  • My experience with Apple HomePod compared to Google Home Max or even Amazon Echo has been a big miss. Siri is just stupid, there's very limited features and you're stuck using Apple Music.
    In this video I even do a Homepod vs Amazon Echo Vs Google Home so you can see the good the bad and the ugly. Simply put Apple HomePod isn't ready for prime time and you're better off getting a Sonos system instead.

      Question : Did you specify which version of the song you wanted to hear? I found the song on Itunes; Sorry for party Rockin (Nash and Silcox remix). As such, I requested the song (via my phone through Siri ) just as you said with out indicating the version or remix and got the version you heard on Alexa.

    Here's a fix for your the LMFAO command! Try "Hey Siri...play the song "Sorry for Party Rocking"! That should work. What I found out is that the LMFAO's album is also named "Sorry For Party Rocking". So what you're hearing is the first track on the album. I hope it helped.

      1. He conveniently doesn’t mention what caused the device not to pair. I bet you it was an I.D10.T issue.
      2. He doesn’t know he can use spotify and youtube podcasts via airplay.
      3. It is for Apple users. Hence only airplay and not open standard bluetooth.
      4. Yes the pod doesnt have voice recognition - valid argument, but he doesn’t seem to know you can enable or disable messaging and calling via your iphone.

    1) HomePod doesn’t have a W1 chip as you suggested. 2) Setup is relatively quick - less than 2min for most. You didn’t disclose the fix. My guess is Apple Music wasn’t installed, which is required for setup. That strikes me as something worth including 3) You mentioned not being able to play indie songs, or music from other services. This is not accurate. Any audio you can play AirPlay (ie from Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod) will play - this includes any media files, streaming services.

  • @eddiecasanova8255

    Remember how apple airplay works, you can pretty much play anything on the Homepod that comes from your iPhone or even iPad. So it is incorrect that you said only apple music can be played on it. Now via Siri, Siri will only search in apple music. Now if you want to listen to that LMFAO song on spotify on it from your phone you can but its a manual process on your phone you cant ask Siri. You should say this in your review to be completely honest and not discourage people who may not know how apple airplay works.

    • @Sandinae
      @Sandinae 6 лет назад

      Eddie Casanova I guess you didn’t even watch the whole video. He mentioned AirPlay. His whole point was why HomePod users even have to bother themselves to set up something unnecessary. If you wanna simply listen some music at your home, I personally think he is right, you can buy Bluetooth speakers which are much cheaper but better sound quality. Still it’s your money I don’t care what you buy. But as a professional reviewer, he just gives a good guide to many future buyer of smart speakers, especially HomePod. People buy HomePod not because they use it for a just speaker. They buy it because Apple says it is “smart” speaker. So I think HomePod should be more smarter and accesible.

    When he said, “Play Sorry for Party Rocking” the home pod understood it as playing the album, not the song. What actually played was the first song of the album. I understand his other points, but that one was just sloppy and poorly investigated.

    • @mondobytes
      @mondobytes  6 лет назад

      Nope because that wasn't my point, it was about licensing. I've requested many songs which are alternate because Apple Music doesn't have the rights. Perhaps that might have been a bad example but that wasn't my point as I clearly stated in my video.

    • @evendavila1408
      @evendavila1408 6 лет назад +1

      Armando Ferreira, I appreciate the reply! Yeah, I think it was just that example that threw me off. I’m sure there’s some more instances of when Apple’s licensing does not cover the entire collection of music out there. Btw, Not defending Apple by any means, like you said, the HomePod is half-baked product, not worth the $350 for a product that will EVENTUALLY be what it’s supposed to be.

    Armando Ferreira You got a new sub. I do have some things to point out. One, when you were clicking on the top of HomePod you accidentally clicked the top button (Siri button). It’s touchscreen and when you clicked it instead of volume up it automatically plays whatever music is cued up. That’s why it didn’t play the right song. I do think they should change that but you did technically miss hit it. Also you can use airplay to stream from RUclips or Spotify or whatever music.
    Despite those disagreements I agree with you. It’s limiting and should have more features and should be rolled out with all the features we expect including dual HomePod support. I would like to say please read my prior disagreements and give it another shot. I think it would help out and give you more of an appreciation for HomePod.
    Also, I know why you had that error as I had it as well. It is an issue due to iCloud Keychain which is why none of your devices worked. To fix this you need to clear out your iCloud Keychain on a Mac by opening keychain access and clearing out the Keychain. Or by using an older phone that does not store iCloud Keychain in the same manner since it doesn’t have the same software. This is not an excuse for that not working by the way and it frustrated me to no end to figure out how to fix it. I took it upon myself to fix the issue.
    Also I would love to start my own channel and would like advise from you as you seem to really cast a great image in the tech reviewing industry.

      About the music thing, Siri has major difficulties with distinguishing the name of a song from the album name. He is also correct about Apple Music having different versions and Siri never asks you which version you want to hear. The entire Music domain in general is hit-and-miss. These issues have been known for years, yet they are not being fixed for whatever reason.

