This is the best of the best. No one like Baryshnikov! The generation today has no idea how hard it is to perform ballet....especially this effortlessly!!
This is the absolute best version of this EVER! I was surprised to see it's a totally different choreography than every one else dances! The costumes were perfect, having her in the long flowing diaphanous gown made this so much more elegant and wistful, and there's just no topping Baryshnikov(sigh)❤
I have yet to see this much chemistry and expression in other ballet dances She portrays her dreaminess in her moves and how she does not want to wake up. So much to see in this beautiful unique and timeless rendition. ❤
Wow, I had never seen this version before. I wasn't sure at first about there being three people in this final dance. But it is actually a really interesting idea to show her struggling to stay in the dream as she is slowly waking. I thought maybe there should have been a bit more of her dancing just with the Nutcracker. Generally I love the Pas de Deux with Clara and the Nutcracker as opposed to the Sugar Plum Fairy. Seems much more meaningful. The whole thing is Clara's dream after all, and the music in this scene is so beautiful that she deserves to dance to it with her dream prince! :)
Such a timeless performance. Gelsey Kirkland is so slight, both men have her airborne much of the time, seemingly effortlessly. The music, of course, is sublime, but perhaps what is most interesting about this rendition of the pas de deux is that it's a pas de trois. Superb.
This is the grand payoff of the Baryshnikov Nutcracker. It is a wonder of insightful storytelling and seamless dancing. Clara's spirit soars, and barely registers any adjustments while handed from partner to partner. There is much to admire in the whole televised version (available on DVD), but it suffers the usual problem of all filmed ballets that lack interaction with an audience - a sameness of energy wanting the punctuation of laughter, cheers, and applause. Still, this pas de deux (or pas de trois?) stands out as a brilliant conception- - with Alexander Minz as Drosselmeier lending great dignity to Clara's coming-of-age dance. I very much enjoy how Kirkland spirals down at the end into a comfort-seeking embrace - rather than a common but artificial triumphant posture.
The videotaped version cannot compare with the live performance, which I had the infinite pleasure of attending more than once. But it helps bring wonderful memories of two gifter ballet dancers.
this is the most beautifully staged and danced of alllll the Nutcrackers ever produced.
Can’t watch any other version of the Nutcracker ❤️ this one blows the rest out of the water.

Kirkland will forever be my favourite ballerina. I can't see anyone being able to match her.
❤

It will be a 1000 years before anyone has the slightest a chance of performing this scene better than what was captured in time here

Барышников - уникум! Таких больше нет.
Baryshnikov es uno de los más extraordinarios bailarines que tuvimos posibilidad de ver.
So beautiful. Gelsey is an intoxicating dancer.
This is the most beautiful and delicate version 🥰🥰🥰
The best dancer ever!!! Love Misha!!!
Marcela Lopez how graceful his hands are
A master piece, i watched over and over again

This is such a lovely performance. The dancers are superb, Clara's dress is stunning the way it swirls with her movements. So delicate and sweet.

I’m not much of a ballet fan. This is a beautiful performance that is so relaxing to watch. Thank you for posting it on RUclips.
Have watched this over and over. So beautiful. The ABT is now at "home" in "my" theater.
This is the Ultimate
Remember well this performance
Для меня эталоном этого балета является дуэт Максимовой и Васильева . Лучшего «Щ елкунчика» невозможно даже представить. Действительно, балет- сказка.

Though she is no Cardi B, Gelsey is my favorite dancer.
maravilloso
👍😎💓
Like the San Francisco ballet version better
this version is not so exciting.
