow a garden. 15.learn how to break down and freeze food into smaller portions. 16. Shop what you have before buying more. 17.keep lists of whatever you are low on or out of.keep an inventory of what's on hand.
Popped over from Money Mom....enjoyed your video. You may not realize it right now, but you are teaching your son valuable life learning lessons. He is absorbing what you do every day and these things will help him become a frugal young man. Have a Blessed day.
Money Mom is the best! Thank you so much for coming over Margaret. I really appreciate it. And thank you for the kind words! Love this comment. Always want to teach my son all I can:) Have an amazing weekend. Hope to see you again soon!
I relate so much to the singleness of purpose you have in your life-raising your child. I was raised by a single mom; her values shaped who I am today. Bravo to you!!
Kate, you need to tour middle schools and high schools! One is never too young to learn good practices! I agree with your philosophy on budgeting & minimalism; it's so important & necessary, especially if you start at an early age. I worked at my first real job for 9 yrs not knowing about setting $ aside for retirement, but you better believe when I got my next job, I signed up! Many Dave Ramsey followers don't set $ aside for their retirement while paying off debt, but even if you put 2%, by the time they're debt-free, they're already ahead of the game! I LOVE your channel and your awesome personality! Recently subscribed!
Need Less! Thank you so much for subscribing and the compliments! Means so much to me! YES I totally agree that we're never too young to learn good practices. I'm even starting with my 5 year old:) Maybe a tour is in my future:) :)
Great tips. Money Mum sent me. I also reconcile my spending every day and I check my personal and business bank accounts every day. A couple of weeks ago I saw that that the transaction had been put through twice at the supermarket. What a pain to go back to the supermarket and prove to them that they had double billed me. I also recommend checking credit card statement to catch any fraudulent transactions.
YASSSSSS Angel Heart! That stuff totally happens and we get to catch it! AHHH! I'm so glad Money Mom sent you over. I'm so glad you are here. I hope you get some value in my videos. Happy Friday and hope to see you again soon!
I love staying home. I could never go on another vacation and feel just fine. My problem is my wonderful husband. He LOVES to go on vacations. One tip I NEVER see is UTILIZE YOUR STATE PARKS!!! There is usually a nominal fee to get in and you have access to all kinds of trails, swimming pools and a multitude of other activities that can be available such as fishing (no license is usually required), paddle boats, free guided birding and nature walks, biking....just a multitude of things for a small fee or free. It is just a good alternative to an area where expensive things are available. Fortunately the Hubby loves to do that.
State Parks! I never think of that! Great idea! Donnalee I'm so glad you are here. Thank you for watching and commenting. HAPPY HAPPY FRIDAY! Hope to hear more from you soon!
Money Mom recommended your channel. Love its content. My son is now grown but it’s nice to watch another single parents ideas. I was frugal out of necessity when he was young. I subscribed.
Lynn thank you so much! (And I LOVE MONEY MOM for sending her amazing subscribers! She is the best!) Thank you for subscribing and supporting. How old is your son now? Motherhood is a crazy thing. You can't even imagine how much you can love someone. Kaden drives me to do all I can, just by being him:)
Be grateful to the Lord Jesus for everything. Make your home a place you love to live in, yes love being home and entertain myself. Watch RUclips. Enjoy. Eat what you cook I freeze and then when I crave heat and eat. Compound interest. Started a add on to retirement fund so got double what other people got on voluntary retirement.
I like the idea of making savings a priority. The best way to save is to automate your savings. Then you don't have to think about it.. Another great way to save is the one dollar savings challenge. Save all your one dollar bills. It adds up over time!
Great tips for frugal living! I hate wasting food also. I'm trying to preserve my food well so that it doesn't go to waste. I also check my bank account every day. It helps prevent me from getting overdraft fees!
Oh yeah, loving ALL of these ideas & your tone. I truly enjoy walking my dogs. I walk and walk and walk....beautiful parks, amazing neighborhoods, downtown....free fun! I see also shifted my focus to USING the plethora of crafting supplies for mu hobbies that I used to compulsively buy at Joanns, Hobby lobby, or Michael's. I moved to a small rural town and do not have those stored now, so I tell myself "Use what I got, or why have it? Lord knows I don't need more." I quilt, read library books, cook and so yes, staying home= bliss! btw I'm a COFFEE W/ KATE junkie. 🤗
Great tips !! I thought I was the only one who checked my bank account every morning! I also check my 401k and other investment balances every 2 weeks, after I get paid. Just to make sure all the automated contributions went in, and to see the balances grow, which is great inspiration to keep saving and living frugally.
One tip, when you save receipts and find you have doubles of something or shopping remorse, you can often take stuff back. This way I get what I paid and any taxes back. Even if I get a credit it still keeps my inventory down, and frees up cash for better buys!
YOU TOO! OMG! I am a recovering people pleasure to. I think it is easier for people to learn to become kind than overcoming people pleasing! I love u and your channel and the little guy as well!
Oh my gosh, me too! Going to a bookstore (used bookstore!) or a library is like the BEST THING EVER!! Best date ever! Best time ever!! Unfettered time just looking at everything? Perfect! AKA, book nerds!
I am 21 and just found your channel. I set up my retirement fund when I was 16 with my first job. All most everything you said today I am already doing. Work towards moving out of my dad's house with my now 2 year old son.
One of the things I love about you and your channel, Kate, is that although I'm here for the content (I want to live frugally in a really positive way that works for me, but) every single video I've ever seen of yours, there's a cat wandering lazily across the background! I knew the moment I saw this that you were my kinda person! And that was even before you mentioned the library... :D
A super video! I do a lot of those things in my own way based on my personal circumstances! I will look at some of your previous videos! Best wishes to you, your child and your lovely cats!
Thank You for the great tips Kate. Our accounts are checked everyday as well. We are glad we did because we had ILLEGAL charges come out during the night. Unfortunately they got over $400 out. It did get replaced luckily. They tried to take out over $10,000 before that first. Yes unfortunately I had to get a new account however it was with peace of mind. We cut the bottom of the toothpaste tube off and roll it down and clip it.
Also, when you use a can good, rinse out right after emptying and take off label... save and turn in once you get several bags. It’s not a big return but it’s a little back on groceries and it’s not in the dump.
Kate, I too love you thoughts about making your home your sanctuary. I say you can have fun at home and it costs nothing. Movie theater, RUclips on the laptop, books, gardening, sleeping, organizing and decluttering. Cooking and eating great foods for cheap! This is probably the biggest "Frugal Tip." If you eat meals at home, you are not wasting food. If you are eating many meals at restaurants, you are throwing food away weekly.
Pamela! WELCOME!!!! I'm so glad you subscribed and that Money Mom sent you over. I just love her. Hope you are having a beautiful weekend and that you find value in my videos. See you more soon I hope! -Kate