    You set off my Google Home twice with this Sorry For Party Rock :) and now I am sitting in the dark which responds fast for me .... The reason why I left Apple because their only Play My Music garbage and I love to customize and add memory to my phone why pay $100's more to get extra space... Apple is a good product but lately they been sitting back watching other companies release their products and if it flops they don't move on it but if it suceeds they will move and improve it but they really were late with their Home Pod as I thought Google was late to get out the door as Amazon was out for ages before Google.. Sounds like you didn't do your research before purchasing the Home Pod. You are just some random dude who did not identify your own ecosystem and your current techs, then decided to purchase a Home Pod just to realise it doesn't fit well amongst your devices, then blame Home Pod for not being able to meet your requirements. Is like you purchasing a tractor when you don't know if you could operate it or even have a place to store it. Then blame the tractor for not meeting your needs and tell everyone, don't buy this tractor. So don't blame the Home Pod for not meeting your demands. A good buyer would first identify what is his/ her current devices, identify his/ her needs, then proceed to decide if he/she should buy a HomePod, not buy a Home Pod and tell the word: oh is crap because it does not fit into my individual lifestyle or my current devices. Is so bias and not representative of its actual use.

      Well the point of this i guess is to share the information to those who assume that the product will perform like echo or amazon home. There are folks out there who love apple products so much that they buy it without researching and find out its limitations the hard way just like the reviewer. That's what this video is for. For those who use youtube for product purchase decisions. This video helps those apple lovers decide. You should know that there are many people who don't know about this type of technology enough to decide. I know people who have no idea how the echo works unless they get educated on it. Not sure why people don't get that. This applies to many products.

      The pod should connect, that makes it convenient. For its price, its incredibly stupid to not have bluetooth function. Google home mini does more and its price is $50 in australia. The point of being a reviewer is testing things out and finding out compatibility, so you dont have to.

    • @MikeB-sp6gp
      @MikeB-sp6gp 5 лет назад +2

      I thought the review did a great job of giving a heads up to people, like me, who might not know what research to do. I wouldn't have thought of checking for these limitations-- so the review was great for me. That aspect of the products performance is an essential part of its performance, and should be reviewed.

    Hey I just wanted to add a comment here that I'm just recently switched to HomePod At first I thought it was pretty half baked but honestly it's been great for me. I have an echo and i've found myself using the HomePod much more lately. If you're in the apple ecosystem the functionality is great (including apple music). My favorite feature is being able to tell Siri to play music in my other rooms via my apple TV's. I can say "Play this song in the bedroom". Siri turns on my TV and starts playing the tune in sync. Most of the features I use on echo don't work nearly as well. My ecobee thermostat has the worst command syntax. I have to speak at the echo like a computer to get it to do anything. The syntax of the commands you can feed Siri are much more natural than Alexa. I can say "What is the temperature in bedroom" and it gives me a correct response. THE BIGGEST difference though is that HomePod can hear you over anything. Apple really nailed this part of the technology. I don't think any other smart hub does this as well. I can ask HomePod to do things while music is blasting at my regular voice level and it still hears my commands. Alexa I have to scream at to do anything once it's playing. Alexa has more commands and features but to be honest the implementation of them is pretty clunky compared to apples implementation. This all is of course if you're baked into the apple ecosystem. Once music is playing I can control it from my watch etc... it really is a device for those folks.
    Oh yeah and the fact you can ask it contextual music questions now is amazing. If you ask siri to "play hits from 1980" or "play the song with the lyrics blah blah" it works. You can even say "hey siri not that song the other one with that" and it'll pick the next hit. It's pretty amazing actually.

Hope you have better luck with your setup. Thank you for the video.

    June 2019:
    1. Disagree: You were on hold for 2 hours? I’ve called Apple numerous times over the last 9 years, never on hold over 10 minutes. Also: Apple does have a ‘Apple will call you back’ feature which works well. Also- in-store service is almost always 10/10 if you happen to live nearby a store.
    2. Agree: Airpods support Android, Homepod doesn’t- good point.
    3.Disagree: 7:30 ‘should not have to wait for software upgrades’. Try writing software sometime :) As of 2019 MacOS and iOS support the Homepod quite nicely. If ‘hold hardware ‘till software is ready’ was the norm that would be a very different world :)
    4. Both agree/disagree 12:00 ‘not recommended’. Agree in 2018, disagree in 2019.
    5. You’re just wrong :) 13:00 no ‘Homepod 2’ as of June 2019.
    Overall you’re right-on for 2018 as an Android-primary user, and would still be correct for 2019 if you’re Android-primary.
    I expect the Homepod is so good that buyers will ‘try out’ Apple devices… and be compelled to switch over. Yes, for the music-lover & audio-enthusiast the Homepod sounds THAT GOOD.
    Good listening to y’all :)

    Google Home is really-really slow.
    I don't have an issue with how fast it responds to the command but it reacts very slow after that - try to give it multiple commands like "Turn the lights on and turn the lights off ", it takes about 5 seconds after you hear the response...
    Siri on the iPad though, is instant.
    Note: It's because of the very slow processor in Google Home devices - the phone(Galaxy S7) executes the actions as fast as iPad.
