Новое европейское джазовое открытие, голландская певица и автор песен Шэрон Ковакс родилась 15 апреля 1990 года в Эйндховене и начала петь раньше, чем говорить. Музыке в детстве она не училась и даже бросила основную школу, чтобы пойти работать. Но пение для нее всегда было на первом плане. Она слушала много разных исполнителей - Билли Холидей, Этту Джеймс, Нину Симон, Эллу Фитцджеральд, Дину Вашингтон, Тину Тернер и Дженис Джоплин, как говорит сама Шарон, «я слушала певиц-личностей, тех, кто действительно жил свою жизнь и чьи эмоции слышны в их голосах».
Работая официанткой в одном из баров, она однажды приняла участие в вокальном конкурсе «Открытый микрофон» и сорвала овации, а после этого последовала добрым советам и пошла на прослушивание в Rock City при музыкальной школе в родном городе. И была принята в число студентов, исполнив пару песен своим темным проникновенным голосом.
Затем было знакомство с продюсером Оскаром Холлеманом, который получил от нее через интернет образцы раннего творчества и был поражен глубиной ее «черного» голоса: "Обычно я не слушаю такие вещи, но от скуки послушал и был завербован этим голосом. Когда я встретил ее, она выглядела совершенно иначе, чем я себе представлял. Хотя ее голос звучит невероятно «черно», она - белая девочка с бритой головой. Я был полностью очарован, и поэтому мы начали сотрудничать". В дополнение к их сессиям в Голландии Ковакс совершила путешествие в Гавану (Куба) и сотрудничала с местными музыкантами в Egrem Studios, и эта работа повлияла на окраску некоторых вещей с дебютного альбома, где слышны кубинские ритмы.
Не без трудностей Шарон закончила музыкальное образование, так как ее устоявшаяся манера пения создавала для педагогов определенные трудности. Они не знали, что с ней делать и даже советовали уйти и поискать более подходящее занятие вне стен учебного заведения. Однако упорство Шарон, а также ее постоянные поиски самовыражения привели к определенным успехам. Сейчас в ее багаже есть достижения: ее сингл «My Love» достиг верхних позиций чартов в Голландии и Греции, а видео набрало более 13 млн просмотров на Ютубе. Она участвовала в нескольких джазовых фестивалях, в том числе Eurosonic Festival в Грингине и Ziggodome в Амстердаме, и Bospop and North Sea Jazz Festivals.
