A little thought for the folks that question the wisdom of using lower dosages of nitrogen more frequently: In a purely natural environment, the available nitrogen in the soil from decomposing organic matter and other sources rarely exceeds %3 - so a low concentration fertilizer more closely matches what the plants are accustomed to. 🌳👍
That's a great point about potted plants and how the nutrients leech out the bottom vs. the ground that can have the leeching slowed by natural impediments.
I don't have the water soluble fert but I put some of my organic, granular fertilizer in a one gallon jug and let it sit for several days. I bought a bunch of bags of the organic, granular on clearance so I have a LOT. Then I pour some of that into a watering can and fill the remainder of the can with water. It's been working.
@@keyphabenyisrael3219 What I used was the Expert Gardener Organics Tomato and Vegetable (the N-P-K numbers are 3-5-6). The bags that I got were 17 pounds and I believe they were marked down to $3.50. At the same time I got 1 gallon jugs of the Alaska brand fish emulsion for $1. The weird thing is that the quart bottles of the same brand fish emulsion were more expensive than the 1 gallon jugs... go figure (no real difference in the expiration dates on either the 1 gallon jugs or quart bottles). Perfect timing for this video Scott. I am starting the fertilization today. The last plants for the summer garden went in a week ago (mostly flowers) and I am waiting on some seeds to pop up to fill in empty spaces. Now its time in 5b to switch from building the garden to maintaining it. I have a few options for fertilizer. Fish Emulsion, a concoction I am making with water and pelleted chicken manure, and I am starting a bucket of fetid brew from weeds. Also in Texas, when you mentioned all the rain, and feeding now before there's another week of rain, I paused the video to go feed my own garden because I forgot to this morning! lol. Don't know why I never though of just doing it with a 5 gallon bucket and re-used sour cream container before...
Yes, the small bucket is a gallon, I use half a gallon for each tomato plant, meaning 10 gallons total, two five gallon buckets worth. Since I lost three of my tomatoes, there is a little letf to go around to other plants. I'll mix another five gallons for various potted plants. Easy peasy.

It might not be the right time of year for growing many of the things you have started 4-5 weeks ago. Keep doing what you are doing and give the plants a weak water-soluble all-purpose fertilizer. Other than that, its just about the season and temperatures.

I'm guessing that Neptune's Harvest is mainly a seaweed solution with a bit of fish emulsion otherwise I'd expect the N to be much higher. I usually use a mix of seaweed and fish emulsion as a base fertilizer and just the seaweed solution when fruiting plants are starting to set. What is your opinion on adding micobes ,good root fungi and good nematodes to container plants,e tn we a have pretty a good and fairly lengthy growing season.all container grown due to the deer and rabbits( which we also harvest in season) food plot loaded with blooming clover...thats where all the bees are.kind of a ying / yang thing feed the wild life and bees no pollination on the veggies🤔
I recently bought a ph soil tester and was shocked to learn my potting soil is extremely acidic in the 3-4 ph range. I wonder if it’s from heavy rains here in central Florida. Can you tell me why that is? Thanks!
I was wondering how your organza bags worked on the tomatoes. My tomato blossoms are starting to set fruit, so I'm going to need to figure something out soon to keep the birds away.
That stuff can make most gardeners look good. I’ve relied on it even before I became an organic gardener. That and a handful of worm castings (optional because I have plenty) once a month at the base of each plant gives that boost they need this time of year in the gulf coast rain and heat.
I make my own fertilisers , I have a 220 litre barrels 3 of them , one for seaweed and fish. , one for veggie left over plants from peas zucchini tomatoes ect and another one for weeds, oh and one for stinging nettles smaller one I fertiliser weekly, plants love it and the soil, I don’t even think to much about how much or what I’m mixing there is a wonderful symbiosis of the garden No need to store bought items your garden gives most of it , just buy fresh fish and make a fertiliser , I’m lucky to live only 150km from the coast and collect seaweed once twice a year Farms local to use give away free manure from cows and horses too
@@ScottHead okk thanks. I just got sample of fish and seaweed fertilizer from Neptune harvest to try As it smells a lot can i use that in late evening so don’t disturb the neighbors with smell?
I add 1/2 inch of compost to all my beds before each season. I don't fertilize when I plant seeds but often use an organic slow release mixed into the hole when I plant out starts.
My Asparagus gets fertilized but the rest of the garden has to make do with Blood and bone and chook pellets when I do a minimal till. After that they get seaweed solution poured over them. Not too keen on nitrogen fertilizers. We don't do rain in winter so leaching isn't a problem. Never use chemical fertilizers I like the worms in the garden. Very interesting though.
I would like to know if you don’t use all your liquid mixture up after feeding your plants can you put the top on the bucket and leave it until next time, which would be in your case two weeks, or do I have to use all the mixed fertilizer up and not store it? Thanks

