If you actually played the rebirth, you already know why Zack is brought back and dev's intention is made load and clear with Marlene. This time, in the final game, Zack will be working with Tifa to retrive Cloud's true memory or ability. In which form? I don't know. But when that happens Could will be awake before Aerith did in slum 5 and this time he will truly save her from the infinite death loop she's been stuck with. There is basically no denial that she will be brought back to life in the final game and there is so many hints on it. Two theme songs, Hollow, NPTK, the Loveless show, fellas, memory flashing, transparent material, and most crucially the multi universe setting. The devs added all these new stuff into the trilogy for only one goal: to finally save Aerith this time.
Watched a lot of videos about the ending and felt like this is definitely the best one about it. A lot of them just repeated telling what happened but you actually added detail to the ending which is appreciated.
Damn those lines “you gonna be ok getting back?” “And if I said I wasn’t?” between Cloud and Aerith at the end was a callback to Remake when he was going to leave her to find Tifa wow
Aerith is one with the lifestream and they’ve made her a literal goddess that is the physical/human representation of the planet, in all realities of the multiverse. Aerith is not one person but a consciousness that has knowledge of all things across all timelines, so Sephiroth can never kill her, he can only kill the human form she’s taken in each universe. Sephiroth(Jenova) has invaded like a cancer, he’s a rogue cell in the blood of the planet, instead of his physical form dying and his consciousness joining the lifestream, he had strong enough willpower to exist within it. Jenova and Sephiroth are one entity at this point, as Jenova is not of the planet, it cannot be properly absorbed in to the lifestream. Sephiroth now understands the true nature of reality (the multiverse) and wants to rule over it, but Aerith and Cloud keep stopping him. All Sephiroth can do is go from reality to reality and kill Aerith dolls, but there are infinite timelines and he will never win. But he’s now found a way to perform a reunion, to merge all timelines in to one. Reunion now refers to the reunion of Jenova cells at the Whirlwind Maze in each individual timeline, and now also the reunion of all timelines. He wants one timeline, one Aerith. Only then can he kill her for good and rule as a god.
At first I thought the Aerith that Cloud sees at the end could be Jenova messing with him but then Red senses her so I threw that theory out. And what you explained it here, it made better sense. She is either from a different timeline or directly from the lifestream.
The only thing I have to say here is Red sending Aerith doesn’t mean it’s actually her, we’ve seen him be manipulated by Jenova before, he gives up the black materia in OG, he’s just a kid he can be manipulated just like cloud. He’s actually very similar to cloud in the way he puts on a different persona to hide his weaker self, so they both may have been deceived.
Red was also experimented on by Hojo so he may have a Jenova cell. What disproves this theory for me is when Aerith said a heartfelt"goodbye" to the party after they left. That is not something Jenova would do.
Pay attention to where Sephiroth is looking when he talks about being unable to see the truth, he is standing behind Cloud looking over Cloud’s shoulder at the other party members he is not looking down at Cloud. Plus during that scene White Whispers have surrounded Cloud and Aerith and created a cloudy rainbow barrier between them and the other party members. Why would the Whispers be circling Aerith if she was dead?
I think we forget Marlene drop the hammer she knows the timeline from Remake after meeting that Aerith. That Cloud didnt save her. Deeper meaning is some can see or know the other outcomes of our her timelines. I of the belief Cloud can now see both timelines happening in real time. One of the OG where she died, the other from the fan fiction she didn't and what would happen in that branch will play out for us. Likely both are essential to saving the overall multiverse while trying to keep Advent Children in Canon.
The trilogy is LITERALLY a sequel to advent children: from the first game you can clearly tell that Aerith and Sephiroth knew what was going to happen in the future and by challenging fate multiple timelines were created so there’s a chance to see Aerith back in the third game in fact she’s alive in Zack’s timeline.
It is not LITERAL. Knowing, understanding and/or perceiving the future does not mean you are FROM the future. It's far more like Dr. Manhattan, who understands that he can perceive himself through many different points in time all at once--- However, he exists in the present. Aerith and Sephiroth have somehow become able to use the lifestream to see and even commune with aspects of themselves across the multiverse-- be they from the past or future
@@John-dd8kh actually, (pondering further for an extra minute)--it may be as simple as the fact that Aerith is an Ancient and this what the Ancients do, so she can too. And on the flip-side of that coin, Jenova, an alien -- and therefore, unable to enter the lifestream-- was powerful enough to damage the planet SO MUCH, that it required the Cetra using the lifestream to help heal the planet and seal her away. But then-- fast forward to Sephiroth -- a being born of THIS PLANET, yet also INFUSED with Jenova juice. This allows him to enter the lifestream upon death, be perserved after "death" (Jenova cells don't let you die, i.e. Lucretia), and then, CORRUPT the lifestream so he can start bending it to his will. In the OG, he did this all behind the scenes. In this remake trilogy, we see him not only directly f***ing with the lifestream, he can now use it to fuel a reunion of worlds. Moreover, the reason Zack and Cloud are so tethered to Sephiroth would be because they don't JUST have Jenova juice-- they got dunked in Sephi-sauce too. I think that's why they have more than a passing, deja vu awareness (like Biggs), and are seemingly capable of creating new branches/timelines with their decisions. Go even FURTHER, and consider that Tifa (having taken a dip in the lifestream), is now possibly hyper aware. Not on Zack and Cloud's level, but definitely more than Biggs was.
I think the part where he looks into the empty materia has a deeper meaning. When he looks through it he sees a flipped image of the world through it. Multiple times in the game they make references to two sides of the same coin, light and dark, good and evil, etc. I think the empty materia will have something to do with seeing into or accessing the other universes. Could be wrong but I think that was a shot they put in there on purpose.
That right there is what it’s all about. Even though it looks bleak right now, Cloud did indeed save her creating a new timeline with the Aerith from rebirth/og residing in it. Sephiroth has the fake materia while Cloud put the real one in his sword. Also if you notice the sky at the end you can see the crack which signifies when a world is nearing it’s end via destruction by meteor and returning to the life stream. Who knows what will happen next, but one things for certain Aerith is still alive and most likely will be able to cast Holy from a safe location for now with Zack being a major component for what’s to come.
