DEBAPRIYA DAS | Baladi Nostalgia | Safar-E-Raqs

This modern belly dance choreography was presented as part of Safar-e-Raqs, a historical belly dance production. It was choreographed and performed by Debapriya Das.
The production travels from the late 1790’s to the present day unraveling how the dance was adapted - to different cultures, different audiences - and how a curious metamorphosis of the dance took place. This dance journey covered over centuries is deeply rooted to gendered perspectives of history, culture, society and people. Safar-e-Raqs is a collaborative effort between Nrityakosh Dance Company and several independent belly dancers and theatre actors in Bangalore. Safar-E-Raqs premiered in Bangalore, January 21, 2018, at the Alliance Francaise auditorium.
Nrityakosh is a performance house and a school for belly dancers and belly dance enthusiasts. We specialize in the Egyptian Oriental and Tribal Fusion forms of Belly Dance along with Kathak, Contemporary and Bollywood dance.