I only use the tomato and veg formular, so far I've not needed any other.
What a great channel - love what you do and how you explain things - just subbed (I’m in Arizona and just planted some starters - Cucumbers squash, watermelon m, cantaloupe boy it is so hot they are struggling so trying to work it all out and watched your video on the wilting plants and how that’s natural but sometimes it seems due to this crazy heat/sun ). Do you have constant rain we have no rain
Constant rain this past week and now its raining again.
Good morning ,. can I use fresh flower food packets in my veggie garden?
I’m not sure what’s in those packets so I can’t really say.
If it hadn't rained recently, would you have watered the plants FIRST and then added the Neptune's Harvest boost AFTER?
No I just water the plants with the fertilizer. Pre-watering would be good if it had been exceptionally dry though.
I just ordered the fertilizer..
Happy 4th! Great vid,i already use the neptunes although i never considered the fact its low dose.all my plants are in containers albeit they are large rectangular with a resevoir and a drain spout.hard rain pushes all the fertilizer down.your opinion on adding microbes, good fungi and beneficial nematodes( found a good amount of japanese beetle grubs in one container neem oiled it for now, waiting on the nematodes).thanx much.
Thanks!
No clue, too many variables. You can amend to bring the pH closer to neutral.
It's been raining so much in southeast Texas that it's been hard to fertilize
I have 5 gallon, 10 gallon and 20 gallon plants. Do i give them all the same amount of fertilizer
We have SOOO much frickin rain...I hope I can save my veggies...
Same here in Dallas TX.
I was wondering how your organza bags worked on the tomatoes. My tomato blossoms are starting to set fruit, so I'm going to need to figure something out soon to keep the birds away.
Works great! I've been using them on the cherry tomatoes but have not really used them on the larger ones yet, just too much work.
I think I have to do this to my potted tomatoes, they have stopped producing tomatoes
I do have some fish emulsion I will try that also
I wish that nuptunes harvest was a little cheaper lol BTW next level gardening has a discount code in all of his video descriptions
One gallon lasts me an entire season though so it all works out.
That stuff can make most gardeners look good. I’ve relied on it even before I became an organic gardener. That and a handful of worm castings (optional because I have plenty) once a month at the base of each plant gives that boost they need this time of year in the gulf coast rain and heat.
I make my own fertilisers , I have a 220 litre barrels 3 of them , one for seaweed and fish. , one for veggie left over plants from peas zucchini tomatoes ect and another one for weeds, oh and one for stinging nettles smaller one
I fertiliser weekly, plants love it and the soil, I don’t even think to much about how much or what I’m mixing there is a wonderful symbiosis of the garden
No need to store bought items your garden gives most of it , just buy fresh fish and make a fertiliser , I’m lucky to live only 150km from the coast and collect seaweed once twice a year
Farms local to use give away free manure from cows and horses too
Do you still use Alaska 5-1-1? Is there a HUGE difference in the 2?
Yes, I use it in the early part of growing when I want the foliage to develop.
Do you use Neptune rose and flower fertility along with tomatoes and veg fertilizer? I saw that both need to use to have good results.
No I just use the tomato formula.
@@ScottHead okk thanks.
I just got sample of fish and seaweed fertilizer from Neptune harvest to try
As it smells a lot can i use that in late evening so don’t disturb the neighbors with smell?
Do you fertilize when you plant seeds outdoors?
I add 1/2 inch of compost to all my beds before each season. I don't fertilize when I plant seeds but often use an organic slow release mixed into the hole when I plant out starts.
I have 3-3-5 (NPK) can I use it as much as you use yours?
Yeah, maybe even a little more.
Thanks
I prefer to use it all up, I'm sure it would keep OK though.
Use it up... it will likely be super stinky if you wait... it might ferment!
So like 4cups of the fertilizer solution per container?
Can compost tea be made from compost that is not completely done?
Yes, just let it steep a bit longer.
I've been using the Alaskan Fish Fertilizer and I love it! However...my dogs keep getting into the containers that I use it in. Do you find the same problem with Phoebe?
No it only stinks for a few hours so Phoebe doesn’t go for it unless it’s fresh