@dark_knight_3304 he did save her in a different timeline. She survived in multiple timelines along with Zack. You're the delusional one. "Remake series is a different world" stated by the devs
Devs already gave us the answers, look at stamp the dog. Main timeline = beagle Zack timeline = terrier Zack chooses biggs = pug Aerith dreamworld = collie
There's also the stamp doll that Johnny I'd carrying as he walks past Zack sitting at the church before Sephiroth send him away into the place inbetween realities. Looks to me that there are at least 3 different Zack timelines and at least 2 different Cloud/Aerith timelines (including the Remake/Rebirth timelines).
@@_caustics_ funny you mentioned Zanarkan since FFX was confirmed to be in the same universe as FF7. The kid Shinra in FFX-2 created the same Shinra company in FF7. Question is, which timeline did it create. Of course the devs could just be coy when they said this and that it was merely an Easter egg rather than canon.
I think next game will have segments with Aerith and Zack playable in a separate timeline, given the fact that they need their reunion in my personal opinion. This will be getting Aerith back to clouds universe, maybe Zack ends up merging too? But I can see him as a sacrifice for Aeirth due to how much he loves her.
Thanks a ton!! Yeah I'm firmly in that camp, I see the Jenova/Aerith theory and I'll make a video covering why it would work but that I don't believe it. It's an interesting theory but I like what I've arrived at 😂
Yeah, likely around the end. Both Remake and Rebirth generally follow the same as FF7 timeline with only a few distinction and a big change at the end. So I think the 3rd game they will go exactly like FF7 with difference in Cloud’s mental breakdown and then a Surprise Aerith & Zack near the end.
@novadosetv6201 I think to come to any other conclusion would require some massive ignorance and ignoring the very clear plot points and bread crumbs the writers have set up here. The original main story will play out the same….but the “unknown journey” is going to conclude things very differently I’m an OG fan of the original, favorite game of all time. If I want that experience I’ll always have it, but I want something new and unexpected here. Otherwise what’s the point?
Aerith is still alive in Zack's terrier timeline. We didn't see her wake up yet. She supposed to, since Seph kill Aerith in main timeline. Just like Marlene said.
I think one of my more controversial ideas is that the third game is going to Start with the Northern Crater section, or otherwise an important plot milestone, because Tiny Bronco FLIES. Idk what that would mean for the wider plot, but I have a strong hunch. Additionally, I feel like people forget that Cloud also has a hyper awareness of both the other timelines AND the future (see remake flashbacks), which I feel like is important to consider. I feel like he will have to come to terms with the future memories in addition to his life being fake in the memory sequence. Which, btw, I don't know if Tifa is necessarily going to be the one there with him (mb Zack) The Black Materia is DEFINITELY going to be tied to the Gi plotline, there has been a clear theme of 'righting the wrongs' in the re games, and this just fits right in. The gi plotline in general is. WILD. And it’s also sure to connect with the DoC lore of The Planet/Lifestream being an invasive species travelling through cosmos. Which is ALSO wild. (Deepground is a. Plotpoint that will come up, too) Zack is likely in our timeline, but who knows how his presence will affect Cloud's memory shenanigans. (Massively. We have Zack. Who knows who Cloud really is and what he went through. That's like. A BIG divergence). One thing that I can back up only through weird Remake/Rebirth/OG/Jap original mix of evidence: - multiple Sephiroths. That's it lmao
In the original japanese and in other translations, Aerith actually says she coming back to the forgotten capital, that "this is the home of the Cetra". She physcally went to say goodbye to Cloud and the party and then she will come back to the forgotten capital. Is another instance where the american translation has messed up things.... Here is the entire translation in the spanish version which is based in the japanese one: -Have a nice trip -Would you be able to go back home without problems? -... and if i say i wouldn't?. Don't worry. This is ..... the home of the Cetra. - Ok....But what if something happens and you need help? -Then i'll send up smoke -Allright. Then i'll keep an eye on the horizon. -I'm going to pray all day and night to stop Meteor. And you have some work to do too. -Yes. I have to find Sephirot as soon as possible and stop him. -I know you can do it! -Of course i can.
Great video! I think this theory holds the most weight in terms of what actually happened. One thing I don't really see people really talk about however is how Cloud has the black materia at the end. It isn't really shown in any clear or particular way (probably just so we can figure it out in the next game) how Cloud has it. However it still seems pretty clear to me that Sepiroth uses the key (The black materia Aerith calls a fake) to summon the real one, and then makes Cloud bring it to him. Afterwards Sephiroth tries to kill Cloud and Aerith as their purpose was served by cutting the tendril thing they were on making them fall. My current theory is that Cloud has somehow made his way into the OG or some other timeline and has merged with another version of himself. Between worlds/ timelines if that makes sense. That way Aerith is dead, he has the Black Materia, Cloud still comes off as insane and is seeing things, and the plot can move forward in a similar way to the OG until the end much like Rebirth.
I'm not totally convinced that Aerith who confessed to Cloud is totally gone. Once Aerith used her magic and we see the rainbow again, she might have just created a new world. And that detail about Sephiroth not having his sword aa he walks into the church is a huge thing. It could even be a huge misdirect and actually a different Sephiroth. I have to watch the scene again and again and again.
Great video! If the devs/writers want to bring back Aerith, then the multiple worlds interpretation would be a good way to do it. I think it would create a lot of great future story content for FF7.
Cloud: You gonna be okay getting back? Aerith: And if I said I wasn't? Don't worry, it's like a second home. Aerith only says things here she has already said. When they were supposed to part at Wall Market and the resolution scene in the flower bed back in Remake. Very disturbing. I've never simultaneously hated and felt sorry for Cloud more.