I do admit having trouble with the not buying lunch. I am working on it. I just put 4 servings of chicken fried rice into 4 containers for my work week. Also, my kids are both really good for their ages when we go shopping. Once in a while they ask for something or point something out, but I've yet to have a tantrum BECAUSE I point out my budget to my kids and they're involved in it. They're almost 8 and almost 6, so they're still little.
Quick tip for bank account(s); open an account just for online and only put in what is needed for payment ( I use a credit union because they do not charge for xtra accounts and big plus they have some sites open on Saturday.) I love my library too.

Love your videos. My nickname is Frugal Francine! I am 54 and oh how I wish I would have started saving sooner. I get a thrill out of saving money! Yes indeed know what you have before going shopping.
I use Zote soap for bath soap and laundry soap. $1 baby! Lol! the pink bar, in the laundry soap aisle.
See through the lens of abundance. Love that reminder! Great video. Thanks
Thank you Anna!
Morning Kate, thanks again for your solid advice. You really are like a breath of fresh air.
In July 2019 I purposely set up automatic deposit giving me savings. A friend once said every time I get paid I pay myself first. Because I have a small stock pile I don't need anything. That made it easy for me to save which in my case is paying myself first.
YESSSS PALOMA! AWESOME ADVICE!
Xx
Kathryn thank you so much! Loved this comment. Totally made my day.
I live in a 55 year old trailer. The land is free and clear. The trailer has its problems. I am thankful and grateful we have a roof over our heads even if does leak on occasion. We have food clothes and warmth and most importantly we have a house full of love!
YESSS Kimberly!!!!
You are all of our wise and friendly next door neighbor who we love to run into across the fence! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Yes Cathy. My past problem too, spent each penny on my kids. Now they grown up...hence Im restarting to Save.
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
HAHAH! You are SO welcome!
My best money saving tips
1.buy good quality items, such as dish detergent.laundry detergent.trash bags.
6. Always go over receipts,bills,credit card statements,bank statements,insurance policies.
14.if space allows,grow a garden.
15.learn how to break down and freeze food into smaller portions.
16. Shop what you have before buying more.
17.keep lists of whatever you are low on or out of.keep an inventory of what's on hand.
Thank you so much for watching and sharing with us Rochelle!
I will, I subscribed and rang the bell. Even though I am old enough to be your grandma, I can always learn new things.
@@margaretbedwell58 I love it!!!! Thank you Margaret!!!!!!!! See you soon!
I relate so much to the singleness of purpose you have in your life-raising your child. I was raised by a single mom; her values shaped who I am today. Bravo to you!!
Thank you so much Melili!!!!!!!! Single mamas get it done! Your Mom sounds awesome:)
I just recently found you! Thank you for all your wonderful advice!! We are in the home stretch paying off our condo!!
Bless you dear lady!!
YASSSSS KRIS! I'm SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE! And congratulations! You are almost there!!!!!
Only 20 but preparing for future
Oh then THIS IS THE PLACE for you Riham!!!!! I'd love it if more 20 years olds watched this channel to get prepared! I'm SO glad you are here!
Love, love, love your channel, I always see your videos with my morning coffee 🙂
I love your channel !! I've been binge watching your videos and you have so much great advice!!
AHHH! JAMIE! That means the world to me! THANK YOU! I'm so glad you are getting some value out of my videos! Hope to see you again soon!
He's 33. Boy, now I do feel old! Time does fly.
I love your channel. I was definitely in your shoes 20 years ago as a single mother of a 6 year old daughter. You are a success story!!
Carol, thank you SO much!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you are here!
I think you're the second person to tell me about Coffee w Kate! I must go visit her!
These are useful tips that we often disregard. Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome! Thank you so much for watching William! So glad you are here!
Such good guidelines to live by!
Great tips !! I thought I was the only one who checked my bank account every morning! I also check my 401k and other investment balances every 2 weeks, after I get paid. Just to make sure all the automated contributions went in, and to see the balances grow, which is great inspiration to keep saving and living frugally.
I have been binge watching you and I’m so grateful for you! I have so much inspiration and aspire to be uplifting like you!
This makes my entire week! Thank you so much!
One tip, when you save receipts and find you have doubles of something or shopping remorse, you can often take stuff back.
This way I get what I paid and any taxes back. Even if I get a credit it still keeps my inventory down, and frees up cash for better buys!
GOOD IDEA! I never think of that!
YOU TOO! OMG! I am a recovering people pleasure to. I think it is easier for people to learn to become kind than overcoming people pleasing! I love u and your channel and the little guy as well!
Thank you sooooo much! I love this comment!!!!! You just made my day! :) Hope to see you again so soon!!!! Love, Kate
Love this video and love the cats in the background!
you are wise beyond your years.

