Going to try it this weekend with my new kayak. Thank you for making this video.
I have a 2019 Tacoma with a five foot bed. I getting ready to buy my first yak, and found this video helpful.
How did it go with the 5 ft bed?
@@RiggadonDan I think he died
@@RiggadonDan I bought a truck bed extender.
Thank you dude going to pick up 2 kayaks today with my truck I had no idea what I was going to do
I like open bed as well. Got a roll up cover that keeps everything dry through the rain, but when rolled gives you 99% open bed 👌
Really dig how your truck is turning out, Bandit! Agree on the bed mat; it’s pretty much a must have accessory!
I agree, thanks!
Love the simple set up! Great video!
exactly the content I am looking for to put an 8 foot kayak in my 5 foot bed on my ranger. Good vid.
Very nicely done. Thank you for sharing this info.
I only have the short bed, but used to use the bed extender and slide the kayak in and rest it on that with a strap to the D rings to hold it down. Now I added the cap, but I installed Yakima racks on top of it. Picked up a used utility trailer, and going to add racks to that for a canoe. There are so many possibilities with these trucks.
A trailer would certainly simplify the process! The ideas really are endless!
Great video. I have that bed mat. And I love my Tacoma!
Same kinda thoughts for me. I use mine as a daily driver and some times have to hauls boxes for work. The factory tie down spots work just fine. The bed mat is a must with the composite beds.
I agree!
Great tips.Well done!👏👏👏👏
My buddy owns a kayak rental shop and he showed me to tilt it in my bed (leaning against the side) and ratchet it tight.
My Frontier with a 5ft bed can fit both my kayaks that way and they don’t budge while driving.
I put 2 2x2 from side to side bungee corroded them to the rails and strapped the kayaks on top cheap easy and still had the bed for cargo
Great idea!
Nice looking Ascend yak bandit👍 I have a couple yaks if it would quit raining I’d love to hit the water. Kayaks is one big reason I run a cap.
Yes sir, hopefully we can get out there soon!
I love the bed mat. I am also a fan of a trifold toneau cover. Its great for keeping things dry and it comes off in like 2 minutes if you need it off for carrying bigger things
My cousin swears by his, he loves it for holding his golf clubs!
When it comes to straps, I always use the following:
1 is none
2 is 1
3 is 2
If he military taught me anything, it’s that Straps break!
Hoah
Just a little tip go to Harbor Freight and get the hitch Bed Extender works like a charm. I carry my 12 and a half foot Bonafide ss127 and I can still squeeze in my buddies native 12
Thanks for the tip!
I don't think they count the overhang from the end of the dropped-down tailgate. It's from the tail lights, so those kayaks are hanging out a few feet at least. But maybe they're under the common 4' overhang rule.
Great vid man! That yak is pretty sweet. Let’s get out and fill that bad boy with some monster smallies! We should be able to get out here very soon.
Yes sir, can't wait!
I have another question somebody might be able to answer. I have a 2010 Tacoma. On the new trucks the base of the gear shifter has that little like leather bag around it. Mine has that track that it moves down. Dirt gets down in that track and it is a pain in the *** to clean out. I can never get all the dirt out. If anybody knows a trick I would love to know.
Can you fit a 7' fishing rod inside the cab?
I have the 5' bed on my Taco. I have a 12.6" Kayak my Wife has a 10' and I use a bed extender. works great with little hassel.
Good to know, thanks!
Scott Dabson a specific extender you can recommend?
It’s nice having an 8 foot bed just toss it in and it’s ready to go.
I like the color of the truck.
I have a Ridgeline and use a bed extender. Unfortunately the kayaks I have don't hard plastic handles on the sides or ends, just rope handles on the ends. Not sure if I really trust sliding a ratchet strap through them. Should probably go around the end of the kayak on the extender and the other end so it can't shift forward or backward. Not sure.
I too drive a 2023 Ridgeline. What bed extender model do you recommend? I am hoping to be able to haul my 10’ kayak w/o. I also have the roll up tonneau cover. Thanks for any advice
Both trucks look really good, but I am partial to the Sport seeing as I have one. I just don't think they look right without the hood scoop. I have two questions.
1. Will either of you be going to dual exhaust?
2. What exactly is the deal with Bed Stiffeners? What exactly is it and do you have it for your off - road?
More on that coming very soon!
You have to look at the laws in your state. In Texas anything 4’ beyond the taillights require a red flag during the day or additional lights at night. I use a 12’ on a longbed and need the lights at night and the flag. I’m about 5’ past the taillights.