I appreciate you giving your theory in an open-ended manner. I came to mostly the same conclusion-- except for one major caveat.... ....the Aerith that Cloud sees when everyone is sitting by the water (presumably after her burial)....i strongly believe this is Sephiroth. There was such a point made to hammer in that this was how the Cetra were defeated. Jenova can take the form of those you hate or love. In the temple, during the part where the ancients are speaking, they say that she she created discourse between man and Cetra because both were seeing the faces of their deceased loved ones. It was Jenova's greatest weapon against them. During the final fight (Cloud and Aerith v. Sephiroth), Sephiroth taunts Cloud about the fight being a dream of sorts, to which Cloud rebukes him -- he won't fall for the shit anymore, right? But then...when you win the battle...the expression on Sephiroth's face as he looks at Cloud and Aerith...the subtle smile that he always has...i think it might be a clue. I think in this moment, he realizes that it's not enough to whisper in Cloud's ear. The memory of Aerith in Cloud's mind is now more powerful than the memory of Sephiroth -- and i think he realizes this in that moment. They hang on his expression longer than they need to; Cloud even wondering what he's thinking. Once we return back to everyone sitting near the water, we get Cloud having migraine static, and whom does he see? Aerith. But listen to the music at that moment. It's a twisted version of her theme. Why? Why play a creepy version if he is seeing Lifestream Aerith in that moment?? ....because it's NOT Lifestream Aerith. THAT Aerith, is Sephiroth. It's the perfect manipulation. Sephiroth is weaponizing despair. So how do you bring Cloud to ULTIMATE despair? Make him think he is seeing Aerith because he SAVED her. It's not enough for Cloud to think she is alive-- what matters is for Cloud to believe he SAVED her. That they're off to save the world TOGETHER. Then pull it all away to show that he didn't save her and she's dead. Maybe Cloud created a timeline where Aerith lives --- but i don't think it matters at all. Because regardless of that fact, the Aerith he is seeing in this moment is Sephiroth. Here's another nugget. What scene comes directly after they leave the Forgotten City? Rufus and Glenn! We cut right to seeing Sephiroth manipulating Rufus with someone dead. That is not a coincidence. That is foreshadowing. Much like the OG, we can only know she's legit by Aerith telling Cloud a memory from her past that he DOES NOT KNOW
I really like this idea. Moreover, the moment when Sephiroth reveals that Aerith is really dead, and everyone will be looking at Cloud like "DUH!" is right after he delivers the black materia to him and completely loses his mind. He gets completely blocked, traumatized x1000, and ends up in the wheelchair, and its time for Tifa to step up and save the day. Because Remake's Tifa REALLY is showing this personality, she is backing Cloud, besides him, even when it doesnt make sense. She believes more in Cloud than in herself, even when she shouldnt because he is dangerous. The payoff when Cloud reawakens thanks to Tifa's loyalty, and both reunite with 110% determination to end Sephiroth and avenge Aerith is going to be so hype that I am tearing up today just thinking about it!!!
Another detail about different timelines. Stamp the dog were different breeds of dogs. I just beat the game today for the first time and caught how “the date,” without Elmyra and Marlene in the house, timeline had a husky stamp, while remake was a beagle. Biggs had some chips with a completely different breed I think a pug. Perhaps Stamp is short for timestamp.
@5:05 to your argument that Sephiroth doesn’t have his sword when he enters the church with Aerith, as Zack falls and Sephiroth opens the doors, he seemingly does not have his sword anymore.
My partner watched me play and believed Sephiroth at the beginning and thought Tifa was some sort of imposter. It would've made for an interesting twist, but Sephiroth is not a good guy lol. After going "yeah! So how do we know that Tifa is real??" I went "yes because Sephiroth would nEvEr lie, ever!"
@@federicamacchia1656 Excellent observation of detail. Most people who finished the game just assume that Cloud is losing his mind and is not able to cope with the fact that Aerith is dead. But the fact of the matter is that in the temple he did save her but Sephiroth or perhaps jenova using a clone body most likely swapped out the rebirth/og Aerith with one who die from another time stream in an effort to not only demoralize the party but get Cloud more inclined to side with her and his goal a reunion of all life streams to destroy them all. But the thing is which Sephiroth out of all the possibilities in their multiverse is an ally is the question.
@@Mobius-ow7id Is Aerith Who chooses the line in which She dies...,..Cloud really saved her in a line, but this means that the world Will be destroyed,That's why She chooses the rainbow line, the One in which She completes the sacrifiche and the activation of sancta...you see,She thanks Cloud for everything he did for her, then pushed him back in a different line....But,for sure,we know that there Is a line where She's still alive
i agree with this 100% plus it is pretty straight forward. at the end of the day its all withing the lifestream - shown by cloud having a mini mako poisening while being carried - they basically just elaborated on the Dream of the OG - plus zack does "meet" with cloud in advent children and as we know, the triology is supposed to tie into that
7:09 In addition to this, wouldn't "breaking the boundaries of fate" be what happened at the end of Remake, with the Whisper boss fight before the Sephiroth fight? Also, my biggest issue here is the differences with the black materia. How did it go from being THE TEMPLE in the og game to now something stuck between worlds?
**IMPORTANT DETAIL**SPOILER The Aerith that had the Final Date with Cloud is nowhere to be seen after she gave the White Materia and pushed Cloud into the gap (The one with the FLOWER PIN) not the same Aerith that helps Cloud at the end OR at the end of the GAME. That Aerith has fully dissapeared after pushing CLOUD into the gap. OG Aerith I can almost assure is gone. One Aerith is saved (not OG) and note that WORLDS came be MERGED as confirmed by Sephiroth and ZACK and we can see worlds merging on Sephiroth monologue. So there's a chance to see Aerith or the AERITH that's in love with Cloud but not OG Aerith.
If you look closely, when Cloud is parrying Sephiroth's attack, Sephiroth's attack landed not exactly on above Aerith. I don't know maybe the whispers redirected it.
13:38 when Zack goes back, you can see the church that quite different. It's not the same church that we know. Also, Aerith did say the only a Cetra can defeat Sephiroth. So why it's Cloud that's going to stop Sephiroth?
