Def was not expecting there to be a sizable breakfast service two hours after the dinner service. You can tell Air India is trying so hard to be better and it’s showing. Little by little!
i have taken this flight before the TATA takeover / before covid and after recently a month ago . it was the same in terms of service and food. Air India has always been amazing. not perfect but definitely one the most comfortable airlines i've flown with. Things that actually matter to me are always perfect with Air India. legroom, seats comfort, baggage allowance, meals and service. My worst experience was with Qatar airlines, by far it was the most uncomfortable journey i took and the "famous" service was mid.
I had the same experience many (many!!) years ago, flying Canadian Airlines from Toronto to Amsterdam. They served dinner according to Toronto´s time, and breakfast to Amsterdam´s (which was about midnight for Toronto), which meant that in a 6-hour flight and with 6-hour time gap between the two places, you had two meals within a 3-hour period.
As a frequent Air India user, I share your optimism for the future. A few select routes already have a better "hard" product with some ex-Delta, ex-Etihad 777-200LRs and 777-300ERs. Apparently 6 A359s are being delivered this year as well. It will be a game of avoiding the old aircraft for a year or two more but once up to standard, I can imagine AI being a viable choice for flying to and THROUGH India to connecting destinations. DEL and BOM are, after all, two wonderful airports to transit.
i hope this takeover can have air india compete with some middle eastern carriers like qatar, etihad, oman, emirates. DEL and BOM are in perfect areas to be major hubs. I mean even the west coast of the US is connected to india nonstop
I flew Air India in 2020 Feb from DEL-SFO-DEL. On 77L and 77W. Even then the food options, crew, and legroom were amazing. But on my flight back from SFO to DEL, the IFE didn't work. And that was a 15-hour flight. But I am optimistic about the Tata takeover. So far they're going in right direction in my opinion.
Just curious what was your aircraft's registration? Because there's this one specific aircraft that didn't have working IFEs when I rode AI to Bangalore, so I'm speculating you probably got that same aircraft

I literally took a trip to Austria after watching Dave's channel and being on the same plane as him was the best part of my trip.
i’m so happy this is a new Air India video after the Tata takeover, and i loved how David went easy on Air India since they are still improving after the takeover
Flew them earlier this year on DEL-ORD and SFO-BLR business class. No complaints whatsoever. Amazing experience through and through! Yes, the planes have some work to be done but the food and service we're beyond reproach. I look forward to flying Air India more frequently in the times to come.
13:09 I flew on a British Airways 777-300ER 2 weeks ago fitted with a Thales system like this one. The handset would work every few hours which means the crew had to keep resetting it and the touchscreen did not work. The screen would sometimes freeze and crash when it was on the moving map, only some of the many entertainment options were shown on the ife system, There was practically no space under the seat due to the Bulky IFE Box and The picture quality was quite poor.
The long-awaited Air India video is finally uploaded 👏🏻. Waiting for the other tripreports of your recent India tour, especially IXB-CCU, CCU-VNS and DEL-FRA videos. All my best wishes to you and your team; wish you and your team would come to India again ♥️. i suppose why the breakfast was at that time is because 2am in vienna would probably be morning and around the time in india when people have breakfast. if the crew was following IST then that probably explains it
Was in two Etihad B-777 flights from Abu Dhabi to Jakarta and return on June and August with similar looking IFE. It was not working at all and was a hassle, especially for my kid who needs different entertainment other than his drawing book, push button toys and else.
Nice video David please can you review ba cityflyer and bulgaria air and LOT on their 737MAX and E190 from london to Warsaw to Sofia on your channel you never landed in sofia before
Travelled on Air India 787-8 . Except for seating comfort all other thing’s required refurbishment. The planes were old and hardly any maintenance been done to fix the old seats , entertainment system too.
Your videos are absolutely amazing and provide excellent advice about traveling on different airlines. Before going on any airline I watch your reviews.
Very interesting to see you reviewing this flight. I went on the same route with my family just weeks ago and we had similar experiences. The technical equipment in the cabin is not in a good state. Most of the personal entertainment screens did not work and if you were able to start a movie, this did not mean that it would work for the whole flight. Sometimes it helped to ask a flight attendant to reset it. We also experienced broken USB-Ports and some of the power outlets did not work too - Same for the buttons to dim the windows. The flight attendants did their best to compensate for this. They were very helpful and patient when customers complained. Dinner and lunch (on the connecting flights) tasted not good in 3 out of 4 times. We tried 3 different types (chicken, vegetarian, vegan) - way to spicy, my seat-neighbor (Indian origin) also complained about the food and told me it was better in the past. Cleanliness was good for the most parts, but the remote control was really dirty. I hope they improve the cabins and the food in the future, I felt sorry for the friendly cabin crew - they really did their best in the situation.
Looks like the worst of AI is over.Tata has a herculean task on its hands.really glad they have taken over.have great memories of yesteryears when it used to be the heights of luxury even in economy.but then the decline seemed never-ending. All the best Tata.Wishing you all the best.