Love #9 so very true. I love my home I almost hate going out lol great video and tips!
Thank you so much!!!!!!!
😊
That’s me. I love my home so I am definitely a home body!
I went to the library the other day and I was like a kid in a candy store!
YESSSSSS!!!!!!
That is AMAAAAZING!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go Destiny!!! That's SOOO AWESOME!
Love RUclips of course!! You can find puzzles or board/card games sometimes under $1 at thrift stores or yard sales
Yasss!!! The cats!! 🐈 🤣🤣
A super video! I do a lot of those things in my own way based on my personal circumstances! I will look at some of your previous videos! Best wishes to you, your child and your lovely cats!
Thank you so much Isabel!!!! You are so sweet! Doing anything fun or frugal this weekend?
Always check bank statements, receipts, bills, insurancepolicies, all that.make it a habit. Shop around to get the best price
Love the way you make ur home ur sanctuary
Thank you Donna!
I am 100% working on using everything up and I always recycle!
Yasss!
OMG! $400!!!!!!! I'd have flipped out!!!
I subscribed! I just love your videos. You are adorable and so is your son!
Thank you SO much Rebecca!!! WELCOME WELCOME! I'm so glad you are here! And thank you for being so kind!
Also, when you use a can good, rinse out right after emptying and take off label... save and turn in once you get several bags. It’s not a big return but it’s a little back on groceries and it’s not in the dump.
OOOh nice!!!!
Money Mom refer me to you and I am so glad she did. You are awesome 👏🏼
Thank you so much for coming Doris! I love Money Mom! Hope to see you again soon!
Awesome
Great tips! Definitely agree with them all. I'm working on saying no. I think it will get easier with practice.
YASSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
Good for you. And don't do a lot of explaining to justify your no because nobody is satisfied with a no but you!
Absolutely! Thank you Yvonne! Hope to see you again soon!
Money Mom told me I should watch your videos. :) Thanks for the tips! (Oh and I'm a new subscriber now, too!)
Pamela! WELCOME!!!! I'm so glad you subscribed and that Money Mom sent you over. I just love her. Hope you are having a beautiful weekend and that you find value in my videos. See you more soon I hope! -Kate

SAME!
Me too! Learn so much
I cancelled our TV and watch RUclips!
Bringing lunch helps me so much. Also, sometimes I would transfer $5 each day to savings when I brought my lunch. Trying to work on the uae first.
YESSS!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME Ashley!!!!
Smart idea to stash it away directly.
Great advice just discovered your channel love!
Thanks Teresa! I'm so glad you are here!

Hi Jo Kay! Thank you so much for watching! A new video comes out this morning at 9am! Hope to see you again then!
Looking forward to 9:00! Thanks for your inspiration! I need to be more focused on spending less! I looked up Teami from your link. Are you still a Member of TEAMI? Teami site froze up when I started adding to cart? Just curious?
Love it!
Thanks Kate just looking back at your vlogs great advice xx
Thank you so much Michelle!

Right??? AHHH!