I have to admit, I only beat the game recently and I was quite annoyed at the ending to begin with but now I’m more open to it. It helps that this was easily the most fun I’ve had playing a FF game since FFX. Minus the ending (which is growing on me) I loved every bit of it.
Also, what did Sephiroth actually do in the forgotten capital? It's like he summoned the meteor and then absorbed it like he did in the final fight of Remake. That scene was shot-for-shot. And then he says "It's upon us. The Reunion". So what was he actually doing there? Was he merging the timelines?
"I saw what you did back there. Thank you." As in, she witnessed what happened but did not personally experience it. So she's probably a different Aerith than the one who was saved/killed at the altar. Sephiroth wants/needs Cloud to know Aerith is dead. He needs Cloud's despair to maintain control over him. Since we see lifestream emanating around "dead" Aerith when she speaks to Cloud, I'm guessing she's trying to shield him from that event until he's more mentally able to handle it. Tifa may, or may not, be aware of the full extent of the situation based on previous dialogues with Aerith. I think that, on some level, Cloud is aware that Aerith is dead. He only speaks to her when they are out of earshot. He also gently lays her down when he goes to confront Sephiroth. Not something you'd need to do if she was alive and aware. There's also the surprise on his face when her hand touches his face. Up until that moment, he was ready to cry. One thing I'd be curious about is the final date segment. I don't think anything in there was arbitrary. That includes the 3 times you have to choose between 3 options. And, no matter your choice, it's always an unknown 4th option that plays out. I just can't figure out if there is a thematic reason or a mechanical one for it. Maybe I'm just overthinking it and it really is just an inconsequential addition to the scene.
9:07 Go frame by frame. You are right. Another timeline is created right there, cause the rainbow effect can be seen, but only very slightly. One thing I don't understand tho. In this cutscene the entrace is blocked off by Sephiroth's whispers. But they also make an opening when Cloud called out Aerith's name, but why? Why do Sephiroth's whispers react to Cloud saying "Aerith". I don't understand. And also why do Sephiroth's whispers make an opening when they are closing it off in the first place? Maybe Aerith is somehow being manipulated or possesed by Sephiroth/Jenova?
I think that may be the red herring, I feel like this ending sets up Zack and Aerith to be together for the majority of the next game, and Tifa has already been built up WAY too much to not be the one to heal cloud, they gave her a whole weapon scene it would be dumb if they ditched this idea
@@youhaveayds8975You just contradicted Marlene’s foreshadowing which she got from Aerith with full knowledge of what’s about to happen… Zack’s purpose is to cure Cloud so that Cloud saves Aerith.
Yup Aerith is alive and will stay that way this time. They want to give her a happy ending this time plus an alive Aerith can bring in more revenue with more spinoff ff7 movies or games later.
Actually, it's impossible to know what the creators want to do. All we know for sure is that Aerith is both dead and alive, in multiple timelines. No one knows for sure what timeline we will be in by the end.
@@amd8365true but there was no point and I mean NO POINT in that entire end sequence of Remake with “defying destiny” if we can’t save Aerith or prevent the “bad ending” of FF7 which is humanity being wiped out within 500 years as seen in the flash forward.
Good video! Had a great time watching it. Another thing to note about the rift in the sky: the recent patch to Remake suggests that Aerith could see it since at least remake’s ending (she now says: “the sky… I don’t like it”)
Regarding the 2nd black materia. In the OG the temple if i remember correctly was the black materia. Cait Sith sacrifices himself and once the temple folds in on itself the only thing left in its place is the materia. So maybe the 2nd one shows the temple was the materia just like in the OG and the pedestal was a fake.
Great video! I agree with you on all of this. I would like Aerith to come back and be playable for part 3. I can imagine them going between timelines to one where she is in playable, perhaps a shattered world, which will also make revisiting old locations worth it because they will be changed. My reasoning for this was they held out giving us her great gospel limit break, etc which I thought was a very strange choice. Leads me to think she will still be playable!
I believe the Sephiroth walking into the church was the same one that sent Zack into an alternate timeline because Sephiorth travels w/o his sword quiet often. I.E. Nibelheim. Then to only have it instantly reappear.
Perhaps in this alternate timeline at 2:46 (potentially the future), Aerith survives, and Sephiroth continues to hunt her. In this timeline, the activation of the meteor signifies Sephiroth's success in summoning the black materia. However, he still needs to eliminate Aerith due to the presence of the white materia. Being aware of the concept of a "multiverse timeline," he understands the persistent threat posed by the white materia across multiple timelines.
My guess is that, they wouldn't have bothered to show US the audience, about the creation/existence of multiple timelines with Zack unless it was going to have an actual reason. That is why I think Aerith at the end is timeline branch Aerith (or possibly OUR Aerith, transferred over into her AU self, similar to how Cloud seemingly jumped into his AU body in the earlier chapter. It's why we see OUR Aerith fade away at the end of the final fight but then wake up, that's why I don't think she's just a 'force ghost' as there would have been no reason to 'wake up' after she faded away). NOW why Cloud can see this AU is a mystery, he was the only one behind the whisper wall, he's 'traveled' to au before and he's holding a 'hollow' white materia. Any of these could be the catalysts for why he can see this. I think it is important to know that what we see at the end is OUR Cloud (the one we've been following') is experiencing the 'she lived' timeline while everyone else is experiencing her death. I think Aerith is still separated from the group in her AU/World and it is unlikely if she can/will be able to return to them. It's still kind of a sad ending that while she is safe, it happened at the cost of being separated from the people she cared about, but still had to do it to keep them safe. I also think Cloud seeing these different realities may be the reason for others to see his behavior as further deteriorating
It also ties in with her speech in Cosmo Canyon where she talks about her being a Cetra, the hardships it created, but the people she met and the friends she connected with. Her being separated from the rest of the team is still very much an important element and profoundly sad
The only time meteor is mentioned is by Aeris at the end. I kind of wonder if the Black Materia is for something else. I think the clear Holy will become whole again when Cloud starts to remember things.