400 plus Euros? That's more than i'm willing to pay to fly Air India, they're usually known for their more reasonable prices. However, with the improvements TATA is helping make possible, I hope they can make those prices justifiable in the future. Also, what do you guys think of Air India's new livery? I really like it as a livery, but not as an Air India livery, as all the "India" elements on the current livery seem to have disappeared. I expected something more patriotic for an airline looking to become this new symbol of travel to India.

It is a matter of time till the new planes arrive. Air India will forsure achieve a good future with the all new management, internal improvements and overal quality of service. The fact they are cheaper then all major EU airlines with direct routes to Delhi and mumbai from like Amsterdam and London is a big plus point. KLM is very expensive compared to AI and their food is very bad en leg space is very poor, even for shorter people. AI will fill in a gap of quality/price against KLM-Airfrance, BA, Lufthansa and other like italian or turkish airline combined with indigo scheme.
I travelled with Air India (layover) last year. I wasn't impressed, dirty seats, dirty toilets, inflight entertainment wasn't working, the anti-social behaviour of the Indian passengers, the woman who sat behind me put her smelly foot on my armrest. I told myself I'd never ever travel on an Air India flight again, it was a nightmare.
Loved this review. The first honest and unbiased review of Air India. I have taken this route a couple times before the TATA takeover and a month ago, both times my experience was incredible. the IFE didnt work both times but that never matters to me since i dont use it anyways. The things that mattered were always amazing. the best legroom and seats i have ever experienced in economy, the best baggage allowance and the most amazing service and meals. they gave me 2 dinners and a full breakfast on this route (i asked for an extra meal and they happily gave it). I am very particular about the airlines I fly with i usually only fly KLM or Air india. the flight with air india was more expensive than emirates but 100% worth it would take it again.
Air India has sorted out it's soft product already - the hard product is poor, but it'll be ok once the new airplanes start rolling in. All existing widebodies with the old interiors will undergo a $400 Million refit. India deserves it's own world class Airline as it will soon be the 3rd largest Economy in the World & Air India will be that airline.
the main problem with air india is the IFE. on many flights, the IFE doesn'e work at all and even if it does, it has limited options. hope the new changes in the airline also change the IFE and introduce better content
I recently flew Air India from Italy to Singapore (MXP-DEL-SIN) and back and had a really bad experience on all 4 segments (all on Boeing 787-8 as the one shown in the video). As the video shows, most window blinds were unoperable, entertainment system was working erratically (and had very limited choice when it was working), but on top of that toilets were really dirty, in 2 segments at least 1 toilet was out of order for the whole flight (with a fully booked plane), in 1 segment a toilet was "usable" but had a piece of broken equipment dangerously hanging from the walls making it impossible to use and very dangerous, food was just average and the service was waaaaaaayy too long as shown in the video leaving almost no time at all for sleep. On top of all this, we've had a 3 hours delay on MXP-DEL (compensated with just a 8 € meal voucher) and a massive 7.30 hours delay on DEL-MXP which was compensated with another 8 € meal voucher and a in-airport hotel stay after 1 hour of arguing with the unhelpful staff. The delay was so big we've had to sleep at another hotel in MXP as it was 2:30 in the morning when we got there and there was no transportation available to Torino anylonger. I definitely DO NOT recommend flying Air India long haul until the new Air India fully kicks in.
@@woutergijs5246 i didn't said they already changed , they will change all cabin and livery from2024 , this vlog is about now , becaz he can't time travel to future
It's rather strange that the window wasn't blocked or properly managed by cabin crew as all of the windows can be looked atfer from the CAP on 787s... ehh India
So the moral of this story is better things to come for AI, but wait a year or two for the new aircraft and for the current aircraft to be refurbished before giving them a try.
Finally good to see this brutally honest report on AI. Definately Cabins are quite outdated especially their B777s. I flew their B787 in 2013 and they looked brand-new from LHR-BOM. Its just sad how old these cabins look even on the B787 that isn't manufactured in 90s. However, Improvements are taking place slowly. They will slowly take these planes out once they have more leased planes to fly. Currently they got 4 B777-200LR that flew for Delta before, six more leased B777s from Etihad will be joining and then soon the airline will start refurbishment of their exisiting B777s. Another reason why their flights to north america have been frequently delayed is due to crew shortage lately as most of them still need to renew their visas for US/Canada. We can already see improvements, they just need more time to reach at the top level and establish themselves as the best airline of India.
Had worst experience with airindia Vin to Del. It was a month ago, my flight has been canceled without any reason. There are tons of people who are transfering from Delhi. Yeah, they all miss their tickets. And when I called airindia, they didn't even know flight was canceled. Cabin crews told me that they also don't know what is going on. And I'm waiting 1 month to get a reimbursement of the hotel fee. ( I'm still waiting to get a reply, but I didn't get it for 1 week.) I would give 5 stars for the hospitality of cabin crews But the system and CS were terrible.
Regarding the window dimming feature, imo there should always be a blind present! No matter how great the tech is. A manual backup for such things is always good. I guess the reason is to make sure all windows are clear while landings and take offs. I also understand installing an automatic blind system that can be operated manually during the cruise phase would be a pointless expense as well. But since the crew already does checks pre landing and takeoff, I believe they should consider keeping at least a simple one. I for myself hate it when I can't shut the blind with the sun on my face! I'm more of a cloudy weather person 😅
I thought your review was fair, but was somewhat surprised by your comment regarding a second meal service as unnecessary. First of all, on late night flights, many people do not stay awake for the first meal service, but gladly appreciate being offered breakfast A second meal option on a 6:30 flight affords people the option of accepting the meal of their choosing rather than the late night “dinner only” option you suggested. Secondly, you actually could’ve decided not to have breakfast and remained asleep.
AI still has plenty of work to do to rehabilitate itself, but it looks like plenty of progress has been made. The most impressive improvement has been the change in the crew attitude. Seems like AI employees are now being encouraged to do their jobs and take pride in their work, rather than take their employment for granted as they have in the past. But AI will continue to have difficulties because India (like Mexico) has become an LCC-dominated market, especially on the domestic and regional international front. A full service carrier with higher operating costs will struggle to compete.