I also have a 15’ that I put on a prinsu cabrack. It works out good.
Just be sure to check what is legal in your state or if you get rear ended you may be liable.
Thanks for the tip! That is a must!
What red flag are you referring to? I live in TExas and mine sticks out around 4-5 feet.
Any kind of flagger, like a torn piece of shirt with a bright color like red or orange. You want something that raises awareness to the surrounding vehicles.
Can get a bright safety flag on amazon for about $5
I am getting ready to go try to strap a Ascend 12T in my 6.5 ft truck bed. I will let you now how it works out lol
same here bro haha how did it work for you??
@@Iepyro24 guess he died?
Where did you get your bed Matt bro?,
Great video smashed the like button 👍👍
P.s I took off those plastic strap things and just threw them in my back seat 1 scared of them getting jacked and 2 like you said there not that much lol I prefer using the metal hooks on the bottom of the bed that you use in this video
I too am always afraid someone will steal my tie down clamps so I keep them secured in the cab.
LSanti yea even with the little compartments in the back and your tailgate locked someone can still hop on the bed and take them glad I’m not the only one lol
Thanks man, appreciate it! The bed mat is from our friends at Sparks Parts! Check them out and use Promo Code: BANDIT for a discount at checkout!
What tires? Random I know but they look really nice!
Cooper Discoverer AT3 👍
I was thinking you can't get an off road four door with the 6 foot bed. Am I wrong?
No, you can get that configuration!
You're not afraid of losing your poles?
Welp, gonna throw 2 10ft yaks in my short bed Tacoma today. As long as it's not over 4ft we good!!!
Why 4 foot??
Blackhawk556 Oregon laws 👎
👍
Who makes the purple kayak?
It's a Perception Access
How do you like that ascend yak? Do you ever stand on it while fishin?
Andrew T they are garbage kayaks. I owned one absolutely the worst kayak I've ever bought. The deck is really soft just poor quality my buddy fell in love with it he bought one and regretted it is as well nothing but leaks. He stepped up to a native 12 pedal drive I stepped up to a bonafide
I have heard mixed reviews on them but I am so happy with mine! I have been out several times in it and it is very stable while standing, sitting, or fishing. I would definitely buy again!
If a cop didn't have nothing to do they might possibly stop you from your wonderfull day because the license plate isnt in plain view.
Who makes the brown kaysk?
Ascend 10 T. They are sold at Cabelas / Bass Pro
@@TrailPass thank you!
@@TrailPass how much was it?
@Trail Pass NOOOOOOO!!! It is illegal in my state to do that. I have a 2019 Toyota Tundra Crewmax 4 Door with a bed cover which I haul my 10.5 Ft Wilderness System Pongo 105. Not every State or County allows you to load kayaks/surfboards in the back of your truck. Maybe 20, 25, or 30 years ago it was legal here, but not anymore. I live in Los Angeles and if the Highway Patrol pulls me over, it a $600.00 fine. I had to break down and buy a Rhino Rack System for $400.00. Before you make the mistake and load your kayak, surf board etc., contact your local Highway Patrol or State Trooper in your state. DON'T JUST ASSUME ITS LEGAL! What @Trail Pass did in this video, is so illegal to do in my County and State.
Just bought two inflatable kayaks, problem solved.
I have always wondered about those! Do they seem to work alright?
Bandit Off-road they are great, set up isn’t to bad nor is take down but it’s a slight chore and does take extra time, not much tho, otherwise I think they are even more comfortable due to al the Cush. Possibly my biggest complaint is they have a bit more drag and you will have a slightly reduced top speed and also have to paddle a bit more to go the same distance as a regular kayak( with a higher end inflatable I believe it’s even less an issue), but it’s not crazy noticeable. Love how easy they are to transport, especially when already dealing with mountain bikes and camping gear :)
Inflatables are great, just make sure you are prepared for the inevitable swim when she pops right as you are the furthest out and at the deepest part of the water you are on 😂
Great now hook up a camp trailer... and show me how towing a camp trailer with the kayaks like that work out for you?
Well if he was hauling a camp trailer this would be a entirety different video about hauling his kayaks ...clearly he is a man's man and tents it ...and not worried about hauling a dam camper
How to just throw a couple kayaks in a short bed pickup and throw a couple straps on and see what happens. Wow.
🇵🇬🇵🇬,
Kudos to the NRA member!