Just pointing out Barrett doesn’t see blood but immediately rushes Sephiroth and Tifa doesn’t see blood at first but she stops and looks at Aerith more closely then that Static affect happens and she is suddenly seeing blood.
The only thing I really disagree with you on is the tear in the sky at the end. I think this is a sign that cloud is just seeing both worlds. He's living in between the reality where he saved her and the main timeline where she died. It's just like how he saw a different aerith when the entire group walks up to her dead body
"Aerith does survive in another timeline" -- I might be misunderstanding, but as a result of this event, I really don't think Aerith physically lives in any. I do think she lives as part of the lifestream/ghost form like OG. My interpretation is as cloud deflects the sword putting the "main" timeline to one that allows Aerith to live, it was for but a moment as Sephiroth somehow manages to collapse the OG timeline's result to this one. After Cloud deflects Masamune, two timelines are depicted. The OG, where we get static glimpses into Aerith physically dying since we see blood on her stomach and hands as Cloud mutters his grief "she won't laugh or cry, etc..", and this newly created timeline that we are in where Aerith is unfazed but is lying dead anyways. This is heavily reinforced when we see Tifa run up to them. She sees two timelines simultaneously, one with blood (OG), and one without (ours), but the results are the same -- Aerith lies unconscious. The point I'm trying to make is we are in this newly created timeline, visually depicted by Aerith without blood, but Aerith is still dead. Right after Aerith falls in our timeline, due to the hypothesized convergence of OG's result, Sephiroth says 'Confluence of worlds' -- narrating exactly just that. It's clear Sephiroth has new time controlling powers as we see him split Zack from Cloud later.
You started your explanation one scene late. Right before Cloud and Aerith are back in Aerith's house was the scene when they fall to their deaths from the branch that Sephiroth cuts off. Sephiroth was never at the Temple of the Ancients. No one sees him other than Cloud, and possibly Aerith. Even when Sephiroth picks up the Black Materia, he just rolls it back to Cloud. That's why Cloud still has it. Sephiroth also wasn't at the altar. No on saw him kill aerith except for Cloud. Cloud kills Aerith while being puppeted by Sephiroth, and then alters his memory.
This is amazing tq for the explanation! Wondering wdyt on why Cloud manages to create a timeline when he clashes swords with Sephiroth but is not able to prevent the death in that particular timeline...oh and wdyt about Arieth's comment on saying thank you Cloud "I saw what you did back there" like was she an audience to that as a human (did lifestream Arieth or the Plot ghosts show human Arieth or was it a lifestream Arieth?)
Aerith is powerful enough to travel from another tune line and join the team later in the game. They want us to feel her loss and they will probably lay it on thick to make sure we feel it.
One thing I think the remake trilogy is doing very good is showing the mental degradation of Cloud and how Sephiroth's control over him is increasing, to lead to the delivering of the Black Materia at the Northern Crate
Reunion. When worlds merge where at least in one of those world some characters live/survive. Example zack aerith jessie biggs wedge glenn and so on. When they merge they will all be alive in one singular timeline. Reunite again. Thus. Reunion. Goddammnnnnn 😱
I think he has the black materia because the party are all in OG timeline now with rebirth aerith alive in a doomed rebirth-remake timeline [sky rip] I think zack was pulled into OG timeline which is why church pews are there [when cloud is pushed into flower bed they disappeared] The part 3 goal will be to save the doomed timeline, i hope
I think so, I can see it playing out very similarly to OG to start but I have a hunch when Cloud falls into the life stream with Tifa it could be where the story starts changing drastically and we finish with a very different ending to OG.
@@RyanOstrowski-eh6ft He is remembering himself just like OG. She was there yes, but he did it. I never said she wasn't gonna help him remember without lying this time. We also have Zack who can help him too. SE don't care, lots of people will still buy it, cuz they don't know that, that scene is gone, over.
@@kittylovemeowswell, we'll see, because her conversation with cloud after she woke up from cloud's dizzy attack I'm 99% sure the scene where Tifa helps Cloud finding his true self will be played as it is, don't worry so much on your ship gurl lol
Good video, though i still think he is crazy and he dosent really see Aerith, i personally think its jenova/seph playing tricks on him. I mean look at the scene where they are all sad just after the fight, you cant tell me Aerith looks/sounds weird?, and that last scene you see with her and cloud she literally just says rehashed stuff from remake and throughout rebirth "Jenova is literally using the memories of Aerith in cloud agaisnt him. Its as Sephiroth said jenova will take form of the ones you hate, fear, love and the Cetra said the same thing. Lastly if you noticed before barret gets on the tiny bronco he looks at Tifa, and she dosent say a word to cloud at all since Aerith dying. Its almost like they can see he isnt right in the head. Just my take anyway cant wait for part 3!
I watched Maximilian Dood's stream too and this is his take damn near word for word. I still don't agree with it, I think podcast Now's theory is correct. That being said I do like Max's theory, and I wouldn't be surprised if jenova/Sephiroth mess with cloud this way in the next game.
We know it can’t be him hallucinating from Jenova because Red 13 sensed her presence too. Also cloud sees the rip in the sky where the new reality was created when she was saved. And don’t forget the rainbow prism showing up. I think the ppl taking away that it’s just hallucinations just really want the OG to stay the same, but honestly you’d have to ignore a ton of new plot elements to get there. I think this video has it as about as close to what is going on.
totally disagree, so why is it cloud is the only one that can see this so called rift? i guess ur going to say because Aerith did something so he could see it? Even when no one else can. If that really is Aerith why dose she only say stuff that she has literally said before like word for word. my bet is its because it is seph/jenova using her as a memory. Whats to say Red feeling Aeriths presence isnt Jevova messing with him? just like in OG when seph/jenova tricks red into giving the black materia away. It has allready been done that Jenova can do these things. @@theonecalledlamorak6446
@@novadosetv6201 It’s to illustrate that Cloud has a foothold in one reality where she’s alive and one where she’s dead and is experiencing both at the same time. He’s the only party member besides Aerith who has been traversing timelines so he’s sensitive to it. In OG Jenova does trick party members but those are also physical manifestations from the black robbed figures, the Aerith walking around at the end is not a black robbed figure it was clearly implied to be her. Don’t forget about the rainbow light that shows up whenever a new branching reality is formed, I’m noticing your conveniently leaving that out of your analysis. No one can say their theory is 100% correct at this time as its purposely trying to be ambiguous for the sake of keeping interest but it doesn’t make sense to put all these plot points there and then to all the sudden throw them out on a whim. I understand you’re not seeing it but that’s the way a lot of us are interpreting it based on all the bread crumbs the developers are leaving behind.