The things that mattered were always amazing. the best legroom and seats i have ever experienced in economy, the best baggage allowance and the most amazing service and meals. they gave me 2 dinners and a full breakfast on this route (i asked for an extra meal and they happily gave it). I am very particular about the airlines I fly with i usually only fly KLM or Air india. the flight with air india was more expensive than emirates but 100% worth it would take it again.
i love the new intro for this season of brutally honest
Can my wireless earbuds connect to the onboard entertainment system?
Air India has sorted out it's soft product already - the hard product is poor, but it'll be ok once the new airplanes start rolling in. All existing widebodies with the old interiors will undergo a $400 Million refit.
India deserves it's own world class Airline as it will soon be the 3rd largest Economy in the World & Air India will be that airline.
This is so much better then our airports here in Canada. This already beats the ‘business’ class here
Great video, can see you watching THE OFFICE my all time favorite show. Cheers.
the main problem with air india is the IFE. on many flights, the IFE doesn'e work at all and even if it does, it has limited options. hope the new changes in the airline also change the IFE and introduce better content
Yeahhh....until the new version kicks in probably.
Check out Mumbai San Francisco Air India, Ex Delta aircraft. Premium Economy or Business class. Also, check out Mumbai Tokyo Narita ANA !!!!!!!
Welcome to Bharat. Thanks for the great review. All of us are looking forward to a much better flying experience with Air India
Finally, a new video!

It's rather strange that the window wasn't blocked or properly managed by cabin crew as all of the windows can be looked atfer from the CAP on 787s... ehh India
One area where Air India excels and has always exceled is the food. Their food quality is top notch even on domestic sectors.
I liked the little bit of planespotting before hand, do more of that.
So the moral of this story is better things to come for AI, but wait a year or two for the new aircraft and for the current aircraft to be refurbished before giving them a try.
You can fly to Delhi from Vienna but still no nonstop to San Francisco 😢
I smiled when I saw the LAUDA plane but I burst out laughing when you said you know its meaning in Hindi.
No way there's an airline named that 4:30😂🤣🤣🤣
Finally good to see this brutally honest report on AI.
( I'm still waiting to get a reply, but I didn't get it for 1 week.)
I would give 5 stars for the hospitality of cabin crews
But the system and CS were terrible.
I wish Air India used the Thales Avant/Panasonic systems
Regarding the window dimming feature, imo there should always be a blind present! No matter how great the tech is. A manual backup for such things is always good. I guess the reason is to make sure all windows are clear while landings and take offs. I also understand installing an automatic blind system that can be operated manually during the cruise phase would be a pointless expense as well. But since the crew already does checks pre landing and takeoff, I believe they should consider keeping at least a simple one. I for myself hate it when I can't shut the blind with the sun on my face! I'm more of a cloudy weather person 😅
4 minutes ago but i cnt find the vid where you flew air asia india
The Airasia India video hasn't been published yet, it's coming soon! :)
Fantastic video David, definitely think they’re heading it the right direction!😸
Vistara food also I am impressed I had 3 connections all providing meal
much more measured reviews than those of NonStopDan…. Keep it up…
This is why I always download my own movie content on my personal device. Just in case. 👍🏾
We want a comparision between Vistara and Air India cabin service
I'm surprised Air India even goes to Vienna unless it's a new route by TATA
Try Indian airlines on domestic routes like Akasa Air Spicejet and Indigo
