Ohhhh u know it’s gotta be a true bitch!!! Haha Especially when they are that small. Reminds me in Alaska... me and homie walking back into camp... and we ran into four cubs this size... we were so scared the mom was going bust out the woods and attack us! little bastards didn’t pay us any mind... just kept on playing.
& another time - me and another homie were descending a small mt outside anchorage... ran to a brown bear sow and THREE FULL SIZE “CUBS”... almost had heart attack
Alaska is fun.
When you are an apex predator, you can usually afford to play. Often, the most dangerous animal the cubs might run into would be an adult male bear. Momma bears will fight to the death to protect their little ones.
People stopping their cars and allowing this mom and her offspring a safe and relatively stress-free crossing of the street, is as heartwarming as the cute cubs themselves.

"stress free" wouldn't be the word I'd use, danger free maybe, but the noise the cars are making and the roads itself must be a pretty stressful experience
Yeah patience and smart because I'm sure the mama would charge any car and getting your car dented by a bear would be quite the story to tell but not cheap.

I don't really understand why the prancing was cute? It was trying to keep it's claws off the pavement. If anything, it makes me feel worse for the cubs.

I think the real reason for their patience became obvious towards the end of this video when a sheriff's vehicle pulled into the frame 🤣🤣 🤣

Because where they had to go was just SO important that it couldn’t wait a few minutes.

I always thought bears had only two cubs. Poor mama bear, her paws are full.
On average, they have 2 or 3 cubs at a time, but they can have up to 5 cubs in the same litter.
I think we usually only see 2 because the others might have not made it and/or she leaves them to better take care of the two strongest ones. These 4 are still VERY young so it might turn out that eventually she only has 2.
@Infinity nah because bears gestation periods are fairly long - two litters would be very different sizes.

Nursing bears will also sometimes pick up cubs that have been ditched or parents lost or such so may have started with just the two she birthed but then have others she took inn

Exactly what I thinking! I could feel her embarrassment in front of the humans. Can't even handle her own kids, lol. All I could do was laugh and say Oh poor Momma, it will get better when they are a little older. 🤗😹

I feel all the cartoons and films make us attaching human feelings to animals. The bear-mom most likely doesn’t know what the embarrassment means. I think her main concern was to get the cubs to a safe place
It's amazing how they all know that the highway means caution and the mother knows they're holding up traffic and she tries her best to get them as quickly as possible 🥰😍🥰😍🥰
I think she just knows cars/road = danger
in Canada they build wildlife bridges over highways (it has grass. See 'Baniff wildlife overpass') so they can cross safely since so many animals get hit by cars and end up dying. At least where I live, we have urban wildlife but also very large streets (6/7 lanes going 45mph) and you find many dead foxes, bunnies, coyotes, cats, etc
Bears tend to figure out how to navigate roads. They're reasonably smart and roads are straightforward enough.
I pray for the mother and her cubs safety and well-being, may she able to provide good healthy food to her cubs and raise them all till they parted ways.

That is the absolute truth. I felt it. Brought tears to my eyes to see her determination. And the babies were just being babies.
Just listen to a mom trying to get a kid to stay in the cart at WM ..... also last time I as there the kid behind me wanted a candy bar ... mom said no .. and the kid then spent three minutes trying to get me to give him a candy bar ....
this is still, to this day in my 23 years, the cutest thing i've ever seen in my entire life and never fails to make me smile when i'm sobbing my eyes out

That's actually a reflex behavior in young bear cubs when mama isn't close by. Their only defensive mechanism when some land predator or example male bear arrives (males kill young cubs to get their mama in heat again).
Also, when mam bear senses danger, she lets out just one, certain kind of growl and the cubs go up a tree trunk like *zingg*
This applies to all breeds of brown & black bear, even grizzly cubs as their claws grow long and unsuitable to climbing only as they grow older/juvenile.

Bears are interesting creatures.
There's this one NG documentary about black bears in Minnesota/Michigan filmed by french canadian nature photographer where mamma bear dies in traffic crash, one of her cubs disappears (most likely killed by some predator) and the photographer finds the other cub cpl of days later dangling in branches high up in a tree nearby.
He manages to feed the cub condensated milk, peanut paste etc. and keep it alive in the wild.
Later the cub need to be taken to wildlife rescue sanctuary as it grows too familiar towards humans and could be danger to hikers etc. if left in the wild.
Very interesting two-part documentary. I wonder if NatiGeo channel still shows it in reruns.

In areas with animals it is common for people to wait for crossings. No cops needed.
Police had nothing to do with it. When you live in rural New England, things like this are part of life.

In all of them the males and females are always living separately except from the breeding season when they come together to breed and then they separate their ways once again so the fact that the bear was "black" had nothing to do with it. Unless you were trying to say something else...

Lol, in general drivers are super impatient here BUT everyone stops for a row of animals. I wish they would stop for a squirrel or possum too, but turkeys, ducks, deer (when possible), bears etc everyone stops and enjoys the show until they pass.