Having Aerith come back is something they should really look into here. In the OG there really wasn't a reason to bring her back or a way to do it that made any sense. Here we have her literally (after trying not to for 2 straight games) telling Cloud how she feels about him (In most languages she straight up says I love you). Zack knows Aerith loves him from Marlene. Tifa is probably going to find out in the lifestream scene in part 3. There is so much more at stake in the Remakes then just sephiroth and the meteor. They have so many more reasons to bring her back and making it viable. Plus do you guys know how boring the game is going to be now without Aerith in the party? OMG it's going to be terrible unless Yuffie carries the game. Tifa is a piece of wood, Barret is awesome but really just a bash down the door guy, Red is knowledge, Vincent is Cloud but more emo, Cid has had a complete overhaul, Cait Sith is pretty interesting, and Yuffie is the only one beaming with life.
The Good guys MUST win this! After thoose director shinras arrogance the last games then they need karma And with Fate shown to change, the planet can be saved if the heroes fate can be changed to protectors of it Even explained though this is ending is so difficult to process. But one sad thing but me. If Cloud thinks Aerith is alive, and the other do not, then, maybe Clouds mental breakdown will be even more heartbreaking because the others cannot trust him anymore after everything. And then, maybe it will be a Lifestream Aerith that guides them all to see who Cloud was and always have been. Making peace with each others. Either way, I feel Aerith, regardless of she is a timezone or Lifestream will acend to become a good god with the help of the white whisperers. Maybe like Minerva. And Zack will become the protector, the knight of that goddess
Everyone sees Aerith dead in timeline 1, but Cloud sees her alive. So because the "boundaries of fate were breached" it made another timeline where Cloud indeed saved her, which would be timeline 2. And somewhere there's a timeline 3 which involves Zack? From what I'm understanding (and it's not much) it seems that Cloud is caught in a world where all timelines converge? Or it's all jenova?!?!.. Aeriths dead to everyone (she's alive to him) the tear in the sky (only he can see it) ... Just me trying to piece it all together 😅 great video
Aerith like Sephiroth used thr kifestream to go back... When Sephy said "I will never be a memory." I believe he had a plan already seeing how disjoined two years passed why couldnt he connect to the past? Aerith wouldnt let him jusf go to the oast so she went and this caused the purple glow in the beginning of Remake. Sephiroth arrived. Aerith in the begining i believe saw exactly what happened because OG Aerith shared her memories with Now Aerith. To seperate OG ill just refer to her as Aeris and Now as Aerith. So Aerith knowing what would happen with Cloud tells him "No matter what you cant fall in love with me." Trying to change fate because she knows that until Clouds Jenova cells are destroyed and or removed Jenova will always find a way into the life stream. To make things more tragic than the original, Cloud will have to go the way of the Gi... Nevwr to return to the planet... Meaning he and Aerith are destined to always be apart. Just my theory. Sephiroth when Meteor and the Lifestream clashed, we have seen several times now Sephiroth being in the middle of meteor coming down, that was thr vessel he used to sail the cosmos that raw energy of voth colliding. However, plot twist... Sephiroth before the end will be redeemed as a hero, as I believe he too has been fooled by Jenova, and maybe talking to his real mom Lucticia (sorry for spelling it wrong?) will help wake him up from Jenova. However I hope im wrong and they just leave him as thr butn yhe world kinda guy because thats why we fell in love with him.
I also want to say I believe Aeris been in direct control over these events. This timeline will become the MAIN timeline and the promise at the end is we will see Aerith return. Too many people would be upset if they didn't kill her in rebirth but they did both... Saved and killed her. I love the 4d chess going on!
Okay here me out guys. Spirit Aerith from og can open portal to different timeline. We could see that with Zack being saved in the end. What if in the rebirth timeline Aerith was actually saved. What if the rainbow color means a portal opening and and switching Aerith from OG timeline and Rebirth. This is done to fool Seph. The reason i am going this route cuz I saw that the way Speh sword landed in Rebirth after being deflected in kinda straight but when the switching happens the sword is little bit towards the side. My theory is that both his sword and Aerith was switched to make Seph believe that she died. What we see now in the rebirth time line is infact her spirit of the og timeline. The part where Cloud says to wake up what if like the youtuber said a different timeline except its not the rebirth timeline but the og version. The youtuber got that part jumbled😮. Well i haven’t played the game so I may be wrong but if I was a script writer this would be the best twist i can think off. In the final fight where Aerith joins cloud against Seph, that could either be the rebirth version which is alive or the spirit version. I m leaning towards the spirit version since seph does say he underestimated her. Meaning it was the spirit versions entire plan. Ohh well. We will find out soon.
Wait a minute, if he successfully blocked the sword, then wouldn't that make the alive Aerith the main one? The one who was killed would still be the same one for all intents and purposes, but the block created the split, not the other way around.
The mako poisoning essentially gives Cloud schizophrenia. He has the lifestream inside him, so he is seeing other realities from different worlds since all these different worlds are spawned from the same lifestream. I don't think Aerith is actually there at the end, only her spirit. Cloud is basically hallucinating due to the mako poisoning. Seeing what happened in a different timeline and unable to differentiate between them due the mako merging the memories together in his brain.
Finally, someone who gets it and isn't all "it has to be like og and there is no defying fate, Cloud didn't really save her".
Not sure about this but interesting thoughts
Watched a lot of videos about the ending and felt like this is definitely the best one about it. A lot of them just repeated telling what happened but you actually added detail to the ending which is appreciated.
