  • Prelude to the second act of "Siegfried", second day of the Tetralogy "Der Ring des Nibelungen" (The Ring of the Nibelung); german opera in three acts. Music and text by Richard Wagner (1813 - 1883).
At dead of night, in the middle of the forest of Neidhole; Fafner's motif stands out, slow and trailed, on the notes of violin, timpani and violas, supported by tuba and double basses, together with the motif of the dragon; the themes of the Ring, the curse and Alberich's obsessive will, chasing each other, drive the main motives. Horror of nocturnal forest, sound sleep of the dragon, cursed thirst for the gold; on the backgroud, as usual, the tragic warning: nothing will be safe from destruction.
Performers: Daniel Barenboim & Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