Agreed.
Brilliant!
This is it
This
At first I thought the Aerith that Cloud sees at the end could be Jenova messing with him but then Red senses her so I threw that theory out. And what you explained it here, it made better sense. She is either from a different timeline or directly from the lifestream.
IMO Aerith at the end has way too much 'agency' to just be a jenovah hallucination or even just a delusion. It is clearly AERITH is some capacity.
Would go with diff timeline since Zack could touch Aeriths hand like a foreshadowing.
i think it could be both tbh
The only thing I have to say here is Red sending Aerith doesn’t mean it’s actually her, we’ve seen him be manipulated by Jenova before, he gives up the black materia in OG, he’s just a kid he can be manipulated just like cloud. He’s actually very similar to cloud in the way he puts on a different persona to hide his weaker self, so they both may have been deceived.
Red was also experimented on by Hojo so he may have a Jenova cell. What disproves this theory for me is when Aerith said a heartfelt"goodbye" to the party after they left. That is not something Jenova would do.
i believe the aerith we see in the dream is the original 97 aerith, she also shows up in the remake during the “you cant fall in love with me” scene
Why would the Whispers be circling Aerith if she was dead?
a lot to think about,my friend...
Red said advent will be ditched
@@zacatkinson3926 I remember them saying that
The trilogy is LITERALLY a sequel to advent children: from the first game you can clearly tell that Aerith and Sephiroth knew what was going to happen in the future and by challenging fate multiple timelines were created so there’s a chance to see Aerith back in the third game in fact she’s alive in Zack’s timeline.
@@CERap22”somehow” exactly
Just a slight note. Zacks timeline gets hit by meteor so she is probably not alive there
It was already said by the devs the 3rd will end where Advent children begins
So glad to hear someone acknowledge that the black material was just in his pocket. The theories on that were crazy
This is just how convex lens work
Two sides...one side is light. One side is dark. Do you want to know a secret?
"I saw what you did back there Cloud, Thank you"
That right there is what it’s all about.
This is what i have been saying all along. Cloud breached the fate and created a parallel world where he saved Aerith.
@@Mobius-ow7id multiverse is real
@@Mobius-ow7idhe didn’t save her he is thanking her for attempting to save her you guys are making a lot out of nothing
@dark_knight_3304 he did save her in a different timeline. She survived in multiple timelines along with Zack. You're the delusional one. "Remake series is a different world" stated by the devs
Devs already gave us the answers, look at stamp the dog.
Main timeline = beagle
Zack timeline = terrier
Zack chooses biggs = pug
Aerith dreamworld = collie
Absolutely. They're a great indicator. Wonder what the mascot is in the world that Aerith survives 😂😉
Chrono Cross x7, or Zanarkand. Classic Square stories

It’s nice to see someone else gets it :-)
I think the ‘alive” Aerith is going to be a big part in the next game. Good video!
Thanks a ton!! Yeah I'm firmly in that camp, I see the Jenova/Aerith theory and I'll make a video covering why it would work but that I don't believe it. It's an interesting theory but I like what I've arrived at 😂
Na she dead son!@@PodcastNow
Yeah, likely around the end. Both Remake and Rebirth generally follow the same as FF7 timeline with only a few distinction and a big change at the end. So I think the 3rd game they will go exactly like FF7 with difference in Cloud’s mental breakdown and then a Surprise Aerith & Zack near the end.
@novadosetv6201
I think to come to any other conclusion would require some massive ignorance and ignoring the very clear plot points and bread crumbs the writers have set up here. The original main story will play out the same….but the “unknown journey” is going to conclude things very differently
I’m an OG fan of the original, favorite game of all time. If I want that experience I’ll always have it, but I want something new and unexpected here. Otherwise what’s the point?
Yeah, I've just kinda got it now, how Aerith died is the same how Zack died, and how Aerith is alive is the same as how Zack is alive.
Which, btw, I don't know if Tifa is necessarily going to be the one there with him (mb Zack)
The Black Materia is DEFINITELY going to be tied to the Gi plotline, there has been a clear theme of 'righting the wrongs' in the re games, and this just fits right in. The gi plotline in general is. WILD. And it’s also sure to connect with the DoC lore of The Planet/Lifestream being an invasive species travelling through cosmos. Which is ALSO wild. (Deepground is a. Plotpoint that will come up, too)
Zack is likely in our timeline, but who knows how his presence will affect Cloud's memory shenanigans. (Massively. We have Zack. Who knows who Cloud really is and what he went through. That's like. A BIG divergence).
One thing that I can back up only through weird Remake/Rebirth/OG/Jap original mix of evidence:
- multiple Sephiroths.
Here is the entire translation in the spanish version which is based in the japanese one:
-Have a nice trip
-Would you be able to go back home without problems?
-... and if i say i wouldn't?. Don't worry. This is ..... the home of the Cetra.
- Ok....But what if something happens and you need help?
-Then i'll send up smoke
-Allright. Then i'll keep an eye on the horizon.
-I'm going to pray all day and night to stop Meteor. And you have some work to do too.
-Yes. I have to find Sephirot as soon as possible and stop him.
-I know you can do it!
-Of course i can.
That can still be read as returning to the lifestream
Og Aerith
[Remake Aerith w/ awareness/Holy
Rebirth Aerith without holy/mem]
Coma Aerith
Omni Aerith / Holy
Lifestream Aerith
Not Aerith / Jenova
Another cool way to tell we are in a different timeline is the summons don't pull the enemy into their domain anymore
Great video! If the devs/writers want to bring back Aerith, then the multiple worlds interpretation would be a good way to do it. I think it would create a lot of great future story content for FF7.
There's also her Princess Guard ultimate weapon.
As long clouds alive sephiroth will always be around.
The limit break observation blew my mind! Great catch.
More videos, for sure.
😢 Aerith not able to keep traveling with the crowd break my heart
The post-game chapter select is a pain in the balls. Why not just let us travel around, cleaning up undone side-quests with the Bronco?
I’ve watched videos dedicated to final fantasy only and I can say you still have the best breakdown of the ending explained
“While Sephiroth isn’t the most reliable source of info” this murdered me 😭😭🤣
My partner watched me play and believed Sephiroth at the beginning and thought Tifa was some sort of imposter. It would've made for an interesting twist, but Sephiroth is not a good guy lol. After going "yeah! So how do we know that Tifa is real??" I went "yes because Sephiroth would nEvEr lie, ever!"
Carefull.....there are different Sephiroths in this story....and One of them Is not our enemy...Pay much attention and you'll able to see which one
But the thing is which Sephiroth out of all the possibilities in their multiverse is an ally is the question.

i agree with this 100% plus it is pretty straight forward. at the end of the day its all withing the lifestream - shown by cloud having a mini mako poisening while being carried - they basically just elaborated on the Dream of the OG - plus zack does "meet" with cloud in advent children and as we know, the triology is supposed to tie into that
7:09 In addition to this, wouldn't "breaking the boundaries of fate" be what happened at the end of Remake, with the Whisper boss fight before the Sephiroth fight?
Did anyone else feel dread coming up to the final scene seeing Aerith pray? LIke my mind was going crazy wondering if she was going to die or not.
What a roller coaster of emotions this game was
I just beat ff7 og. I am so excited to see what they come up with for part 3. So much story and exploration left.🤩☄️
Great work, as always!
The worst possible outcome could be Zack fixing Clouds mind not Tifa. Though that's the so bad it's good scenario as it is logical.
I think that may be the red herring, I feel like this ending sets up Zack and Aerith to be together for the majority of the next game, and Tifa has already been built up WAY too much to not be the one to heal cloud, they gave her a whole weapon scene it would be dumb if they ditched this idea
@@youhaveayds8975 the one thing I want with Zack is him seeing Cissnei

I dont think Part 3 will be called Reunion because it was the subtitle for Crisis Core. They really should've used something else for that
Yup Aerith is alive and will stay that way this time. They want to give her a happy ending this time plus an alive Aerith can bring in more revenue with more spinoff ff7 movies or games later.
Yep.
Congrats you got it
Actually, it's impossible to know what the creators want to do.
Better said than most theories online
This is the best breakdown so far i think you got it dude
The only time meteor is mentioned is by Aeris at the end. I kind of wonder if the Black Materia is for something else. I think the clear Holy will become whole again when Cloud starts to remember things.
Ok that Tifa connection is incredible. I did not piece that together till now.
Just pointing out Barrett doesn’t see blood but immediately rushes Sephiroth and Tifa doesn’t see blood at first but she stops and looks at Aerith more closely then that Static affect happens and she is suddenly seeing blood.
Great analysis and breakdown. Thank you.
Crazy ass story 😅 I'm here for it though. Just don't wanna wait 4more years for it to finish.
Loved this! Would love to hear what you think will happen in the next game.
Cloud kills Aerith while being puppeted by Sephiroth, and then alters his memory.
per usual our theories align, great video Alex!
I like the way you explained this
This is amazing tq for the explanation!
1:57 I need an explanation of how their hair styles, and Aeriths clothing aren't the same. I only see differences in cloud's shoulder guard.
Aerith' hair when laying in Zacks bed is down, it's up when she wakes cloud up.
She could have put it up.
Crisis Core was called Reunion. The Third game will be Final Fantasy VII Revival.
Why does sephiroth want to reunite the timelines when he was the one to split them in the first place? Am I missing something?
Man I finally understand what happened ^^!!!! Thank you!!!!
Is there a different between one winged sephiroth and non winged sephiroth?
It absolutely won’t be called reunion because Crisis Core already used the Reunion title.
How is the black materia fake when Sephiroth literally held it in the air and used it to open a portal that whispers come out?
is tifa going to save cloud from mako poisoning and repair his mind in the lifestream in part 3
I think so, I can see it playing out very similarly to OG to start but I have a hunch when Cloud falls into the life stream with Tifa it could be where the story starts changing drastically and we finish with a very different ending to OG.
The lifestream scene is done, over, it won't be happening again. Tife did it alone this time.
@@kittylovemeows you do know that if tifa doesn't save cloud in part 3 then no one else is going to buy part 3

That being said I do like Max's theory, and I wouldn't be surprised if jenova/Sephiroth mess with cloud this way in the next game.
its awesome we can make theroies like this though! such a good game regardless!@@Lash-D
After thoose director shinras arrogance the last games then they need karma
And with Fate shown to change, the planet can be saved if the heroes fate can be changed to protectors of it
Even explained though this is ending is so difficult to process.
My guess on the 3rd games name is reunited , not reunion
Everyone sees Aerith dead in timeline 1, but Cloud sees her alive. So because the "boundaries of fate were breached" it made another timeline where Cloud indeed saved her, which would be timeline 2. And somewhere there's a timeline 3 which involves Zack? From what I'm understanding (and it's not much) it seems that Cloud is caught in a world where all timelines converge? Or it's all jenova?!?!.. Aeriths dead to everyone (she's alive to him) the tear in the sky (only he can see it) ... Just me trying to piece it all together 😅 great video
She's dead dead sephiroth pretty much hunts her down across all the time lines. Pretty sure to the Aerith cloud sees is fake but who knows
Aerith used her white materia at the end of the last game??? I dont remeber that, which moment are you talking about?
It’s also defined the alternate time lines by at least 4 different patch dogs
Spot the different Stamps. Beagle, Yorkshire Terrier, "Wolf pup", and Pug.
Im certain the 3rd game is ‘Reclaim’ it’s hinted throughout the game said by multiple characters.
Such as…
But what happened to aireths body in the main game?
Cloud also have vision when cell jenova in his body and same with zack. But as we know cloud always delusional even in OG thinking he is Zack.
Thanks!
O thanks a ton man, truly. Hope you like it!!
I hope she lives, I'd love to see her with a happier ending.
@ 0:38: Sephiroth is many things, a liar isn't one of them
Maybe Zack got to the rebirth timeline at the end?
